yocousinvinny
Does this deserve a new topic? probably not but gotta LUV it. Will @The Gooch downvote it? 100% yes. https://www.oregonlive.com/nfl/2021/06/seattle-seahawks-jamal-adams-not-expected-to-participate-in-mandatory-minicamp-as-he-looks-to-sign-a-contract-extension.html Safety Jamal Adams has been a no-show during all of the team’s voluntary minicamps and Organized Team Activities (OTAs) during the past three weeks. Many of Seattle’s veteran players - including quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner - did participate during the final week of OTAs last week, but Adams was not among the reported 80 players who were on the field for drills and workouts. Adams isn’t expected to participate in on-field drills during the three-day minicamp because he’s looking to sign a long-term contract extension as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. Adams has said he wants to remain in Seattle and the Seahawks have said they want to re-sign him. “We want him to be here a long time for sure. He’s a great player,” Seattle general manager John Schneider told reporters in April. “We’re glad we made the trade to get him, and he’s going to be a very important part of our future.” Adams, 25, is expected to earn $9.86 million in 2021, the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. The strong safety is reportedly looking for a contract extension that will pay him at least $16-17 million annually and Adams could be looking for a contract that would make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL. That distinction currently belongs to Denver Broncos’ safety Justin Simmons, who is slated to earn a base salary of $15.1 million in 2022. What could be problematic for the Seahawks is Adams may be focusing on signing a new deal that is above the norm for a positional player. Adams’ agent will probably point out he’s more than just a safety. Adams may want edge rusher money after he posted 9.5 sacks in 2021, an all-time, single-season record for a defensive back. Adams’ sack total was tied for 11th in the NFL and was better than star edge rushers such as Chicago’s Khalil Mack (9.0) and Las Vegas’ Yannick Ngakoue, Tampa Bay’s Shaquil Barrett and Tennessee’s Bud DuPree (8.0) in 2021. Adams also spent plenty of on-field snaps lining up in non-safety positions, including on the defensive line, wide corner, slot cornerback and in the box during the 2020 season. Adams does possess leverage in the negotiations. The Seahawks gave up plenty to acquire Adams in a trade with the New York Jets last July. The Seahawks sent their first- and third-round picks in the 2021 NFL draft, and they also sent their first-round pick in the 2022 draft along with Bradley McDougald to the Jets in the deal. Having given up so much, the Seahawks are likely determined to keep Adams on the roster in a long-term deal. On the other hand, the Seahawks will probably balk at any deal that would make Adams the highest-paid defensive player on the team. There’s Wagner, who has been a first-team All-Pro pick five consecutive seasons, a Pro Bowl selection seven straight seasons and he is a future Hall of Fame selection. Wagner signed a three-year, $54 million extension averaging $18 million per year at the start of training camp in 2019. 1

Ahhh... I dig. Thanks for the clarification.

Maybe the biggest quote I came across this entire off-season about him. Hard to know for sure where Trevor Lawrence was coming from when he said that. "Win at all costs" encompasses every single method and action including cheating, any manner of dishonest action, criminal action, etc. Like taping your Super Bowl opponent's walk through, cutting the QB's microphone at a critical time, taking air out of the football, setting up cameras where they are not supposed to be, etc... Refusing to "win at all costs" does not mean he is not totally and completely dedicated and driven to perform and improve at all times. He is said to be a virtuous and moral individual. As such, he probably has a lore more in his personal architecture than "win at all costs".

Dunno. Since the Jets *almost* had the number one over all draft pick and probably would have drafted Lawrence, AND they selected Wilson right after Lawrence... In the years to come, the Jets and Wilson will be inescapably part of the Trevor Lawrence discourse.

Listen to any ESPN or NFL Network host when they discuss Trevor Lawrence and or Zach Wilson. Insecurity has nothing to do with what is driving those discussions.

I remember a pretty awful pop-culture movie with Tom Cruise called "Days Of Thunder". Cruise pays a noobie NASCAR driver. He impresses a few people by making a fast lap on an empty track. His rival in the movie compliments him and says... "Now go and get your own car and we'll see how you do in a crowd". Lets see how Wilson and Lawrence "do in a crowd"
