Never heard of Matt Cole.

The Jets have claimed WR Matt Cole.

Cole (5-10, 197) was waived by the 49ers May 4. He first signed with the Dolphins April 29, 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of McKendree and was waived during final roster cuts. He was signed to Miami's practice squad the next day and San Francisco signed him to the active roster Dec. 24. He made his NFL debut in the 2020 season finale against the Seahawks and made two special teams tackles.

In college, Cole was the Great Lakes Valley Special Teams Player of the Year as a senior in 2019 and was first-team All-GLVC. He also had averaged 23 kick returns, 625 yards (27.2 avg) and 1 touchdown as well as eight punt returns for 208 yards (26.0 avg).

Of all on the list I believe that Edoga has no chance making the team ( barring a rash of o line injuries) and Cashman has  maybe a ten percent chance. The other guys all have a chance to make it on the squad

Well if he's a quality specials guy that could get him on. We actually have some depth at WR now but the back of the roster guys will need to be special teamers.

Berrios will make the team.

Mims honestly might be left off at this point if he doesnt pick it up. Doubtful, but when these types of news leaks start happening its usually a sign.

I think Matt Cole has a legit chance to stick as the final WR. He is a real threat to Berrios in particular.

He was a great special teams player in college as a kick and punt returner and gunner, and he was a very good WR too. That type of versatility is invaluable when you are trying to stick as a bottom of the roster player.

Plus, he came from the 49ers so the coaches know him and probably lobbied for him to be claimed from waivers.

Nice to see the Jets having a different kind of talent problem. I really hope we sign Moses and bid farewell to Edoga. He's has plenty of time to flash. Clark remains an enigma, just haven't seen enough to form an opinion.

Our bubble boys on defense better hope nobody interesting gets cut loose by another team. The practice squad is going to have some talented guys.

How many QBs are you saving spots for? Could maybe keep another defender if we only carry 2 with the 3rd on the PS.

Definitely possible. I hadn't heard of Cole but as I said in another post special teams versatility definitely can be a difference maker for back half of the roster guys.

I'm assuming Berrios will make it mainly because he's been getting first team reps in practice and seems to have a connection with Wilson but that's mainly based on OTA/minicamp reports. It's possible once everyone is healthy and practicing there's less of a role for him.

Versatile and fast WR, kickoffs, punt returner, special teams.

Not Berrios I hope.

We should be aiming much MUCH higher than the Braxton Berrios' of the world at WR.

Davis

Mims

Cole

Crowder

Moore

That's 5 guys ahead of Berrios.

I'm hoping we have at least one guy to take that 6th spot who is more than just a spot-filling JAG like Berrios is.

Braxton Berrios definitely makes the team because he plays special teams and because he's built an excellent rapport with Zach. Trevon Wesco because I'm HOPING the Jets actually have a FB this season. Cam Clarke because Cam is a small school talent that JD drafted and was injured all season. He should be healthy going into training camp. Nate Shepard because he's part of Ulbrich's very sacred DL rotation. Blake Cashman because despite his injuries, when he's healthy he's a starting caliber linebacker. Isaiha Dunn because the CB room SUCKS and an UDFA can easily make the team....

Interesting.  There were only 2 I hadn't heard of yet:  Cole and Blair.

I spend too much time here....

I consciously avoid wasting neurons on the horde of hyped less-than-JAGs every year that end up not making the team. Not judging though. Everyone can fan how they want.

I'm surprised so few voted for Daniel Brown.  He might not make it, but his blocking ability and special teams contributions give him a lot better shot than others on the list - in my opinion, of course.  Just funny how people see things so differently

De-emphasis of the TE position in general is the reason for me.  We don't need to be carrying 4 TE's on this roster, we just don't.  Not when we're relatively deep at WR and also need to carry a FB.

If we carry 3 and Brown still makes it, great.  Which would of course come at the expense of either Herndon, Griffin or Kroft.  Since I believe those 3 make it (unless of course we add a TE like Hurst or something, in which case replace Griffin or Kroft with Hurst/alternative new guy), Brown is the odd man out for me.  Practice Squad, perhaps?

And they both came from the Niners, which is why people probably are giving them a better chance to stick.

TE will be interesting.  Some think they want great TEs because of how much use Kittle got.  I think others see it as maybe using a WR there the way Gailey used Enunwa.  I wonder what they will do.  I hope they just keep the best players and make it work, but we don't get that much around here.

IMO Brown has only a small chance of making the team because of Wesco.  He will be playing FB, but taking a roster spot from a TE.  They can also line Wesco up as a TE.  He is an excellent in line blocker.

If Moses is signed, and I still think it's going to happen, Fant becomes the swing T, and the blocking TE.  Just my opinion.

I would think if the Jets sign Moses, McDermott would be gone (over Edoga).
