What does JD care? He works for a business. That means the job includes being responsible with the finances and not giving away money if that can be avoided.

Exactly and it works both ways because if Zach was confident in his own potential and his own ability of not becoming a Josh Rosen type of QB bust?

He would've signed his guarantee $35.2 million dollar contract along time ago and wouldn't give two craps about an offset language (which only applies if he stinks).

So imo Zach Wilson is hiding something and/or fearful of something for refusing to sign over something so petty.

And I'm proud of Joe Douglas. He's got every Rookie from last year signed and now every Rookie of 2021 signed outside of "Zach Wilson" and I'm sorry but Joe Douglas isn't in the business of being punked by some kid rookie QB.

For Zach Wilson not to sign a guaranteed $35.2 million dollar contract before ever playing an NFL game? It's horse crap and It's bush league.

Or he has a agent that’s handing it. Could go either way honestly.

This is the only way to look at it! You pick 2 and worry about year 4 and offset language or bonus payout timeframe for a QB!?! The negative implications that doing this so early in JD’s career can have an impact in future drafts.

Look at San Diego, not just the Eli situation but they always have extended holdouts over rookie contracts.

1.) Joe Douglas got every single Rookie signed during year #1 of 2020 last season.

2.) Joe Douglas has every single Rookie signed during year #2 of 2021 (outside of Zach Wilson).

3.) 1 spoiled brat of an ungrateful kid who's unsigned; in compared to 18 grateful and thankful Rookies signed over the past two drafts by Joe Douglas.

4.) 18-1.

5.) So what are you talking about man?

Kid’s agent is ironing things out with Joe Douglas. Kid is in California working with his QB coach. That bastard!

His QB coach? Um.

He needs to be working with his teammates and his real coaches come Wednesday for training camp (without being late).

He needs to sign his guaranteed $35.2 million dollar contract like any thankful kid from poverty would do within a split second while being grateful at the same time.

Hello TheWaterBoy (from TGG) all 3/4 of you're JN posts are quotes of mine. You're the same person who created the username "DWC is Stupid" before being BANNED and I know 100% you're TheWaterBoy from the Gang GREEN because he's the only one who called me an "OPUS" 24/7.

Post 1 "You’re a master in the art of bad posting, but this might be your opus"

Yes. Agents handle business and the players practice. He’ll show up once his agent decides it’s a fair deal. Then Zach will show up and practice with the team. Nothing else happening here.

Hope you're right man my biggest fear is him returning back to school if he doesn't get his way for another season before declaring for the draft again I can't help but fear the worst SOJ but I hope you're right my dude.

And @The Crusher please CRUSH @Green Ghost for me he's the same person from TGG (a place I absolutely hate) who's following me to JN in order to "attack me" and he's the same prick who created the username "DWC is an Idiot' (TheWaterBoy is his TGG username lol). I don't ask for help like this often but I'm asking for it with this guy because Training Camp is right around the corner and I rather not have this guy bothering me. Thnx in advance Crusher.

Uhhh, ok. But we really don’t call other posters out on the board.  Certainly kind of ironic.

(wish it was though, it was very good.)

Is the definition of calling out (attacking) another longtime poster such as myself so sorry for asking for a little help around here with him specifically and maybe if he didn't join JN just in order to troll me I wouldn't feel like this have a good night big fella.

No bruh.

About Revis you clearly stated...

"he held out and it doesn't matter why he held out because he held out".

And those were your words not mine.

Well guess what? Once Zach Wilson doesn't report to training camp tomorrow?

"He held out and it doesn't matter why he held out because he held out".

And I can give two flying pigs how you try and "spin it" because I much rather have supported a future HOF All-Time great coverage CB who was demanding more $ than an unproven Rookie who's refusing to sign a GUARANTEED $35.2 million dollar contract!

And you want me to put you on ignore? When I rarely go out of my way to quote you however you seem to quote my every thought?

Ok let's make an ignore deal.

You never quote me again and I'll never quote you again and we'll both make JN a better community because let's be honest here @Jet Nut you don't really care for me and I don't really care for you (as a poster, not a person fyi).

Deal man?

Can you go an entire training camp and 2021-2022 season without quoting "DWCs" every thought?

Because I'll gladly love to never have another Football interaction with you (ever again).

deal or no deal?

Someone needs to explain to you the difference between negotiating a deal and turning your back on a deal.

Because apparently thats beyond your understanding.
Tell you what stop quoting me, responding to me and tagging me.  How about you stop instead of acting the baby and telling me to not quote you.

Once he declared for the draft and signed with an agent he can’t go back to school. It’ll get ironed out.

Why can't you just agree to not quote me anymore and I'll do the same?

A JETS season of not harping all over my every thought is too impossible and not fun for you or something?

The Jets drafted Zach because they think their getting an elite QB on a rookie deal.  A huge bargain.  If they're right the should get rid of the offset language.  If they're wrong they should be fired before Zach is cut.

Agreed.  I’ve said it before, if Zach busts and this offset stuff comes into play, then the Jets have MUCH bigger problems than if Zach is double dipping for a couple million dollars somewhere else.

Unless they feel he looked lost and bad during mini camp and we just didn’t get that info there’s no reason not to give him his full deal with no offsets. Either way, this is already bad and headed to really bad.

Saleh comment "will lift you" sounds like complete BS when management is hedging their bets on commiting to his full rookie deal which is a bargain for the team to begin with.

I'm all for cutting guys who don't produce and not overpaying for the players Mac brought in.  This is Douglas and Saleh's QB picked at No. 2.  This is a pick that could have brought a haul of pics.  There committed to him for at least 3 years.  This looks like a complete cheap out by the Jets on a guy they completely committed to.  It's a bad look.

Already off to a bad start. How can Saleh lift anyone if ownership isn’t fully committed? This predates Douglas so he gets a pass.

The Johnsons could pull this BS with Darnold as his family didn’t come from money and he wasn’t as highly touted as a prospect. Wilson can afford to give the Jets the finger and I’m sure he already has Steve Young in his family’s ear telling them “I told you so.”

It just seems down right un-American to get paid not to play for one team while you're being paid to play for another. Of course, this happens with coaches all the time. For example, I believe we were paying half of Bowles salary to be DC for Tampa 2018-19, which was a compromise between all parties. But that doesn't impact salary cap so who cares.

Offset language can also lead to a moral hazard situation by removing some incentive for a player to maximize his next contract (or to play at all). I'm surprised Belichick doesn't sign FAs with offset language at league minimum ("Hey, you're going to get paid either way, what do you care if it comes from us of from your former team? Come get a ring.")

It seems unamerican to have a Monopoly that can restrict workers to where they can play through a draft system and than slot their contracts.

The NFL is socialism for the owners.  Offset langauge, pushing out payments to get leverage in a dispute and the ability to cut players is about mitigating risk for owners who share revenue.

This isn't about good old capitalism.  This is about protecting the owners by giving them leverage.  The entire process of defered bonuses and offset langauge is to mitigate the risk of the owners at the expense of the wage earners.

FWIW, Trevor did not get offset language in his contract.  So tell me why the Jets should just dole it out because some fans have ants in their pants?  One could just as easily argue that Zach and/or his agents are being unreasonable.  Seriously, not everything points in a straight line to being the fault of the Johnson brothers.

Quote

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is signed, sealed and waiting to deliver.

The No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2021 NFL draft signed a rookie contract on Monday for $36.8 million, which includes $24.1 million in guaranteed money and the usual fifth-year option.

The Jaguars didn’t release the financial terms of the deal but ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing sources, disclosed the specifics, which are standard for NFL rookies given Lawrence’s draft standing.

The contract includes no offset language and has automatic roster bonuses from 2022-24, which are guaranteed even if Lawrence is on the active/non-football injury list.

It’s so futile.  You are going to eat dead money regardless of offset language.  The Jets are absorbing over $5M in dead money for Sam this year.  The pissing match is tedious, especially when it’s over something that is so inconsequential.

Why would you draft a player second overall if you didn’t have confidence he’s finish out his deal?
