Jets call Chicago about Foles

Recommended Posts

Rob Calabrese has only been a QB coach in college for 1-2 years, never in the NFL. I know it’s too soon for discussion and don’t want to get this thread locked or myself banned but Greg Knapp was a big a part of the Jets plans and key to Wilson’s development.

Training camp is opening. I don’t think we need to avoid talking about Knapp’s loss and its effect on the team. There’s no doubt he was a big part of their plans. He was the most experienced coach on the roster was was going to be a major sounding board for LaFluer. I don’t see them bringing anyone in, I think it’ll be a rally the troops/all hands on deck kinda thing. The assistants on the offensive side of the ball are all gonna have to pick it up some slack, but LaFluer’s job got a lot harder. He’ll probably lean on the WR and QB coaches a bit, but he’s the passing game specialist now.

If Joe Douglas expresses any interest, it’ll be because the Bears are offering draft pick compensation along with Foles to eat his very stupid contract. Something like the Jets sending a sixth, and getting back Foles and a fourth.

Foles will always have that Super Bowl, but otherwise he really hasn’t been very good. The Bears didn’t add two QBs to put ahead of him on their depth chart this offseason because they believe he’s a viable option. Also think JD would just prefer to roll with Morgan and/or White.

Two things.

100% agree. Bears have to give up a decent pick to rid themselves of Foles and his contract.

I actually wouldn't mind them sticking with Morgan as the backup. But then of course they'll need some coaching help.  Going to throwing this out there with the sad passing of Coach Knapp.?  What's Jeff Garcia up to these days? I remember reading that he was interested in coaching, and he always struck me as being extremely well versed in the WCO.  Bringing in a coach this late in the offseason is unlikely, but they may not have a choice.

What amazes me is how everyone is so sure Morgan is so bad without ever seeing him throw one pass in live action. How about we give him a least a chance to show us just how good or bad he is, before throwing him under the bus.

Truth is, none of us on this site have any idea how he has looked and if he can be an NFL-caliber back-up.  I sure hope that the reason we don't have and experienced back up is because he has shown the coaching staff enough for them to believe he can handle the role.  At lease we will all get a chance to get a look at him and judge for ourselves in coming weeks.

I believe the call took place, but went something like this.

JD:  Ryan, how ya doing?  I'm just calling to see how available Foles is

Pace:  He's avaiable for the right price.

JD:  Is the right price a 6th, and you eat half his contract?

Pace: No

JD:  OK then, good talking to you, give me a call if it becomes the right price.

The Bears would lose cap space by trading him, not gain. They're not going to give him away. It's better to keep him at this point

Yes I know. But trading him relieves them of actually having to pay him. They're paying both Dalton and Fields decent money.

Mike White or Joe Flacco

Pick your JD poison.

Not getting it, what do you know about White, I thought all things considered given being thrown into a game coached by Belichick I was expecting a whole lot worse.

I get the need to just pile on but

No, what I like is that he was let go for the practice squads means he sucked big time, couldn't possibly be that White just outplayed him.  But then you'd have to credit the team for White and its so much more fun to trash them over imagined problems of Morgan.

Love the internet
