Dcat
On 8/4/2021 at 4:26 PM, SAR I said: I have something better than predictions this season; I have expectations. The Worst Head Coach in The NFL is gone. The Lowest Rated QB in The NFL is gone. And, most importantly, The Worst GM in The NFL has been gone for 3 years. It's time for some winning. Winning. When the Jets win the 4 winnable games in the first half of the season, I expect them to be 4-4. They have 3 home games, 1 neutral field game, a bye week, and we are facing a set of the weakest quarterbacks in the NFL. There are upsides too. I expect Belichick to sweep our rookie quarterback, but Cam Newton crumbles under pressure and perhaps Saleh can bring it. I expect the playoff Colts to beat us as the road team on a Thursday night, but without Carson Wentz a eked out win becomes a possibility. 4-4 is the expectation. 5-3 would impress me. SAR I always forgetting that we are starting a raw rookie. Look back thru history of NFL at the % of times that leads to a winning record. And that's fact. I want to see growth and development as much as, if not more than wins for his rookie season. Everyone going against the reality of rookie QB performances in the NFL historically is setting up for probable disappointment..., which almost always leads to stupid finger pointing and blaming. We are starting a ROOKIE QB. Adjust your expectations in line with the reality of NFL history. If we buck the trend, then great! Lets see the QB develop, learn and of course win some with the game on his shoulders. If we go 7-10, 6-11 but I see what I want to see, I'll be just fine. Fully expect an under .500 record to bring out the worst in some. That's the nature of this message board. Everyone who expects all this to happen in an instant *poof* is nuts. 2
Joe W. Namath
I dont think many Jet fans understand how good this defense is. Just think up the middle. We have Quinnen, Mosely and maye. Thats as strong a middle then any team in the league on all 3 levels. our D line is going to get pressure and be dominant against the run. Mosely is going to eat up ball carries like pacman. Bryce hall is a lockdown corner, Guidry is a stud in the slot and and a young pup will emerge to be a solid cb2. This is a top 10 D and the reason why we are winning 10 games this year. This defense is going to be sick!

This doesnt hold much weight anymore. QBs are coming into the league and dominating nowadays. baker mayfield just set the rookie td record a few years ago and justin herbert just smashed it last year. This isnt the 1980s anymore where a qb needs years to develop. These kids coming out now have had private qb coaches since they were 5 years old. Zach is a heck of a lot farther along then Sanchez was in 09 and we won 9 games that year. This is a 10-7 football team with the schedule we have. Dont be afraid to say it. 1

I view this Jets team as I did the 2009 squad. No, not as talented, of course. But I think we're going to have a good running game and short passing game (Shanahan) so Zach won't be asked to do too much. At first glance, the Saleh defense will have a DL pass rush and the LB's can help cover for the DB's deficiencies. We only face 5 dominant D's and we only play 2 QB's who are above NFL average. This is a true 4th place schedule and we match up against the two weakest divisions (AFC South, NFC South) too. I see 10 winnable games of which I expect Saleh to win 8. And I see the Bucs and Bills dumping the last two games having playoffs berths locked. It's not too far fetched to think we are set up like '09, we could be sitting with 7 wins and allowed to get into the playoffs with 2 freebie wins in Weeks 17 and 18. SAR I I actually completely agree. Some people here need to show some more ambition. I felt last going into last season that we were the worst team in the league so I'm not just blindly optimistic. This team should be competing. There's some good talent on this roster now. I'm not demanding a win total but I definitely am demanding clear progress from the awful teams we've seen in the last few years. They need to be better. I don't want a top 5 pick next year unless Seattle implode.

Just look at the Chargers last season. Their rookie QB threw for 31 TDs and 10 INTs. Arguably the most impressive rookie performance by a QB in NFL history. Final record: 7-9. Even if Wilson is the goods right out of the gates, we were in position to draft him for a reason. This was a 2-14 team last season. We've made dramatic improvements to every aspect of the roster, but we didn't go from 2-14 to contender. More likely we made about a 5-6 win improvement at best. 2022 is when we'll contend if Wilson is the real deal.

Not exactly a repeatable performance. And we all need to hope 2021 Wilson is much better than 2009 Mark Sanchez. And of course that he's a much better QB for his career than Sanchez was.
