Olympic Medals Tracker - what a crock

The rest of the world, (all of it), considers the medals table to be Gold medals, if tied then Silver medals and those are tied then Bronze.

Only in the USA do they use the total medals won to determine the "table".  In other words a bronze is worth the same as a silver and a gold.

This is true on all of the US media sites and newspapers etc.  But it makes us look stupid because a bronze is not "worth" the same as a silver or a gold,

Do they think the American public simply cannot handle the idea that USA is 2nd?

Not a wrestling fan here but in terms of medal tables I would be in favor of just one medal per sport as opposed to some sports having a gazillion events each with their own medals like Swimming or Gymnastics.

What a crock?

What were you saying?

USA 2020-2021 = Most ? GOLD Medals. ?

USA 2020-2021 = Most overall Medals.

The United States has won the most overall medals for seven consecutive Olympic games. And only in 2008 did China win the most gold medals in 2008 when Beijing hosted the Summer Olympics.

6/7 Olympics = most Gold Medals.

7/7 Olympics = Most overall Medals.

28 years of USA AMERICAN DOMINANCE.

"WHAT A CROCK".

The US overtook China in Gold medals on the last day.

The US did not win the most golds in previous Olympics.

The US media invented the "total medals" count table as a way of ensuring the US would be in the top spot even if the medal table in every other country on the planet measured positions the traditional way.  Most golds, if tied then most silvers and if tied there then most bronzes.

Counting the "totals medals" way requires you to believe that a gold medal is worth the same as a silver medal or a bronze medal.  Is that what you believe DWC?

The invention of this table in an obvious attempt to cater to a stupid public and is therefore a crock.  Not to mention an embarrassment.

In Britain they could come up with a new kind of medal table.  Most gold medals per capita.  That idea would have the virtue at least of being a fair way to measure things.

By that measure Great Britain for example had 0.333 Gold medals per Million people whereas the US "only" had 0.117 gold medals per million people almost three times as many.

If the UK press decided to calculate the medals table that way when nobody else on the planet did so then they would be the same kind of laughing stock that the US media and public are today.

6 of the previous 7 Olympics USA = most Gold Medals.

7 of the previous 7 Olympics USA = Most overall Medals (Gold/Silver/Bronze combined) .

That's 28 years of USA AMERICAN DOMINANCE my dude.

You miss the point,  The *new* total medals table only got invented when the US was in danger of not winning the traditional medals table.  But by all means continue to believe that a silver is worth the same as a gold or a bronze.
