Daniel Jones won't suit up for the New York Giants in Saturday's preseason opener, Michael Baca of NFL.com reports.

The Giants starting quarterback won't play versus the New York Jets, head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Thursday.

Mike Glennon, who signed with the Giants this offseason to backup Jones, will get the start. Clayton Thorson, the only other QB on the Giants' current roster, will finish out the preseason contest.

Judge said the plan is to treat the third preseason contest as a traditional game in order to get the starters together for an extended period of time, which all but guarantees Jones will play versus the New England Patriots in the preseason finale on Sunday, Aug. 29.

Entering a crucial Year 3, Jones has compiled an 8-18 record as the Giants starter, a role he took over midway through his rookie season. After an injury-laden 2020, Jones failed to match nearly every major statistical category he posted as a rookie with the same amount of games played in Year 2. Jones, the No. 6 overall pick in 2019, will feel the pressure in New York if there's no vast improvement shown in 2021.

They're expecting a Josh Allen-like jump from Jones this season. I don't see that happening

Not enough physical gifts there to make up for anything he mentally lacks. QB’s like Jones have to rely on the football IQ aspect of their game when you can’t bail yourself out of plays with your arm talent(he has a very average arm) or his legs & I just don’t see him becoming good enough between the ears this soon to pull it off. Was talking about this with a few buddies earlier, he’d have to at least match his rookie 24-12 numbers to get a 4th year if you ask me. He’s playing for his 5th year option that will still not likely get him a lucrative extension at the end of the day. Giants will be drafting high for a QB again by 2023.

wow thats interesting. i would think that with the extra game (17) this year they would still give the starters all off on the last week.

curious to see what Saleh does in the last week.

hey maybe this is the new norm. no more sitting the starters the last preseason week.

Who cares?

He stinks anyway.

He let a trash ass 0x Pro Bowler and a 0x All-Pro (who we received two 7th round draft picks for) take his cookies and then take them to the house...

Daniel Jones let an absolute scrub with no pass rushing ability whatsoever physically embarrass him...

So who cares if he's playing or not?
