Jets trade for Shaq Lawson

Hopefully he is a decent run defender because while everyone is focused on edge pressure, our run defense hasnt looked great and we need players who can do both.

Im as hopeful as any of us that Huff and Hamilcar can surprise as young speed rushers but neither of them is really ready for a 3 down role in this system, so having Lawson be able to rotate in with JFM and Blair at DE on early downs will be very helpful and we can rotate the young speed rushers in on passing downs.

Fans:  "Joe Douglas sucks!  He paid big for an injury prone Lawson to be our DE, and he doesn't even play one game."

JD:  "What are you talking about, Lawson is playing DE right now."

I've been excited all Spring to see Lawson rushing the passer!

Wait a minute!

He is known for being good against the run.

This is gonna get confusing.

We already had 2 Johnsons (Josh & Ty), 3 Davis's (Jarrad, Corey and Ashtyn), 2 MIchael Carters, 2 Moore's (ELijah and David), 2 Phillips (Kyle and Delshawn) and now two Lawsons.

And 2 Smith's- Vyncint and Jeff

There is more to the position than sacks, but it’s interesting to note that Carl and Shaq have the same amount of career sacks, but Carl got there in 13 fewer games.

Carl’s sacks per game is .39

Shaqs sacks per game is .32

Carl has a better win % but I’m a little surprised the difference wasn’t greater to be honest

Fk PFF dude.

Look at the REAL numbers.

Shaq Lawson:

141.5 QB Sacks/Hurries/Knockdowns/Hits/Pressures (combined).

Vs.

Carl Lawson

187.5 QB Sacks/Hurries/Knockdowns/Hits/Pressures (combined).

PFF's ranking system is comple trash.

JD just got ourselves an exciting pass rushers who's much better against the run than Carl too.

That's the bottom line.  Good statzzz dude!

If Shaq is 75% the player that Carl would have been this is a great move to keep the Jets at least respectable on the outside.

That's almost the perfect financial setup for a team like the Jets.  The Cap space is there for him right now.... unlike with some other teams.  Two weeks before the start of the season what could have been done better than getting a solid, experience capable player at a premiere position that is also a need?  The Jets can cut bait next year if they want and.... they may not want.

I’ll take 6.

Same here.  Impact two plays per game on something like 3rd down by getting hurries, pressures, etc. and we're good.  He won't get double-teamed with guys like Quinnen and Rankins inside.

If Shaq helps force a couple punts per game then that's all we could ask for.

The pressures and QB hits are MUCH higher for Carl.  There's a huge difference between those two when it comes to pass rush

Price is perfect and it makes the team at least a smidge better. Especially if offense can score points.

This trade is an amazing value. He is a decent starter being paid vet minimum.

He is best against the run. Ideally he is a 2 down player.

He struggles pass rushing. Most of his sacks are coverage sacks or effort sacks.

That being said, he is not a low risk, high reward player. He is a low risk, medium reward player.

It's also troubling that he is on his 4th team in 3 years. He also had trouble getting snaps in Buffalo.

If you are expecting Shaq to be a good pass rusher, you will be very disappointed. Most of his sacks were coverage sacks.

QB hits and QB pressures tell more of the story. Carl Lawson is a MUCH MUCH better pass rusher than Shaq Lawson and it's not close.  I do think it's a solid addition but if anybody thinks he'll be as productive as Carl Lawson they need their head examined. And if anybody agrees with some stooge on this site who has zero football knowledge you need to be committed.

Shaq will be a part of a rotation with the other young Edge Rushers. He's not going to be an every down starter. Good depth piece added that will keep guys fresh.

You couldn't atleast qoute the guy we all know you're mentioning? Don't tell me we're taking after #33 we traded with indirect forum messages. Pretty weak

So you’re telling me we got our 2nd coming of the great, but unheralded, Anthony Pleasant.
