I suppose if a team with playoff hopes was looking at a situation where they had nothing at one tackle position, they might be desperate enough to do something like that. What would it take? IMO, given the risk to Wilson's development, it would either have to be a starting Edge rusher or CB (which on our team doesn't mean that much) or a 1st round pick, along with a replacement OT. I can't see either of those happening. Fant has Waaaaay more value to us as a swing tackle/depth in this specific scheme that capitalizes on his athleticism than any draft pick could in possibly keeping Wilson upright this year. NO WAY you trade Fant considering the dearth of quality veteran OL available at this stage before the season. For the sake of Wilson’s development, Fant has more exponential value than any player or draft pick that can reasonably be had at this point.

I like him and he has looked better than Dunn, but it was always going to be tough for him to beat out guys like Pinnock and Echols for a spot. He has to play outside and there are a lot of guys competing there. Would have liked to see what he could so at Safety.

Popular Post clayton163v
Too bad for Lamar Jackson. I think he had two problems to overcome only one of his making. The Jets starting corners - Hall and Austin - are big press corners. Just like him. You need tutti fruity, not a giant vat of vanilla. And that is not his fault. However, I did notice that he really does not tackle well in space. He has good discipline, puts himself in position and is willing to stick his face in there. But he has trouble with short area quickness and he whiffs. I note that this is also true of Pinnock. MC2 and Echols always get their guy on the ground. So does Hall. Austin tries to kill him. I am not sure what I would say to him were I the coach. He does keep it within the rules. I think that is why we cut Jackson. Not his other attributes. Nevertheless, I expect the Jets to bring him back since he is good insurance if we lose Hall or Austin and need to bring in a big corner who knows the system. He also might get picked up. He is a big press corner for zone teams with starting experience. I am not surprised by the Cager cut. I never saw him stand out on special teams and that is the only ticket to the roster when you are a reserve WR. It is one of the reasons he is running behind the Smiths both of whom are USEFUL special teamers and tough cuts. @mrcoops I too would like to see the Jets pick up Menet. He is a good fit for a zone scheme and I am not impressed with either Feeney or Levin at backup center. 4
section314
I think the play the other night when the defender blew right through him and “stole” that interception sealed his fate. When you are on the bubble, you don’t want something like that to be one of the last thing in the coaching staff’s mind.

Cards are fairly deep on the Oline, but might be hoping to get him back on the PS. I'd prefer Menet over Levin for sure, and also over Feeney - though there's probably very little chance of the Jets moving on from Feeney after they gave him a $3M guarantee.

Bungaman
I'm going out on a limb with a saw ... I think at RB, Adams stays and Perrine gets cut/IR'd. At QB, Johnson stays and either White or The Captain walk the plank. Aboushy on the OL gets cut/injury settlement. Not that much of a surprise. Feeney gets a bus ticket as well. Yeboah stays and one of the other TE's goes - Griffin, Brown or even Herndon - maybe he can get traded for a late rounder. Marshall and Hamilcar get cut and hopefully get to the PS, Smart makes the 53, and Zuninga gets a bus ticket. I can't decide if Valoaga or Shepard (or both) get the axe. Montgomery is the next WR to go. Too much confusion at the CB position for me to conjecture - other than Dunne going to the PS. My 2 cents. 1 1

johnnysd
Man these are the two worst days of the football season for me. I tend to get attached to certain players and hate seeing them get cut, plus the NFL dream ends for some many tomorrow. I don't like the way that some teams including us cut players as well where draft position overrides actual play. As an example Adams should definitely make it over Perrine but he is unlikely to. Yeboah should make it over Herndon even if it is a redshirt year but that likely wont happen either. I hope Cager makes it to the PS I think he could be a decent player. 1

But when you look at these players at their positions, they are at the very bottom of the barrel. I'm not at all surprised by the cuts if the Jets were looking to trim down CB and WR. We'll see other positions start to get trimmed down soon enough. It could be a favor to them so that other teams they may latch on with are aware they're available before they make their own cuts tomorrow.
