A solid depth addition with some upside, I think. Draft profiles identified him as a good fit in a zone-blocking scheme due to his mobility.

Pierschbacher plays with good initial quickness and is likely to be targeted by teams looking for move-oriented run blockers. He might lack the mass and power teams would like to see from him as a guard, but he's close to pro ready from an experience and technique standpoint and could find early playing time as an average starting center within the first two years.

He recorded the most career starts of any position player in Alabama history.

Pierschbacher made history this collegiate postseason after tying the record for most career starts by any Alabama player after the 2019 College Football National Championship game on January 7, totaling 57.

J.K. Scott was the only other member of the Crimson Tide to play as many games, leaving the Tide in 2018 to play for the Green Bay Packers. Scott was a punter, making Pierschbacher the only position player to ever play as many games.

"[Scott's] a punter, so technically I feel like I can claim it," Pierschbacher said. "But that's very cool. It's just been a crazy ride."

Four of those starts came in the College Football Playoff National Championship, also a record for any player.

He's a versatile lineman who played multiple positions.

During his collegiate tenure, Pierschbacher blocked for a total of 31 100-yard rushers in his career at multiple positions. He started 42 games at left guard from 2015-2017 before moving to center prior to the 2018 season.

The transition went exceptionally well, since he went on to become an All-American and finished as a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, given annually to the nation's top center.

He even played a brief stint at right guard at the beginning of the Tide's 2016 season.

I never get why guys who spent the last few years on practice squads and are ultimately cut get such effusive praise.   I hope he works out.  But what did the other teams miss, if anything?   Or, are we that bad that a player with his resume is somehow better than what we have?

Sometimes with OL its a matter of getting in the right system or maybe improving in the weight room. We cut Dakota Dozier, Oday Aboushi, and Matt Slauson who all went on to have different degrees of success as starters.

Here is his review from Ourlads back in 2019.  He needed to get stronger but can backup at all three spots.  After we cut Levin, we needed a fallback option at center and this is it.  He is very experienced as a true four year starter at an elite school.  Before you scoff at a mere 4th round grade, remember that starters inside frequently come from rounds 3-5.  You never know what a guy can do once he is given snaps in the game.

Started 42 games at left guard for the Tide before moving over to center in the spring of 2018. A disciplined player who rarely draws a penalty to hurt his team. Good eyes and awareness to pick up inside twist stunts. Plays with hand strength and violence. Runs his feet on choke blocks. Works to anchor down a bull rush. Bends his knees and keeps his hands high in pass protection. Plays with good technique and body control. Versatile enough to play all three inside positions. Quick enough to snap and pull to the perimeter. The All SEC first-team lineman can adjust on the run. Demonstrates good depth and approach on pulls to kick out and log perimeter support. Experienced in both shotgun and a conventional snap. Needs to get stronger to anchor the inside push of 325-pound plus nose tackles. OSR:37/39. Fourth/fifth round. (A- 32 1/8, H-10, BP-20, 10-1.83).

We didn't cut Matt Slauson.   He left as a FA after a down year in 2012, replaced with Winters and Colon.  Dozier also was not cut.  His contract expired.  In fact, he was actually signed to an additional yeat in 2018 and they let him walk in 2019.  Aboushi was cut after his substance abuse suspension.

Your point would still be valid with these guys, as they all left with staff changes.  Slauson with a change in OC from Sparano to Mornhinweg and as Idzik took over for Tannenbaum drafting Winters, Aboushi and Campbell.  Dozier in 2019 when Gase took over and Aboushi as Maccagnan and Bowles took over in 2015.
