Popular Post Doggin94it
1) Zach Wilson. Yes, really. The kid was under duress all day and getting his first reps against a starting NFL caliber defense on his coordinator's first ever time calling a real game - and the result was pretty awful in the first half: 6/16 84 Yards, 0TD, 1INT (37.5%, 5.25 YPA). Then he came back in the second half and put up this line: 16/21, 174, 2TD, 0INT (76%, 8.28 YPA). And it wasn't because the Panthers had the game in hand and backed off the defensive pressure, either; they sacked Zach three times in each half, and our running game was atrocious throughout. Wilson's full-game stat line wasn't pretty, because that first half was so bad - and perhaps that's the QB he'll end up being. But if "second half Zach" was what happens after he and Lafleur adjusted to live bullets, and we get that guy the rest of the way ... watch out. And yes, this is cherry-picking. But it's reasonable cherry-picking given the context, and we'll know more about how real that is soon. Plus, he did some other things that give me hope: never looked rattled, showcased his escapability, kept his eyes downfield. I'm encouraged 2) Aggressiveness on 4th Down. The Jets went for it twice on 4th down, both times in situations where previous regimes would have punted: 4th and 1 at the 42 in a 3-0 game ("pin em deep, play field position, it's close and we've held them, no need to be so aggressive right now") and 4th and 8 from our own 25 with 4 minutes left, down 2 scores ("not a lot of plays for 4th and 8, we don't make it the game is over, punt, get a stop, and go score"). Both were the right call (in the long run, you'll convert more 4th & 1s than you lose, and a punt in the game-end situation is a give-up) and bode well for the team's future. 3) Second half adjustments. Whatever the coaching staff did at halftime, it worked; the D tightened up and the offense started moving the ball better. Again, with all-new HC and OC and a young defense, seeing good half-time adjustments is important. Of course, these are single-game (or single-half) snapshots, they don't mean anything if they don't become a trend, and this team is in serious trouble if the OL doesn't get its head out of its ass. But there were at least some good things to build on. 19 3 2

shuler82
I was impressed by our 2nd half defense and Wilson. This is a young team with injuries- some of the guys out their weren’t on the team a week ago. If somehow the first half was the worst half of the season it will be a good year.
Popular Post LionelRichie
I was impressed by the kids in d. The cb’s were fine, the rookie LB’s were fine, the whole D was fine. They are putting the foundation in this year. The OL is an embarrassment. 4 1
Popular Post NYJ1
Corey Davis had a drop but I'm otherwise very impressed with his performance. 5 receptions 97 yards 2 TD in such an overall horrible team performance. Zach said he had the most chemistry with Davis last night before the game and that certainly seems to be the case. I'm also quite aware this is a rebuilding year. So really all told, I'm not impressed with the team, but I figured it wasn't going to be pretty today. I see a ton of potential in Zach. Moving forward I'm hopeful Becton is OK and comes back this season. I would insert Mims into the starting lineup. He seemed to give the Jets a shot of life when he came in. I would make it a point to get Moore involved earlier. But more than anything, the CS MUST get the OL on the same page and clean up the penalties.... 5

Swapping the worst OL in the NFl and adding a rookie G wasn't going to change a whole lot.

Untouchable
Throw the bank at Scherff, draft Neal and Linderbaum, and then prosper on offense. Is it overkill? You bet your ass Would it consistently give Zach 3+ seconds on every drop back and open up mammoth sized holes in the ground game? Yep Would at least 2 of our star studded OL leave for FA within 3-4 years? Yep And I’m more than okay with that. Go ahead and develop a young QB the proper way. Go ahead. Why not? I’m still a JD fan but I’d be lying if his background as a former OL and “master scout” doesn’t leave more to be desired…especially, ya know…along the OL.

Here's what I know: I've been paying the Jets $5,000 a year for season tickets for the last 20 years and I want to see the people we've brought in here actually live up to expectations. I'm not asking for the playoffs. I'm not even asking for a winning season. My expectations are that low. SAR I 3

BigRy56
The Jets defense was what I was most worried about and they played well. They looked well coached and tackled well. For a team trotting out a bunch of nobodies at CB and 2 rookies at LB, they looked really good. The second half adjustments scream good coaching to me. I can’t remember a time when we went into halftime in a bad spot and that spot didn’t get worse after the half. Wilson played really well. The OL got their ass handed to them 100% of the game and he managed to not let the whole deal get to him. Sam used to fold by the third quarter and Wilson got much better as the game went on. He does need to learn to throw the football away - some really stupid decisions in that regard
