This has been a major problem for a long while now.    Other than money, why sign here and put your career in the hands of the Johnsons and the incompetents they hire as GMs?

Even more reason to trade for Watson ASAP.  At least we will have a QB that players across the league know they can win with

Should be given till next year before catches true heat but so far his tenure has been a disaster. Hate on Macc all you want but JD is overseeing the worst stretch of Jet football I've seen in 25

Some of us have been counting that down for a while. The rabid support Douglas recieved based on nothing more than not being Mac was always pretty amusing. What little he has done as GM has

This better just be a hiccup for Zack. If he turns out to be Geno Smith 2.0, this is over.

Forget it.  Never happen.  Other than Favre, this organization fears bringing in a powerhouse gunslinger.  Plus with Watson's sexual assault baggage, Woody would never okay the deal.

Thought this on draft day; it hasn't changed my mind yet. Worry to me is Douglas is like Maccagnan in the sense he is at heart a scout, rather than a GM. He falls in love with a story, a find, a player than makes him think he's found a gem. And that also means he doesn't simply pick chalk.

And Wilson/Jones is right there the example. Understand; having had a son that played D2, from sophomoore of HS year on, these players are matching up, lifting, running, every summer against players who are of the same level of talent. They're going to camps every month at colleges every summer, sometimes several . It's a winnowing. And Mac Jones did not end up at Alabama by mistake, and that goes for Wilson and BYU too. Wilson may look like a diamond in the rough, but Jones is the sure if unspectacular thing. A scout overthinks that, a GM figures out who is a given, and who is really a reach.  You can overrate  a player because again you start to think you are the smartest guy in the room rather than being sensible.

Remember when Antonio Brown was going to prison?

This is what buyer's remorse looks like.  If only there were people who saw this coming...

Two games, 8 solo tackles, zero PDs, zero INTs, zero sacks, zero QB hits. But, sure, they gotta find the secret ways to use him. Gregg Williams is smiling somewhere.

The JD love here was so over the top.

He was the first GM in decades that the Jets hired who was legitimately respected around the league and a desirable candidate.  He also traded a Box Safety for two 1sts and a 3rd.

You'll just have to forgive people like me who was in that category.  Coming off Maccagnan, Douglas seemed like a breath of fresh air.  It just hasn't worked out at all so far.

This is why GMs tend to overvalue draft picks. If you look at the average return of a 5th round pick, any GM would consider it a no brainer to give up a 5th for Minshew still on his rookie deal. But like 80% of people think they are above-average drivers, 100% of GMs think they are above-average drafters.

However, while a GM has to be pragmatic, he also has to be confident in his ability and player evals and not draft scared.

A catch-22.

For once we can’t blame the process here. Jets landed not one but two highly desirable candidates for their top jobs. Woody didn’t cheap out and he changed the reporting structure. It was everything we have been agitating for for years. JD shouldn’t be above criticism — and I maintain failing to have a backup plan behind Wilson is a pretty glaring unforced error — but do we really think someone better is walking through that door? This isn’t an overpromoted clown situation like Idzik or Macc. Plus Woody isn’t paying like 6 HC/GMs at same time. Personally I don’t think he should get a second chance to pick another QB high if Wilson absolutely craters this year but he’s safe until end next year at minimum.

And Zach will never have a perfect game. Zach can’t hold Geno Smith’s jockstrap. This is in no way an endorsement of Geno. Geno is about the least you hope for in a QB prospect. Zach isn’t even that.

And I also liked the process by which Douglas seemed to arrive at a lot of his picks, too, highly valuing athleticism in the process.

Just gotta pray Douglas learns some lessons from the last 2 drafts and nails it in 2022.  But I'm not buying on Wilson until he shows me something, and if didn't nail the QB pick and sticks with the kid too long, the rest of the roster doesn't matter too much, and it's all over for Douglas.

I am patient enough to see the culture change that is happening... You can see it in press conferences and in the way players speak... But the impatience of fans like you are already ready to fire everyone 2 games into a season... It's idiotic

Hows that culture change looking?

Anyone who thinks JD and Macc are similar have no idea what they're talking about.

They’re both hacks.  Mac was endorsed by Casserly and supposedly a well respected guy around the league. JD was endorsed by the eagles and was supposedly the guy who made things happen in philly

Reminds of when the Mets hired Art Howe based on Billy Beane’s recommendation
