Joe Douglas is a failure

I'll give Douglas a bye for last year since Gase was the coach. It could be argued that JD didn't do him any favors draft wise etc, but Gase can pretty much f*ck up a wet dream and it's really more on the Johnsons that first McGag is here, brings in Gase, Gase gets Coffee Boy fired, brings in Douglas, but pretty clear JD didn't like Gase as his coach, rightly fires Gase.

But for all that, his drafts have sucked, the offensive "weapons" he drafted or signed don't look that impressive, and most importantly he's had 2 drafts and 2 FA periods to upgrade the O-Line and it still sucks. It might be acceptable if the O-line was mediocre and he got in an offensive player or two worth a f*ck, but instead the O-Line is trash and there aren't any compelling offensive players either.

And the offensive coordinator is offensive.

Other than that, fine job.

The Jets also might want to look into firing their scouts and getting new ones, because either they suck at evaluating talent, or they are bringing awesome suggestions to JD, which he then ignores. At least assess which ones have done well and which ones didn't and make the appropriate changes. Something.

More likely, they collectively suck.

At least, so far, based on the evidence on the field, I'd say it's that second thing.

Nah that doesn’t work because guys are going to stop watching the games or going to games. They have started websites, flown banners etc Believe it or not it has some effect for sure. They notice

But the problem with that is that woody sees it.  HE is the problem.

JD has been a disaster but this FO and coaching staff are here until 2024 at a minimum.

I think yes on coaches. However, look how bad it is around here at 0-3, if we are truly 1-16 0-17 etc. JD is going to be in hotwater. The fans ran Idzik out of here and the Johnsons listened.

New nickname for the Jets:  "The First Timers".  GMs, HCs, OCs, QBs, every-friggin'-body.

Whispering: "Woody?  Dunce.  Start to take your team, its management, and players seriously.   Yeah, I know the annual boatload of NFL media money means you could give two sh*ts.  But at least try."

Isn't that a porn genre?

JMO but at this stage of the season I think it's more the coaching than JD's roster building.  I'm asking myself a simple question - take the current roster and give them to 1998 Parcells/Belichick/Crenel and have them play Newsome's Flacco Super Bowl team coached by Saleh and LaFleur and I think we'd give them a game...

I don't know is Michael Carter/Ty Johnson the answers at RB? Corey Davis has flashed, Moore is a ghost, Mimms? The WR position has become shaky. The o line? A mess each game

I could continue to pick through the roster, is Echols the answer at CB? You get the point.

They do look poorly coached but at the same time I look at this roster, compare it to other NFL teams and say man this is a WEAK roster.

He’s been pretty bad up until this point. Not even coming close to living up to the reputation he brought

What reputation? Being in the proximity of the guys who are good at their job should not make a reputation. I asked just what exactly he had done besides be Adam Gase's buddy when he was hired and no one knew..

Gase as bad as he was, did more with less than this coaching staff has done to date.  There's far more talent around Zach than was around Darnold.  The Jets O was awful but at least they had a script to follow for the opening drive and it wasn't nearly as incompetent as what were seeing right now.

Saleh made a mistake putting a friend with no real resume in charge of the O.  He married himself to an O system that was built over years and only run successfully by a had full of teams with highly experienced coaches.

The combo of all rookies; HC, OC, DC, QB - was a huge mistake.  Huge.  At this point you just have to hope it's not creating long term damage.

My bias is I'm seeing Darnold play serviceable football elsewhere and not all of that is CMC. I just think we're overdoing it on the meme that JD is picking crap players.  A lot of what I've seen the last two weeks is bad coaching.  Belichick and Fangio have completely deballed  LaFleur in back-to-back weeks...

Unfortunately it may the worst scenario, which is bad play calling with mediocre players.

I agree, I'm stunned by how unprepared the team looks at times. Saleh needs to fix it. LaFlour game calling has been atrocious.

JD has very little GM experience.  I suspect when he hired Saleh he defered to him on his assitants.  Looks like this rebuild is all joined at the hip.  A lot of moving pieces have to work out for this to actually turn around.

When Parcells took over the Kotite team we had one of the most experienced group of coordinators and position coaches in the business across the board.  Ewbank put together a great coaching staff back in the 60's.  It worked.

There's a lot of unproven guys on the roster and up the line coaching right up to the GM.  Not saying it can't work, it can but it's very high risk.

Wasnt around for Ewbank but Parcells took over a good team, that's just how bad Kotite was.  He had talented vets in addition to a veteran staff.  He had like 15 carry over starters or something like that.

Anywho, the only time a rookie HC/QB has worked long term was Johnson and Aikman.

His worst failure, in my opinion, the lack of foresight shown by not acquiring a receiving TE as an outlet for Wilson in the middle of the field.

Fair point.  I also saw Ty Johnson perform poorly as a safety valve out of the backfield.  Having someone with good hands who can give you 5 yds on a checkdown is a huge bonus

As of September 27, 2021, Joe Douglas is failing as a GM. You could mark this as the moment where I shifted from being a JD supporter to being a JD questioner. I'm not completely soured on JD but I have so many questions for him to answer. I'm just going to ask these two right now.

How is it possible that we went into the season with Tyler Kroft, Ryan Griffin, and Daniel Brown as our three TEs? If the TE room was (number 1 TE), Tyler Kroft, and Ryan Griffin, I am singing a different tune. Kroft and Griffin are not starting TEs.

Two part question. Was this season a planned tank? If not, how is Mike White the back up QB?

The coaching staff was first rate across the board.  Arguably one of the greatest coaching staffs in NFL history.

The thing about Parcells is he was a COACH.  He didn't put scheme over player.  He knew how to take talent and put it on the field in a position to succeed.

Saleh and LaFleur put scheme before player, misuse their talent (or don't play them at all) and the product on the field suffers for it.

Johnson hired David Shula from Miami to be the OC in Aikman's rookie year.  After it was clear neopitsim didn't work, he canned him after his second year and made Norv Turner the OC.  The Cowboys went 11 and 5 and was the OC when they won back to back Championships.
