Sperm Edwards
Technically it's a 4-yr $70MM extension, on top of his 5th yr option at $10MM, plus a restructure of all 5 seasons to make it like tearing up the 5th yr option and signing him to a new 5 yr $80MM deal. On the plus side, if Seattle decides they don't want him anymore really early on, it appears they can get out of it after 2 years and $39MM: His $21MM SB, his y2 $12.44MM OB, his y1 and y2 salaries totaling $3MM = $36.44MM. Plus according to OTC he's also got $2.56MM of his y3 salary guaranteed (payable on 2/4 if he's cut?) = $39MM total. This would only save paying him the balance of his $11MM y3 salary, so for this to happen, Seattle would have to deem that in 2023 he's not worth $8.5MM and a roster spot (since that's all the new money they'd save paying out). But it's a mother of a dead cap acceleration to realize that savings. In effect, though, this would mean they'd have paid him $29MM for the 2022 season alone (1 more season beyond the 5th year option they already had him locked into). If they keep him 3 years, it's $47.5MM total. Too early to predict for certain, but as likely as not this is where they'll end up. They could cut him after y3, deem or actually make him a post-6/1 cut, and then they just carry the dead cap of $7MM apiece in y4 and y5. His y4 and y5 cap numbers are both in the $24MM range (~$17MM salary + $7MM from past-paid bonus). I think that's a long shot for him to see all of it. More likely he takes a sizable pay cut or Seattle decides it's had enough and just decides to part ways with him outright. With all the young coaches and players and new faces and new scheme, the Jets look like a huge mess right now. Adding this mess on top of it wouldn't have helped. 3

You are totally confusing LB play and SS play in which the SS can do whatever he wants. Jamals effectiveness as a pure lb would be a LOT less than it is as a roaming free from responsibility SS

Yes, it would have been totally worth the two 1sts and a 3rd and a massive contract to see Jamal play in Saleh's defense. What joy that would bring. Why do you even post in these threads? You've been telling us for months to stop talking about Jamal Adams. Take your smugness and condescension elsewhere. Or post some nordic women. No one cares what you think about this topic. Popular Post JetPotato
I don't know how anyone can not respect this man. He single-handedly convinced an NFL team to trade two 1st round picks for him, then make him as the highest paid player at his position for several years using only his mouth, a Twitter account and some dance moves, and not with a single thing he has ever done on the field. He is an absolute genius, whether you choose to see it or not. 7 1 1

jetstream23
Adams is a good player, but not great and nowhere near deserving of the money he's being paid. Seattle did EXACTLY what we thought good, well-run teams don't do.... make a bad trade and then compound it with a bad contract. This is an amazing whiff by them so far. Maybe things change but Jamal isn't Troy Polamalu and the NFL is changing, he isn't even a Top 10 Safety against the pass. Don't be surprised if he eventually becomes a full time outside LB at some point. He won't get any faster as he ages. Jets dodged a bullet here. The trade value will become an increasingly discussed storyline as we head through the season. The Rams and Cardinals look stellar in the NFC West. San Fran is also good. Seattle will have a tough time getting out of that division with a Wild Card. Longshot prediction..... some Russell Wilson trade chatter in November, especially if the Packers are winning and Rodgers isn't on the trade bloc.

Jetsfan80
As was predictable, the Seahawks are blitzing Adams less, thus making it less likely he deals with another multi-game injury after having signed his new deal. After all, an undersized WLB going up against giant OT's up to 10x per game is not wise for his long-term health. Last year, Adams blitzed 98 times in 12 games, or 8.2 per game. So far this season, he's only blitzed 11 times in 3 games, or 3.7 per game. And he hasn't gotten close to the QB on any of those 11 blitzes. If only there were people out there who warned that this kind of thing would happen.

Amazing. Quote A year ago they manufactured sack production by having Adams blitz off the edge with Bobby Wagner lined up in the A-gap to draw protection. It helped him break a much talked about sack record but in reality, it was always a red herring. Adams blitzed, on average, eight times a game. If you ask any safety to blitz eight times a game off the edge with an $18m linebacker in the A-gap, there’s a decent chance they’ll also break the sack record. Wagner’s role essentially was reduced to setting the table for Adams. He blitzed 100 times last season, compared to 41 times in 2018 (probably his best season as a pro) and 71 times in 2019. It gets better.... Quote Furthermore, Adams often refers to himself as a ‘weapon’ or ‘playmaker’. I think ‘peacock’ is a more fitting description. I think he’s a show-off. Bringing a $2200 Louis Vuitton coffee cup to podium after the Tennessee game just for show was indicative of what I find off-putting about Adams. Like a peacock, I think he’s very good at showing off and letting everyone know he’s there. I’d prefer to see a bit more on the field, frankly, to justify this. 2

I saw a lot of the Seattle game Sunday and their defense is just epicly bad. Adams on one sort of just jogged with a player in coverage and made sort of no effort to cover him. It was awful. Seattle could win up giving us a pretty high pick this year. 3
