The de facto Scottish National Anthem, Flower of Scotland, is entirely about fighting off the English and kicking them out of Scotland. And Scotland is a component Country of the UK, lol. If you'd like to be moved by an entire stadium singing their national anthem against their most hated rival, have a wee look here: And be assured, Scottish national football is about as 'good' as the Jets, lol. Hey, we had a come from behind game on Saturday night where we looked dreadful in the first half, did everything we could to lose, then fought back to a nail biting finish. Difference is, we actually WON.

Panzer Division Marduk
The flyover was awesome. Disappointed they didn't have the mikes turned up for the other anthem singers for the UK one, after all the hyping they did of the show they were on beforehand - so wanted to hear a Rosanne version of GSTQ. She could have sang the Star Spangled Banner upside down while holding a bottle of Bud Light and it would be better than any version of an anthem where half the stupid lyrics are "God save the queen". It's over, it's old hat. It's been done, and a lot of these people need to stop thinking they're Aretha Franklin. Learn the words and stop worrying about hitting the extra high note. I'd like to see how many of these singers can actually explain to you what the words mean without looking at them on a piece of paper. Agreed. National anthems are meant to be performed simply. It's supposed to be about the song and nation itself and not the artist. And some singers focus so much on the style that, as you note, they forget the words. Idiotic and narcissistic. Even Whitney Houston's fantastic performance of the anthem (barely over 2 minutes) didn't take nearly as long as some of the artists do it today. And y'all aren't Whitney. Stop it. Playing/performing the anthem at sporting events really didn't become popularized in the US until World War II. It doesn't need to be an absolute necessity to have it at sporting events.
