Were he a leader rather than a hack beholden to Roger Goodell, NFL players would have the best longterm care in the world. Pensions and health coverage would vest with way less service time, and PS time would count in full or in part. Instead he sells out for 17 games and the empty shiny trinket of free agency with unguaranteed contracts. And about that; no other sport has unguaranteed contracts. League was upset he was allowed to coach Sunday. Thought action should have been taken much earlier by Davis seems this was a revenge hit for what he said about the nfl as an ESPN EMPLOYEE that was leaked via the Discovery of the WFT investigation. Schefter says league wanted Davis to fire him and but he didn’t. He can’t fire him for something he said in confidence in an email when employed elsewhere 10 years ago. I highly doubt Gruden simply resigns and forfeits the remaining $60M (especially in this economy, hey-yo!) The fact that he was so comfortable putting those words on record probably speaks to the culture in league circles. I have no doubt this is pretty commonplace. He deserved his fate but given the NFL lets people get away with heinous sh*t that directly causes far more harm it’s pretty hypocritical to single him out. Imagine two years ago being told that Jon Gruden would be banished from the league while Antonio Brown is being celebrated by every dipsh*t announcer as a guy who fought through “adversity” to become a success story.
