One guys jobs is to make jokes, the other is to be face of franchise and lead a diverse group of people in a league who is trying to attract a diverse audience while being outward proponents of equality.  I would assume, those people care.

Maybe people who are actually potentially affected by things should get to make the decision and not the Twitter mob.

Just said in ESPN: Pretty much saying NFL did a hit job by releasing more emails to pressure Mark Davis to fire Gruden. League was upset he was allowed to coach Sunday. Thought action should have been taken much earlier by Davis

seems this was a revenge hit for what he said about the nfl as an ESPN EMPLOYEE that was leaked via th

The nfl

Where, if are on the Patriots you get caught cheating and they literally destroy the tapes, where you can kill someone and still play, you can go Antonio Brown crazy on your baby mama and still play.

But, emails will be leaked from before you were an employee of the league and you are out of football.

Beaton explained on Friday that an NFL investigation into "workplace misconduct at the Washington Football Team" had unearthed "more than 650,000 emails" that -- in the words of the league -- "raised issues beyond the scope of that investigation." One issue: Gruden's messages to the Washington team's then-president.

Good post but in 2010 most people didn't realize their private e-mails even ones on company servers would be used against them in a wok environment that didn't exist in 2010.   One of the things that we have lost is any right to our private conversations being private.

People do change over 10 year periods.  The culture changes but so do we as individuals.  Why hold a view of Gruden based on something he said in 2010 in a private e-mail to 2021 standards of privacy?  Most criminals are subject to a statute of limitations that's less than 10 years.

When it is on a company email server (This case ESPN) all is fair game. These companies basically have to keep every email they have for audit and investigative purposes. They may take a backup when someone leaves a company and retain it forever if they want to.

I just want to know in what world is it okay to send out emails like that from your workplace ? It was either incredibly stupid or arrogant on Gruden's part and to be honest he deserved what he got.

I am not a fan of cancel culture but I wish people would just take a moment and think before they hit that "Send" button.

And I can guarantee you they will go through each one of those 650,000 emails

Not sure the status of Grudin's contract with the Raiders. Does this qualify as a legal out from his contract or will he still get the balance of his deal which is over 50 million. Not that much money for the NFL to pay off but a lot for Marc Davis on his own.

Attract paying customers.  That’s the idea.  Types of green is the only diversity.

And that’s exactly why Kap doesn’t have a job. The customers can’t stand his ass, evident by them booing him out the building. You don’t need owner collusion for that.  Any idiot can see it’s bad for business

Remember when if you had a problem with someone in your life you actually sat down with them and try to hash it out? Now it's just block and move on. Younger people even treat family relationships like social media "friends." Say one thing they don't like, unfriended. No one has the fortitude to face anything that doesn't neatly fit into their untested belief paradigm. Sad state of society. But the good news is there is always a backlash.

You fist fight at Thanksgiving?

I never understood why people and news organizations put the word "gate" as the last part of a compound word to describe a conspiracy/coverup. It always came across as lazy writing. Watergate was the name of the hotel.

Watergate gate.

According to their  logic, Watergate was about water. ?

Oddly enough, I had dinner at the Watergate years ago. French place. Excellent.

Why though? For things he did before he was even hired? Did he lie on a background check or something?

There are certain jobs that require you to be politically correct. Joe from Yonkers isn't getting fired from his construction job because of a racist email 20 years ago to friend.

Some of you are oddly concerned about the well being of a millionaire who literally dug his own grave. He was a former NFL coach that was making a living broadcasting games on TV with a dream of returning to coaching. He needed to just not send racist/bigoted emails to a General Manager (likely using the GM's Bruceallen@redskins.com email) to continue making millions.

If he doesn't deserve to be fired for the contents of the emails, then he surely deserves to be fired for bad judgment in putting those thoughts in an email and sending to an exec of a football team.

Wasn’t comparing Chappell to Gruden. just commenting on Chapelle

There are plenty of stories out based on comedians and scared to go anywhere near the proverbial line.

Everyone will have there own opinion but the “Woke” mob comes after all, the ones that get canceled is a different story

Would like to see the ref call it fair  that is all

In the comedy space, it’s always been no holds barred. Ralphie May (RIP) said a lot of things close to the line and had two Netflix specials. Netflix is pretty good about supporting artist. Joe Rogan had two comedy specials on Netflix as well.

It could be that some people are too big to cancel.

Yeah they knew exactly what they were doing.

Goodell doesn't care about him saying racist, homophobic stuff. He cares he called him a f*ggot pussy - which he is though.

They were going to keep releasing stuff until Gruden had no chance to coach anymore

That word doesn't have any place in this forum.

Two thoughts:

First, Gruden needs to explain that he had anger management issues and would lash out against people in what he felt was the most hurtful ways. It was wrong, he ashamed, and he profoundly apologizes to everyone that he has hurt and let down. He needs to follow this up with sizeable donations to Minority, LGBQ and Feminist causes.

Second, have his agent call Barstool Sports because they are the only "media" outlet that would even consider affording him the opportunity to reform himself.  No one wants their legacy to be based on the worst moment of their lives.

how are you so certain of that in today's day and age. If the mother of a police officer who was justified in his actions on duty can be fired, who's to say that Joe can't either. That's the world we live in today, and hopefully more and more people are coming to their senses. I guess we'll see come 2022, and 2024.

And that's not saying what Gruden did was right...

Too bad he didn't just sexually assault 50 women woulda been back in the league in no time.

Unfortunately this is a results league. Gruden can’t throw for 4000 yards and 30 TDs. There’s a reason Ray Rice was black balled (end of career and declining) and Kareem Hunt was picked up quickly.

If he was a good coach, he’d still be here. Belichick wouldn’t have had to quit. Gruden stinks though

Just for the record, you don't know that she was fired simply for being the mother of that police officer. You have her version of events. The company released a statement that gave a different account of why she was fired. You have chosen to pick the version that fits your narrative which is exactly what is wrong with this country.....from both sides.

You're conflating questions with "being concerned with a millionaire." If you need to characterize the other position in such a negative way, perhaps you are not on as strong of ground as you believe.

How about this?  It's biting and pointed.  But lacks all the bigoted tropes.

"DeMaurice Smith is an incompetent buffoon who has sold out his membership forever. Were he a leader rather than a hack beholden to Roger Goodell, NFL players would have the best longterm care in the world."

So you think those emails were an exercise of good judgment? The type of good judgment you want from the Head Coach of a billion dollar franchise?
