Practically speaking, though, how can he continue to lead an organization with mostly black players, and an openly gay player after they see what he wrote, and how can the team not be distracted by the ensuing media frenzy and public relations nightmare? That's why I think he can no longer be the head coach. This is the point. I dont necessarily agree that 10 year old emails you thought were private and likely said in jest should used against you but when you're in his position it simply won't work. He, his team, and Mark Davis would be asked questions about it daily and the only thing anyone talked about regarding the Raiders would be the "scandal". If he were a player he might be able to apologize and everyone would forget in a few months. As the face and voice of the team it won't work.

Thought action should have been taken much earlier by Davis seems this was a revenge hit for what he said about the nfl as an ESPN EMPLOYEE that was leaked via th The nfl Where, if are on the Patriots you get caught cheating and they literally destroy the tapes, where you can kill someone and still play, you can go Antonio Brown crazy on your baby mama and still play. But, emails will be leaked from before you were an employee of the league and you are out of football.
Larz
Beaton explained on Friday that an NFL investigation into "workplace misconduct at the Washington Football Team" had unearthed "more than 650,000 emails" that -- in the words of the league -- "raised issues beyond the scope of that investigation." One issue: Gruden's messages to the Washington team's then-president.

One of the things that we have lost is any right to our private conversations being private. People do change over 10 year periods. The culture changes but so do we as individuals. Why hold a view of Gruden based on something he said in 2010 in a private e-mail to 2021 standards of privacy? Most criminals are subject to a statute of limitations that's less than 10 years. When it is on a company email server (This case ESPN) all is fair game. These companies basically have to keep every email they have for audit and investigative purposes. They may take a backup when someone leaves a company and retain it forever if they want to. I just want to know in what world is it okay to send out emails like that from your workplace ? It was either incredibly stupid or arrogant on Gruden's part and to be honest he deserved what he got. I am not a fan of cancel culture but I wish people would just take a moment and think before they hit that "Send" button.

Rangers9
Not sure the status of Grudin's contract with the Raiders. Does this qualify as a legal out from his contract or will he still get the balance of his deal which is over 50 million. Not that much money for the NFL to pay off but a lot for Marc Davis on his own.

There are certain jobs that require you to be politically correct. Joe from Yonkers isn't getting fired from his construction job because of a racist email 20 years ago to friend. Some of you are oddly concerned about the well being of a millionaire who literally dug his own grave. He was a former NFL coach that was making a living broadcasting games on TV with a dream of returning to coaching. He needed to just not send racist/bigoted emails to a General Manager (likely using the GM's Bruceallen@redskins.com email) to continue making millions. If he doesn't deserve to be fired for the contents of the emails, then he surely deserves to be fired for bad judgment in putting those thoughts in an email and sending to an exec of a football team.

Ralphie May (RIP) said a lot of things close to the line and had two Netflix specials. Netflix is pretty good about supporting artist. Joe Rogan had two comedy specials on Netflix as well. Sonny Werblin
Two thoughts: First, Gruden needs to explain that he had anger management issues and would lash out against people in what he felt was the most hurtful ways. It was wrong, he ashamed, and he profoundly apologizes to everyone that he has hurt and let down. He needs to follow this up with sizeable donations to Minority, LGBQ and Feminist causes. Second, have his agent call Barstool Sports because they are the only "media" outlet that would even consider affording him the opportunity to reform himself. No one wants their legacy to be based on the worst moment of their lives.
