All jokes aside, (and Lafleur too) semi competent QB play could have us 2 or even 3 wins right now.

Over the next 4/5 weeks:

  • IND
  • MIA
  • HOU

All winnable. Not so much with the Wilson-Lafleur Midnight Express

Houston and Miami are gonna hang 45 on our D.  Indy might break the scoreboard.

That isnt the point.  Why wasn't this done prior to the season to help the kid.

Its a panic move and it shows the true nature of our GM.

Not to mention it would probably help if our backup QB  had more than 5 days of practice with the team before playing in a game.

Someone will quote you and say “he played in this system in Denver” where he went 2-6 and tossed 6Tds to 5ints 😂😂😂

The overreaction to the Jets deciding to bring back Flacco after an injury to Wilson is kind of funny. They gave up a 6th round pick to get a veteran with actual game experience back in here. Yes, they probably could have just re-signed him in the off season but who knows what Joe Flacco was thinking at that time.

Maybe he thought he had a better opportunity in Philly, maybe the Jets thought Nick Foles or a better option would shake free and they could sign them.

There's lots of things to get mad at Douglas about, making this trade isn't one of them. JMO

You don't find it troubling that the GM has given up a 4th and 6th/5th over the past two years trying to figure out the back up QB position? This is something I thought even Joe Douglas truthers could admit is a bad job.

So wait JD didn’t believe in Mike White???
wtf
Either way we need a backup QB while Wilson is out....I'd rather see White play in these next few games, but it'll be good to have a vet as a back up to help groom Wilson.

Interesting news to wake up to this morning.  A few thoughts:

1) The "Jets should have just re-signed him in the offseason" stuff is being a bit overblown.  The Jets did offer Flacco a deal, but he chose to go to the Eagles - probably because he still views himself as starting quality, and believed he would have a better chance being the starter over Hurts than Wilson.

2) The Jets did misplay the veteran backup market in the offseason.  There were plenty of veteran backups to be had, but the Jets slow-played it, were spurned by Flacco, then found there was no-one left except Brian Hoyer - who the Jets brought it for a visit, only to see him then re-sign with the Cheats.

3) Flacco saw the writing on the wall on Philly when the Iggles stuck with Hurts AND traded for Minshew after signing Flacco - he probably will welcome a trade back to the area where he grew up, where he gets a chance to play while Wilson is out and be the definite #2 going forward.

4) Personally, I probably wouldn't have made the trade but would have had White and Johnson hold down the position until Wilson is healthy.  What is the point of having these guys as backups if you don't trust them to play when the starter is out?

5) This trade probably means we won't be seeing Wilson back anytime soon.  The projections are he misses from 2 to 4 weeks - I don't think the Jets would have made the trade if Wilson was going to be back quickly. He probably goes onto IR this week and misses at least 3 games, quite possibly more.

It's a pure panic move through and through.

The biggest defense of Douglas on this board is that this is a total rebuild and tear down, even this season. That we are going to be this bad and somehow it's a good thing.

Giving up a draft pick for a vet when we are 1-5 is pointless. How does this move line up with the tear down and rebuild defense? What is the point of Josh Johnson? Why is White even on this team if he cant do this?

Saleh is under fire and worrried about a 1-16 season.

He dialed up the pressure on Joe

Joe flacco scored a total of 10 points in his 1st two starts.  0-4 as a starter. He was awful other than a couple deep throws.  His comp % was 55%  he was sacked 7 times.  He got a few deep throws to work however.

I know what I said was hyperbole but we are such a depressing mess of a team.

Let's look at the Jets overall QB strategy:

- Jets had Flacco last year and Flacco said he still wanted to play

- Jets let him go and said no thanks we are good with White and Morgan

- White beats out Morgan

- Morgan gets claimed....whoops!?!  Our 4th rounder from a year ago gone poof but that is okay because we like White

- Jets do nothing after Morgan gets claimed, no problem dudes we are good.

- Oline and team stinks and likelihood of young qb getting killed is not low, team does nothing at all.  No we are good with white and maybe josh johnson

- Young QB predictably gets hurt.

- OMG!  We actually have Mike White as our starter for 4 weeks and no back up?  omg!  Trade an asset for Flacco!

Just brutal GMing and coaching.  Just awful.

The meathead special

Can someone make this a sandwich

Only the Jets would not want a player let him walk and then spend draft capital to get that player again. We should have kept him from the start and ease wilson into the position

An absolute fetal position surrender by Gutless Joe. Silence the critics but don't bring in anyone likely to outshine Wilson.

But what happens when you bring someone in to be a tomato can and he does outperform your new Golden Boy?

actually a good move.  flacco knows the players and has a much better cast around him now than last season.  he'll get the ball out faster and be more decisive with his throws.

This ^^

- and his decision-making will be  "more correct".

Flacco looks at his game plan notes handed to him on a napkin:

Hand off to Gore Michael Carter for 1 yard

Hand off to Gore Ty Johnson for 2 yards

Pass incomplete short of the sticks to Hogan Corey Davis

This was an “oh sh*t we’re about to be 1-8 because I didn’t do this before the season started let me try to save my ass” move. Preach the whole season about a youth movement and now we’ve got a 36yr old statue under center 6 games into the year with a 1-5 record. The timing is just foolish and screams panic from the front office

What youthful QB were you hoping we were going to bring in? I'm not denying this is a panic move but given the history between GM and QB the move seems to make sense.

this move is another example Joe should be fired (he won't though)

Joe has no idea what to do with QBs

He set sam up to fail-even if you think Sam sucks Joe did him no favors-gore no line no tight ends and perriman lol

Wilson was not a good pick but okay Joe liked him-so you protect him and sit him until you have a line and a roster around him-nope Joe ran him out there with no line and no tight ends-he gets hurt

He drafted Morgan using a 4th round pick and he is gone

Now we bring in a vet-something we should have done day one but we actually have to trade for Joe Flacco who was washed years ago lol

Teams use their draft picks in all sorts of ways. Especially mid-late rounders. Douglas has acquired a lot of picks and is now trading one in the 6th round for a veteran backup with a legit resume in the league, even if his best days are long behind him. It's hardly a reason to get upset. There's plenty of other reasons to be mad at Douglas. This just isn't one of them IMO.

And yes he missed on a player in the 4th round last year. He joins a long list of GM's who do that.

It is the greatest stain on JD's tenure that he has never made any effort to have a credible backup QB -- not even going into Darnold's third year when it was pretty obvious he was a bust. We just paid more in draft capital than Trubisky would've cost and the same as Minshew cost. Flacco's salary is also more than both those guys' pay combined. It's too late to insure your house when it is already on fire. JD admits he struck out by failing to re-sign Anderson. Well, his management of the QB position is swinging and missing three times at one Bugs Bunny pitch. This was beyond a bad call. This was utter incomprehensible incompetence and under a well-run team, would be a firing offense.

Almost like there is a difference between signing one in the off season and it costs nothing and now having to make a panic move and give up a draft pick.

Sorry let me correct that:

Preseason:

Why is JD wasted cap space signing a vet in the off-season.  Wilson is the clear starter!

Now:

Why didn't JD sign a vet in the off-season.  We clearly needed one!
