A comp pick simply wont happen no matter how you shake it. (It would be a 3rd to 4th rd)

To receive that comp, we would need to sign less veteran FAs than we let go (that qualify). With our cap space, we will be bringing in quite a bit more, so it's kind of a non option.

Deal him now, get what you can.

Thanks. Agreed. Take what you can and keep it moving if this is the case

Do we have to trade away everyone who has any value for mid round picks again? Why not keep the players, and, ya know, try to win some football games?

I know, "professional athlete".  But once these guys check out mentally, it's better to just take what you can and move on.  IMO Maye has been broken by all the losing.  Not sure he ever comes back to a level that justifies the money he's looking for...

This is shrewd. If no team will offer a third round pick for him, it speaks to his value and helps the Jets in negotiations. If a team does offer a third, well then .... Trader Joe strikes again!

Actually, it does nothing in helping the Jets in negotiations.  When he becomes a free agent after this season, then what other teams offer him will determine his value, not what teams are willing to trade for him right now.

Any team that feels that Maye will significantly help their team this year in going to the playoffs and beyond, will consider a trade for him.  Although a solid player, he does create turnovers and does not do enough to warrant a high draft pick.

I believe that the real price for Maye is a 4th rounder, not a 3rd.  A 5th round pick would get the deal done today.  We were able to trade Leo for a 3rd because the thought is that a pass rusher and disruptor that the Giants thought they were getting would warrant a 3rd round pick.  Maye is not a disruptor.

Yeah, so was JA. Not to say they'll get a haul anywhere near that level, but still.... JA was on his way out too. In fact he was shooting his way out. JD got a 4th for that bum at TE recently.

Adams had two years left on his deal that he had no way out of. The Jets had serious leverage.

Just keep him and tag him!!! Then let him walk. He's a solid player

not a good idea..

How many times can a team franchise tag a player in the NFL?

Players can be tagged in consecutive years, but the team must pay the player more each year he is tagged. (Kirk Cousins can tell you all about it.) For a player to be franchise tagged two straight years, the team must pay 120 percent of the player's previous salary. If it's three straight years, the team would need to pay the player 144 percent of his previous salary.

From the CBA: Any club that designates a player as a franchise player for the third time shall, on the date the third such designation is made, be deemed to have tendered the player a one-year NFL player contract for the greater of ...

— (A) the average of the five largest prior year salaries for players at the position with the highest such average

— (B) 120 percent of the average of the five largest prior year salaries for players at the position at which the player participated in the most plays during the prior league year

— or (C) 144 percent of his prior year salary.

hes a FA in 2 months. i would just wait if i was another team.

now if JD can pull  a sign and trade then we would get good picks back.

The big problem with Maye is that he's a solid player who is neither a problem nor a playmaker but wants to be paid like a first round playmakers. He isn't mouthy like Adams about it but he reasonably expects to try to get a payday out of his first round selection. Douglas isn't likely to overpay for a reliable safety so either Maye needs to become a playmaker in a hurry to justify some other team wanting to give him a big contract or Maye is going to have to test the market and find out there may not be a lot of teams who want to pay him playmaker money. Either way, Maye's time here seems over. Best option for all involved seems to be finding a team Maye would like to join that will give up something reasonable and make the deal happen so Maye can sign a new contract elsewhere.

We don't need defense. Mike White is averaging 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. You can't stop him, only hope to contain him.

Any team with strong playoff hopes for whom Maye would represent a material upgrade should be interested.

Off the cuff, I'd venture to suggest KC (after Matthieu they don't have much in the secondary), CIN (yesterday pretty much proved they need help), and especially DAL (who has the NFCE wrapped up but should be thinking bigger).

I don't think it's at all a reach to ask for a 3rd from any of those teams.
