Game Observations (CIN)

Absolutely stunning!!!  I still can't believe that the Jets beat CIN 34-31 with
a "backup QB" after last week's NE horror show.  I had to review the tape multiple
times before posting because there were so many things to analyze.  Let's take a 
look at the game/players and realize a QB controversy is looming:

Coaching

- Changes made by the offensive staff this week, Mike LaFleur (OC) was up in the booth
while Rob Calabrese and Matt Cavanaugh were down on the sideline.

- Significant play call changes as more "jet sweeps" and RPO's were included in the game
plan.  And LaFleur opened up the trick plays as he whipped out multiple WR "flea flicker"
passes and the "Philly special" for the final two point play of the game.

Special Teams

- Braxton Berrios had a 29.5 average on his kick off returns.  But his only punt return
was on the Jets final drive of the game and it was huge.  Instead of fair catching it 
at the 10, Berrios returned it for 16 yards and got the offense into decent field
position.  If the offense started at the 10 yard line you wonder how conservative Saleh/
LaFleur would've been.

- Matt Ammendola was decent as he was 2/3 in FG and 2/2 in XP.  But with his leg strength
he needs to have a better attempt on the 54 yarder he missed.

- What a pleasure to only see the Jet punter ONCE all game as Tom Morstead generated a
45 yard average.

Defense

- A bend but don't break effort from the defense.  Particularly with them having to deal
with three first half turnovers by the offense, impressive that they only allowed 10
points.

- Fantastic early stand by them after the first INT as they stopped CIN four times and
prevented them from scoring.

- Nice return by CJ Mosley as he had 10 Tackles and a TFL.  With Mosley and Jarrad Davis
making his debut, the defense was able to play an extremely "light box" (6 men) and limit
CIN to 16 rushes for 41 yards.  

- WOW!!! An actual Jabari Zuniga sighting and in one game he produced more than Vernon
Gholston did in his career (Sack and a QB Hit).  Who saw that coming???

- Excellent game by the DT's as Sheldon Rankins had 4 Tackles, Sack, 2 TFL's and a QB Hit.
While Quinnen Williams had 2 Tackles, Sack, TFL, QB Hit and a Pass Defensed.

- Shaq Lawson didn't have the "stats" but had the biggest play of the game with his tip and
INT that set the offense up in prime position.

- With the defense in "nickel" most of the game Michael Carter had a ton of reps and continued
to impress (4 Tackles, Pass Defensed).  And when he was sent on blitzes he "sped up" Joe Burrow
and forced him into incompletions.

- Brandin Echols continues to grow at CB, he was a big part of the coverage that limited JaMarr
Chase to 3 catches and 32 yards.

Offense

- Excellent game by the OLine particularly in pass protection, Mike White was kept spotless
in the pocket.  And Michael Carter was effective running the ball.

- Speaking of Michael Carter he was dynamic in all phases as he racked up 172 total yards and
a TD (15 rushes / 77 yards / TD and 9 recs / 95 yards).  Carter's "contact balance" is outrageous,
as he constantly shakes off tacklers keeps his feet and picks up additional yardage.

- Ty Johnson contributed heavily in the passing game as he had 5 recs / 71 yards and a TD.

- Jamison Crowder and Elijah Moore provided reliable underneath options for Mike White all day.
Crowder recovered from his fumble and had 8 recs / 84 yards.  While Elijah Moore had 6 recs /
67 yards.

QB

- Now let's deal with the multiple "elephants in the room", Mike White changed the offense
entirely:

 * Even though he never started before, his experience in the league (drafted in 2018) allowed
   him to run the LaFleur/SF offense efficiently.  As was said in the post game press conferences
   LaFleur called multiple deep shots early in the game.  But White showed an "inner clock" and
   came off of those progressions when he knew they weren't there and went to intermediate
   receivers or check downs.  This allowed for the offense to keep "moving the chains" and never
   getting into 3rd and longs.

 * Another benefit of White not staying on the deep shots in his progression was he got rid of
   the ball quickly and made the OLine not sustain blocks for too long.  The trait White displayed
   yesterday is one of Zach Wilson's biggest issues.  Wilson (so far) looks for the "sexy shot" and
   doesn't come off of it, leading him to scramble and taking risks down field.  Against TEN it
   worked 4-5 times and they were able to win, but I remember saying it would be hard to sustain
   an offense based on "off script" deep shots. 

- White was excellent (37/45, 405 yards, 3 TD and 2 INT) and as mentioned above was a "chain mover"
as he specialized in intermediate and check down routes.  Its crazy/sad to think he was the first
Jet QB in 21 years (Vinny Testaverde) to throw for over 400 yards.    

- Trait wise White showed the good "inner clock" I mentioned above, and decent arm strength on medium
throws.  His one deep shot was pretty erratic (40+ yards to Elijah Moore) and he "lumbers" around
a little bit on the few occasions where he had to move in the pocket.

- Hopefully Wilson was taking notes on the way White ran the offense yesterday.  Because he needs to
mix White's "inner clock" and willingness to take check downs into his game.  

- As far as the rest of the season, if White continues to impress I would keep Wilson on the bench
and make him earn the starting spot.  It would be totally unfair to the rest of the roster to just
hand the spot back to Wilson, they deserve to stay enthusiastic and try to win as many games as 
possible.

Great post. I think AVT requires special recognition and this game was really a salve for Joe Douglas who has been under so much scrutiny. AVT looked like the lineman that Douglas traded up for and a few of our most impressive plays came off his run blocking or protecting White from disaster (a clear would be sack turned into the Berrios TD). 

But that wasn't just it - Douglas has been crushed for not having a veteran QB beside Zach in the room, but his faith in White was vindicated. We finally saw Davis at LB, and he was very effective with Mosley as noted in the OP. May be most importantly, the other big Douglas gamble in the young secondary really delivered holding Chase to very limited production. You even had production from Elijah Moore ,Michael Carter and Denzel Mims!

None of this to absolve Douglas of our 2-5 record, but it was the best day he's had in ages.

Gotta rewatch the game.

 

It was clear as day off of last week's performance that White was most comfortable with the underneath passes to the backs and TEs yet is seemed like the Bengals were protecting against the long ball all day.

Take what the defense gives you is a very effective strategy in the NFL.

No hero ball. Just efficient moving the chains stuff. It's only one game, but if continues to play well , it be hard to bench him till Zach understands smart football.

Yeah - and THATS NOT A BAD THING. The best outcome you can have is talent within your locker room pushing each other to get better, especially if it means someone like Zach has time to acclimate.

I think the RPO stuff probably has something to do with the fact that White is capable of making a fake.  Wilson has looked truly pitiful at it all year.

WE ATTACKED THE EDGES EFFECTIVELY AND KEPT THEIR DEFENSE HONEST WITH MISDIRECTION PLAYS - SOMETHING OTHER TEAMS HAVE USED AGAINST US.  A LITTLE JAMIE LANISTER FROM GAME OF THRONES.

- Significant play call changes as more "jet sweeps" and RPO's were included in the game
plan.  And LaFleur opened up the trick plays as he whipped out multiple WR "flea flicker"
passes and the "Philly special" for the final two point play of the game.

I ADD THAT MIMS GOT 70% OF THE SNAPS AND HIS BLOCKING AFFECTED THOSE GADGET PLAYS.

BERRIOS HAS WON ME OVER AND NOT JUST BECAUSE WE WON.  HIS RETURN GAME REMINDS ME OF JIM LEONARD.  HE IS NOT A SCARY RETURNER, BUT HE DOES NOT MUFF THEM AND IS CONSISTENT.  WHEN HE MUST GOINTO THE GAME AS BACKUP, HE GETS IT DONE BY HOOK OR BY CROOK.

- Matt Ammendola was decent as he was 2/3 in FG and 2/2 in XP.  But with his leg strength
he needs to have a better attempt on the 54 yarder he missed.

THE MAN HAS SOME LEG. 

- What a pleasure to only see the Jet punter ONCE all game as Tom Morstead generated a

THEY RALLIED AROUND PRIDE AND EACH OTHER. 

- Fantastic early stand by them after the first INT as they stopped CIN four times and
prevented them from scoring.

THIS STAND AFFECTED THE ENTIRE TEAM.  EVEN AT 1-5 AND ZACH GONE FOR WEEKS I COULD FEEL THE SHIFT IN MOMENTUM. 

- Nice return by CJ Mosley as he had 10 Tackles and a TFL.  With Mosley and Jarrad Davis
making his debut, the defense was able to play an extremely "light box" (6 men) and limit
CIN to 16 rushes for 41 yards.  

A FANTASTIC OBSERVATION.  WE DID INDEED PLAY 6 MAN FRONTS AND DARE THEM TO RUN IT.  THEY RAN, WE SLAMMED.   MOSELY WAS CLEARLY ON HIS GAME AND DAVIS WAS A GREAT FIT.   IT CHANGED THE DEFENSE AND ALLOWED OUR INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS YOUNG SECONDARY TO ROAM FREELY BECAUSE MOSELY AND DAVIS FILLED THE GAPS.  ALL OF THEM CAN TACKLE.

I WILL STICK UP FOR THE SCOUTING REPORT ON ZUNIGA.  IT WAS CLEAR THAT HE CAN TRANSLATE SPEED TO POWER AND WE SAW IT ON THAT PLAY.  HE HAS THAT UNIQUE CLOSING BURST FOR SUCH A LARGE MAN.  HIS WEAKNESS IS HIS SMALL CALVES AND ANKLES.  WHEN HEALTHY, HE SHOULD BE A HANDFUL.  HE HAS NEVER BEEN HEALTHY BEFORE.  IT IS WHY HE GOT CUT.

I FOUND THIS TO BE THE BIGGEST SURPRISE.  THERE IS NO SUGAR COATING IT.  THE PATRIOTS BLEW US OFF THE BALL AND EMBARRASSED US.  GUYS WENT DOWN FOR THE COUNT.

RANKINS WAS IN THE BACKFIELD ALL  GAME.  WILLIAMS WAS A BEAR.  THE LINEBACKERS MADE SUCH A DIFFERENCE BUT OUR DTS WON THEIR BATTLE HANDILY YESTERDAY.

HE IS A CAGEY VETERAN.  I SEE LITTLE PASS RUSH AND HE GETS CAUGHT INSIDE TOO OFTEN.  BUT HE COMPETES AND THAT WAS THE PLAY OF THE GAME.  A FLUKE?  PERHAPS.  BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO TIP IT AND CATCH IT.  HE EARNED HIS PAY FOR THE SEASON.

MC2 HAS STARTER WRITTEN ALL OVER HIM.  TOUGHER THAN HIS SIZE INDICATES, HE IS A STICKY COVER MAN WITH EXCELLENT TACKLING SKILLS.  THE SEASON HAS BEEN A DEBACLE.  HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE SEEN THIS ROOKIE GET SMOKED?  FACE IT.  HE BELONGS AND IS PART OF THE LONG TERM SOLUTION.

AVT HAS BEEN AS ADVERTISED.  BUT IT IS BRANDON ECHOLS WHO IS THE STAR OF THIS DRAFT.  YES, MC2 LOOKS BETTER AT TIMES AND WE HAVE SEEN ECHOLS BEATEN.  BUT ECHOLS IS THE STARTER ON THE OUTSIDE.  ECHOLS HAS TO COVER THE MONSTERS OF THE NFL, NOT THE SLOT GUYS.  FURTHER, THE JETS DO NOT SWAP CORNERS TO FEATURE HALL.  THE BIG TOUGH MATCHUPS HAVE COME ECHOLS WAY ALL YEAR AND HE IS HOLDING HIS OWN.  WHILE THE ZACH WILSON SELECTION WILL DETERMINE THE VALUE IN THIS DRAFT, WE FOUND A PAIR OF CORNERS AND WE GOT THEM CHEAP.

I SHOUT OUT TO GUIDRY WHO ALSO PLAYS WHEN WE GO TO THE DIME.  THE BENGALS ARE A WHALE OF AN ASSIGNMENT.  WE BEAT THEM WITH JETSOM AND FLOTSOM.  TWO 5THS, A 6TH AND AN UDFA.  AND PEOPLE ARE ON JOE'S CASE.  NOT ME.

Offense

- Excellent game by the OLine particularly in pass protection, Mike White was kept spotless
in the pocket.  And Michael Carter was effective running the ball.

THERE IS NO DENYING IT.  WE SAW IT.  WHITE WAS THE REASON.  IT WAS SOBERING.

- Speaking of Michael Carter he was dynamic in all phases as he racked up 172 total yards and
a TD (15 rushes / 77 yards / TD and 9 recs / 95 yards).  Carter's "contact balance" is outrageous,
as he constantly shakes off tacklers keeps his feet and picks up additional yardage.

WE ALSO FEATURED HIM.  A FIRST IMO.  HE GOT THE LIONS SHARE OF THE SNAPS.  IT WAS AN OUTSTANDING GAME AND HE WAS THE PLAYER IN THE DRAFT GUIDE YESTERDAY.  THE PASS CATCHING CAN MAKE HIM INTO A #1 BACK IF ONLY HE CAN IMPROVE IN PASS PROTECTION.  TREMENDOUS GAME.

- Ty Johnson contributed heavily in the passing game as he had 5 recs / 71 yards and a TD.

PARCELLS LIKED TO SAY THAT "YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO STICK YOUR FACE IN THE FAN".  JOHNSON HAS SHOWN THAT HE INTENDS TO LEAVE NOTHING ON THE TABLE WHEN THE CLOCK EXPIRES.  HE RAN AND PLAYED HARD.

- Jamison Crowder and Elijah Moore provided reliable underneath options for Mike White all day.
Crowder recovered from his fumble and had 8 recs / 84 yards.  While Elijah Moore had 6 recs /
67 yards.

THEY HAD THE NUMBERS BUT THE SNAPS TOLD A DIFFERENT STORY.  THE STARTING TRIO OF MIMS, COLE AND CROWDER ABSORBED SSOME 70% OF THE SNAPS.  THE RUNNING GAME BENEFITED FROM PLAYING PROTOTYPE RECEIVERS AT THEIR PROPER POSITIONS.  WHILE MOORE HAD HIS BEST GAME LETS NOT FORGET THAT HE ALSO GOT THE FEWEST % OF SNAPS AS COMPARED TO PREVIOUS GAMES.  YES.  HE GOT BENCHED.  MOORE'S GAME WAS OFF THE BENCH.  I THINK THE COACH WAS RIGHT TOO.  HE DOES NOT BELONG ON THE OUTSIDE AT THIS STAGE OF HIS CAREER.  MAYBE ONE DAY.  BUT DO NOT FORGET YOUR PARCELLS: "YOU CANNOT COMPROMISE YOUR PROTOTYES".  WE PLAYED PROTOTYPES SIZED GUYS OUTSIDE YESTERDAY AND IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN OUR WIDE ZONE RUNNING GAME AND IN THE DUMP OFF GAME INSIDE TO MC1 AND THE TIGHT ENDS.  IT WAS ONE OF THE BIS CHANGES WE SAW YESTERDAY.

MOORE HAD A GREAT GAME.  ESPECIALLY SINCE HE ONLY GOT SOME 35% OF THE SNAPS.   IT TRULY BODES WELL FOR HIM.  HOW MANY GUYS DISAPPEAR WHEN THEY ARE UP AGAINST IT.  MOORE ANNOUNCED THAT HE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY.

CROWDER CONTINUES HIS CAREER.  SAME GUY.  JUST A DEADLY SLOT GUY.

- Now let's deal with the multiple "elephants in the room", Mike White changed the offense
entirely:

 * Even though he never started before, his experience in the league (drafted in 2018) allowed
   him to run the LaFleur/SF offense efficiently.  

I WILL GO FURTHER.  HE RAN IT PERIOD.  IT WAS THE FIRST TIME WE SAW THAT OFFENSE.

As was said in the post game press conferences
   LaFleur called multiple deep shots early in the game.  But White showed an "inner clock" and
   came off of those progressions when he knew they weren't there and went to intermediate
   receivers or check downs.  

THIS IS SO TRUE.  MOREOVER, WHITE'S BALL HANDLING IN THE BACKFIELD LOOKED PRACTICED.  I REMARKED ON IT LAST WEEK WHEN WATCHING THE GAME.  WHITE HAS USED HIS TIME IN THE LEAGUE TO MASTER THE LITTLE THINGS.  IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL GAME AND I DETEST BEING NEGATIVE BUT I HAVE TO SAY IT.

MIKE WHITE IS THE FIRST JET QB SINCE CHAD WHO:

1.   PROPERLY SETS HIS FEET WHEN THROWING. 

2.   HAS WORKED ON AND HAS A PROFESSIONAL PLAY ACTION FAKE.

3.   UNDERSTANDS THAT SCREENS MUST BE SET UP AND THE BALL THROWN IN FRONT OF THE RECEIVER.

4.   DOES NOT LOCK IN AND TELEGRAPH HIS PASSES - THE USUAL CAUSE OF THE PICK 6.

5.   KNOWS THAT DUMP OFFS ARE TIMING BASED AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO DUMP OFF DIMINISHES THE LONGER YOU HOLD THE BALL.

6.   UNDERSTANDS THAT SNAPS CAN BE TAKEN UNDER CENTER AND NOT JUST IN THE SHOTGUN.

7.   UNDERSTANDS THAT THE READ OPTION REQUIRES BALL TRICKERY.

I COULD GO ON A RANT ABOUT HOW SUCH A SIMPLE LIST OF THINGS COULD BE FORGOTTEN FOR SO LONG.  I WON'T.

WHITE GAVE ME THE DISTINCT IMPRESSION THAT HE HAS WORKED ON HIS GAME AND RECEIVED SOLID COACHING SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE.  I WOULD CREDIT THE NEW STAFF BUT WHERE WAS THIS WITH ZACH?   

This allowed for the offense to keep "moving the chains" and never
   getting into 3rd and longs.

 * Another benefit of White not staying on the deep shots in his progression was he got rid of
   the ball quickly and made the OLine not sustain blocks for too long.  

BOTH VAN ROTEN AND EVEN EDOGA LOOKED OK YESTERDAY.  THINK ABOUT THAT.  AVT TOOK REVENGE ON SOME OF THE RUNNING PLAYS.

The trait White displayed
   yesterday is one of Zach Wilson's biggest issues.  Wilson (so far) looks for the "sexy shot" and
   doesn't come off of it, leading him to scramble and taking risks down field.  Against TEN it
   worked 4-5 times and they were able to win, but I remember saying it would be hard to sustain
   an offense based on "off script" deep shots.

I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY EVIDENCE THAT ZACH HAS A PROFESSIONAL GAME.  HE HAS THE SHARPEST ARM WE HAVE HAD SINCE FAVRE AND VINNY.  BUT THE LITTLE THINGS TURN TALENT INTO SUCCESS.   HE CAN LEARN A LOT FROM MIKE WHITE ON HOW TO  GET BETTER.  LIKE ELIJAH MOORE HE MAY ON DAY BE THE STARTER.  BUT HE MUST EARN IT.  THE SCOUTING REPORT SAID HE NEEDED TO SIT FOR A YEAR.  SAID THE SAME ABOUT MAHOMES.  IT'S CORRECT.

ZACH WILSON NEEDS TO DEVELOP A PROFESSIONAL GAME.  UNTIL THEN HE IS A TALENTED KID WITH A LOT TO LEARN.  I SAW SO LITTLE ADVANCEMENT FROM DARNOLD.   WILSON WAS SO UNPREPARED I WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN.  HOPEFULLY SOMEBODY WITH THE JETS FRONT OFFICE UNDERSTANDS WHAT THEY SAW YESTERDAY.

- As far as the rest of the season, if White continues to impress I would keep Wilson on the bench
and make him earn the starting spot.  It would be totally unfair to the rest of the roster to just
hand the spot back to Wilson, they deserve to stay enthusiastic and try to win as many games as 
possible.  

I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE TEAM OBJECTED - ESPECIALLY THE OFFENSIVE LINE.

The offense looked different and some of that was on White but some of it looks to be a different approach from the offensive coaching staff. I don't know if LaFleur lacks confidence in Wilson to call from the booth or feels he needs to force Wilson to learn to be a different QB with the play calls but from now on that is how the offense needs to run both on the field and the sideline.

Agree...and there's nothing wrong with sitting ZW for awhile and giving White a nice, long look.  Maybe Cincy just laid an egg, playing way too soft, looking ahead to next week, or maybe not. Maybe once the league gets more tape on White, it'll figure him out.  But, lets see.

ZW should have been sitting the first few games anyways....JD and Saleh screwed this up, so Wilson' injury may be a blessing.

Yesterday was the first game all year the offense came out and actually attacked the other team’s defense, rather than running plays and trying to execute a particular play or run the route tree.  It was the best use of the speed of the rbs all year as well.

Some of the issues with the oline not knowing what their assignments were have nothing to do with Wilson´s release. Everybody saw multiple times in which immediately after the snap that defenders just ran past multiple olinemen engaged with 1 defender.

Understated but worth noting Van Roten actually didn’t suck today for the first time all season and look what happened. 
 

this doesn’t give me confidence that Van Roten is turning it around but more so gives us an idea of what the offense can look like when we don’t have a turnstile in the interior of our line. There were many yesterday saying, while it was a good win, White would never amount to much because he couldn't throw a deep ball, and when he did once, he overthrew the receiver.,

Amazing when you actually look at what he did do right, it was actually the right thing to do!

This 100% was by far the biggest difference other than the QB. The Tight Ends weren't completely awful either. 

Not that it explains the transformation but it helps when the players actually execute simple tasks.

Michael Carter is turning into my favorite Jets RB since Leon Washington. Fun, dynamic player to watch.

Our best player on offense is AVT.  Hands down.  Focusing on him is a revelation.  He is playing at an All Pro Level.  He was so involved in all of Michael Carter's runs.  He has great mobility and awareness and walls off zones.  Looks like a home run first round pick. 

Our best player on defense is CJ Mosley.  I couldn't wait to get rid of this guy's contract before this season and was so pissed this Mac left over sat out last year extending his time with the Jets by a year before we could cut him.  At the time Mac overpaid but now ILB salaries have caught up to his and he is absolutely worth it.  It's a different defense when he's on the field.  A general out there, savvy and still physically one of the most talented LBers in the league.  

Zach sitting out could absolutely be a blessing in disguise if he learns from Mike White how this offense should be run.  Zach has 5 times the ceiling Mike has so realistically I don't see a QB battle no matter how well White plays.  But yesterday we saw what a well oiled machine this offense can be if the QB simply takes what the defense gives him, is decisive and gets the ball out quick - and gets everybody involved early and often.

The reason we didn't see White get sacked a lot was mostly because he was so decisive.  When the pocket was collapsing he threw some great balls; thinking of that TD pass to Berrios and the one to Kroft, both times he had guys in his face and hung in and threw accurate balls under duress.  O-Line played better but White made them look good being so quick to throw.

Bryce Hall may be a top 10 CB in this league. 

Ashtyn Davis is starting now, and is up and down.  You see the athletic traits but not the confidence to go full speed and decide to be great.  I get that he is still very inexperienced but if he takes the brakes off and becomes more decisive he could make a lot more impact plays.  He needs to fly up faster in run support, it feels like he's waiting for other guys to make the play.  He has to choose to BECOME THE GUY.  Also the one deep post completed was in his cover 2 zone where Maye trailed the guy from the other deep half, he has to diagnose that play faster.   Hoping this improves with experience because the physical talent is there.  He's got a thin frame and has to make sure he lines up his guy, takes proper angles and tackles low.

It should be noted that Zach has played significantly better when the Jets are in 10 and 11 personnel but LaFleur kept forcing the 12 and 22 sets early in games which puts Zach in a bad situation and leads to lots of obvious passing downs. In yesterdays game LaFleur did not do that and from the fist snap ran a more spread out offense with 10 and 11 personnel. Also he clearly adjusts better seeing the game from the booth. But White was also terrific yesterday as was much of the team.  Our corner play especially Hall and MC2 continues to astound. We need better safeties though Ashtyn played well but we are at a minimum "solid" at CB with Hall showing signs of becoming elite and MC2 really being a complete player. That is without mentioning that Guidry is a really solid player and Echols is rapidly ascending. We should get the forgotten Kyle Phillips back soon which will help in the run game. The impact of having Jarrad Davis back was noticeable. MC1 having a complete break out game was exciting. 

Who would have thought though that Mike White would put up arguably the best QB first start in NFL History. Sort of validates the QB strategy a little. I liked White coming out he was very good in the Senior Bowl

I think we're starting to get a glimpse of what this defense can be under Saleh.  They've dealt with both injuries and inexperience over the first third of the season but with key guys coming back and multiple games of experience for the rookies this unit will be much better over the final months of the season.  CJ Mosley isn't cheap but he's the most important player on the D, much more critical than QW, Hall or anyone else IMO.  Suddenly the Jets do feel like they're possibly one stud Edge rusher and a solid OLB away from being a Top 10-ish defense.... and that OLB could already be on the roster with injured guys like Sherwood and Nasirildeen.

My mind is trying to wrap itself around the idea that this team went from a horrible loss to the mediocre Patriots where people were calling for the Jets to fire Saleh and Douglas to suddenly considering the possibility that this is a young, talented, up-and-coming team with not one, but two QBs capable of starting with upside.  It's truly bizzaro world, man.
