The Coming Test

I was on the mountain and saw the oracle and drank the vapors. The keeper of the Jets Mysteries sent me with a message for you to be mindful of:

1. The Bengals had no tape of the Mike White / Press Box LaFleur / no Corey Davis and could not gameplan. They had no idea what White would do, his tendencies, LaFleur’s, etc. Maybe they thought after the two 1st half INTs and their taking the lead into the half, “we got this”, and didn’t think they needed to adjust their soft zone scheme.

2. The Bengals played soft zone all day and never adjusted, content to keep everything in front of them. I saw a stat that MW did not complete a pass that traveled over 15 yards in the air. It was noted that LaFleur called early deep shots but that MW opted for the underneath dink and dunk. He got the ball out quick, his guys were basically open, and they had the YAC. This is Pennington ball 2.0. Even pre-injury Pennington, which was fun but once he was exposed he was a handicap.

3. The two deep balls MW threw were his worst. They were terrible. Elijah Moore on a 40 yard downfield throw and the swing pass to Carter that he misread the zone coverage as man and should have been his third INT. If he can’t improve his deep ball, expect teams to exploit it, starting Thursday.

Teams going forward will tighten up their zones, mix their coverages, move to man, press man, off man, and make MW beat them deep.

The Mike White euphoria vapors have Jet Nation uncontrollably giddy like a sorority party edibles overdose. Jet Nation is now teed up for the coming crash, which is predictable. Not if, but when. This is the script, to bring you back in, drink the vapors to get crushed. Buy the hype after one game at your own risk. Mike White is already a legend after one game but it will be impossible to match the performance in the long run and the magic we just saw. Because it was so impossible. That’s statistically reliable. Only question is where and how hard the landing. If we can manage the turbulence, stabilize, and touch back down on the runway with fuselage intact with out crash landing, that will be new.

If Mike White breaks the trend, he will have broken the wheel, and the curse, so speaks the oracle.

The whole world will be watching. The real test begins Thursday Primetime. This will be fun.

Indy is on a very short week playing Sunday night... It's not like they really have enough time or tape on white to be the measuring stick you are looking for. The true test would be Buffalo.

Yeah the Colts will be a reality check. They have one of the most stacked rosters in the league and are probably the biggest underachievers.

They’ve lost a few heartbreaker and their season is on the line. They’ll destroy the Jets.

High drama. Playoff atmosphere. Three days to gameplan.

It won’t take more than 10 seconds of watching film to come up with a plan for Michael Carter and to understand that re coverage schemes — don’t play vanilla zone.

Because Mike White eats vanilla zone with rainbow sprinkles for breakfast

If it was that easy they why didn't the bungles make an easy change after the first few drives or at half time... Your simplification of Football is astounding...

You must be tons of fun at parties

As I said, this party is a white claw sorority rager.

It’s like you are all cumming in your pants like a bunch of 13 year olds because you got to second base and touched a tit.

Exactly. They didn’t make any adjustments. And Mike white in his first start tied Cam Newtons record. The Bengals refused to adjust and Mike White who was let go three times put up HOF numbers.
They also had no tape to prepare from to begin with.

Bullsh*t the Bengals were a top 10 defense and are a much better team then the colts

Dont believe in White Lightning? That’s ok. But be ready to get struck Thursday night

A healthy dose of realism is in order. Sure, totally, be positive. Let’s not go overboard here yet until more just a little more information comes in. Like a few games.

Has anyone even watched our road games this year?

Colts are 10.5 favourites for a reason. They’re winning by double that.

I hate to say it and I do not want to believe it, but vegas is begging you to take the Jets.  This is a total sucker bet.  Vegas believes the jets are getting railroaded on Thursday.

Micheal Carter NOT Mike White was the star of this game.   Unless youre a Matt Jones 8 yard buttonhook, HB dump off fan.  The Colts have a very good defense.  They will not allow what we did to Bengals.  It was as embarrasing to them as to what the Pats did to us.

LOL This aint pee wee football. Its the NFL. They started scheming the moment the game was over. And it s not really hard to scheme Mike White. He thew 45 times and about 38 of the throws were for 5 yards or less. But yea ok he threw for 405 yards LOL Not taking any credit away from the kid BUT lets temper it down until he can make a throw over 25 yards...in the air.

You compare it to an important first for a 13-year old.  Well, it had been 21 years since the last 400+ yard game out of a Jet QB.  And in that last 400-yard game, Vinny Testaverde attempted 69 passes, threw 3 picks, had a 66.1 QB Rating and the team lost, 34-20.

So, yeah, I can understand the euphoria.

Totally. It’s a vicious circle though. I’m ecstatic, trying to be realistic. Everyone really needs some healthy skepticism until it is firmly established over a period of time. Otherwise, it’s just vapors.

Nothing we say here influences what happens on the field.  Might as well dream big.  Why not?  It's more fun thinking for a few days that Mike White may well be Lou Gehrig to Zach Wilson's Wally Pipp than just waiting for the disaster that may well come on Thursday night.

The key to Thursday is the continued strong performances from both lines. White had plenty of time yesterday to work (he helped by getting rid of the ball, but we were able to run consistently, properly set up screens, etc.).

If the line keeps improving like this we will be in better shape for Ws whether with White or a healthy Zach down the line and healthy competition under center is rich people problems for us.
