jetstream23
Just watched the press conference. Without using the actual words Saleh seemed to indicate that Maye was done. That sucks.
Beerfish
Bad to hear but he did stink badly today and for a lot of this year.
slimjasi
bummer, but that defense can't get any lower after tonight. They have given up 133 points in the last 3 games. I mean . . . yea

Popular Post Icer
Hate to see it right before he hits FA. That injury, lackluster play this year, plus his age--he wont cash in with that second big contract. Should have taken the Jets offer last year

Popular Post David Harris
Too late to trade him? sorry sorry Feel bad for Marcus, he pulled a Leon Washington though. Bet on himself but the NFL can blow you up anytime. Glad he got the franchise money so 10 mill he’s set for life. I know the dui stuff but overall I liked him as a dude and as a player. But he’ll be about 31 coming off an Achilles injury when he returns in 2023. Bad sitch for him. His dick agent must be apoplectic.

Patriot Killa
Welp, tonight was the last time you see Maye in a Jets uniform. He’ll go on season ending IR, get surgery, walk in FA at 30 years old coming off an extremely serious injury and he’ll sign a sh*tty prove it deal with a contender. Best of luck to em’. His big pay day will now never come.
ScarletKnight89
I feel bad for him. This guy has played hard for the team since 2017. He was in a contract dispute with the Jets, he made a mistake off the field, but he's been a Jet for a while and has been a good player. This sucks for him having this injury while he is an impending free agent.

JohnnyLV
Could be career ending for Maye. No one is going to sign him next season, and then he will be a 30 year old safety coming off a mediocre at best season and an achilles injury. He was a decent player, banged up a lot. Prodigal Syndicate
That sucks, hate to see injuries to any player. He wasnt having a good year and has likely played his last game as a Jet.
Maxman
Maybe taking two safeties in that draft wasn't the right thing to do. I do feel terrible for Maye. I commend Douglas for not giving him top $, Maye over played his hand. Good Jet though, I actually hope he works out a way to be back here next year. Nice veteran leader just isn't a top safety.
Buffalo 24 7
This is why I hate when the franchise tag is used in bad faith. It's also why I don't blame players looking out for themselves. Maye made it known he didn't want to be tagged, because he knew with his age, this was his only chance for a big long term deal. The Jets tagged him anyway when Douglas probably had no plans of retaining him past this year at a number they both would agree with. Now Maye will likely miss an entire year, and will be worth pennies on the market as an old Safety coming off injury. Meanwhile Jamal Adams went scorched earth and is now the highest paid safety in the NFL.

It's meant to extend the window in which teams and players can negotiate. Some players are fine with the tag, but Maye publicly stated he wasn't. Some front offices just use it to take players hostage for 1 year. I remember when the Panthers tagged Josh Norman, and when they realized they weren't close in numbers, they rescinded the tag and let him test the market.
