Leon Hess -- Indifferent, he's really before my time.

Herm -- I remember pieces of his era fondly, but I think overall I'd say negative. It's hard not to feel like he squandered some talented teams even if he seems like a good guy.

Parcells -- Positive. Best Jets coach of my lifetime and set the table for the most successful era of Jets football since Weeb. I don't think you can blame him for Belichick going to the Pats, as unfortunate as that was.

Bowles -- Good DC, not a good head coach. I think with a talented roster he could succeed to a certain degree but with Mac he had no shot.

Rex -- Got to be "it's complicated." The highest of highs, the lowest of lows. Took a talented team deep in the playoffs twice, doesn't get enough blame for the deterioration of the roster.

Joe Douglas -- Still optimistic, but that is waning for sure.

Leon Hess cared about what happened to theJets and how they were perceived. my thought is that he was too much a puppet to the NFL league office, and kowtowed to them too much. He should have been more a maverick, like when he pilfered Parcells.

Herm Edwards, in the parade of coaches that have followed Parcells has probably been the best. His teams were disciplined, had positive turnover ratios and battled for him. His antics probably wore thin, and the game management was a real problem.

Bill Parcells took us to the brink of what many Jet fans had never seen-Respectability. The way he bungled the hand off the team is criminal. The man in the glass ended foolishly.

Todd Bowles I am sure is a nice guy, but just does not have the charisma to lead men of an entire team.

Rex Ryan gave us a couple of fun years, but those moments always seemed to be create a watching with your hands over your eyes, because you felt like it was a circus. And he brought a clownish atmosphere that exists still today. he always wanted to be the story.

Joe Douglas scores an incomplete. There is some better young talent on this squad that has not seen itself around here for a long time. Hopefully that creates a foundation. I hope his downfall is not in his hiring of coaches, and while not certain on Saleh, I wish Douglas had created  a couple of more veteran coaches into the team to resonate more.

Just the mention of Leon Hess's name makes my blood boil.

He trusted incompetent people all the time.  Always reluctant to make big changes at the top, so we were stuck with terrible FO for most of his ownership period.

And the one time he finally made a bold big change...  he pulled the trigger on Pete Caroll and replaced him with Rich Kotite.  That alone set the franchise back a decade.  Even though he wasn't here long.

RIP Leon.  You meant well.

Now lets go Jets and don't be horses asses out there this week.

Hess is before my time. I have positive views of Rex, Herm, and Parcells. Another guy who gets bashed a lot but i have positive views of is Trader Mike.

It’s too early to judge Joe Douglas.

I don’t know what Bowles is as a HC. He could have been a victim of a poor environment or he could be a terrible HC. He’ll get another HC job and we will find out if he can be a good HC.

A decade?  How do you figure?  The 2 years of Kotite were followed immediately after by Bill Parcells.  If Hess could've stayed alive, I think there's a good chance Belichick would've been ours.

I still remember the day they broke the news that they were hiring Richie as if it were yesterday. The top of my list for the most depressing day as a Jet fan. What most outside of the the Jets world did not know was Kotite was a coach under Walton and became assistant head coach. He was as inneffective under Walton as he was on his won. We finally fire Walton and we are done with these guys only to have Kotite come back after failing on his won in Philly. Someone posted it yesterday in another thread - the most Jetsy of the moves in at least my 50+ years.

Hess - Before my time - Indifferent.

Parcells - See above.

Herm - Indifferent - About as much good as there is bad - I like him more now than I did then having seen how bad it can get. He had some charm to him.

Bowles - Negative - Good DC but was just completely lifeless and looked out of his depth with the extra responsibility.

Rex - Positive - The best of all the humans.

Douglas - Negative - Way more misses than hits. Three years in and we're worse than when he came.

i voted parcells and ryan as complicated.  parcells is just too much of a carpetbagger.  he leaves the jets, takes a year off and then coaches the cowgirls.  he could have stayed with the jets and, who knows, maybe bellichicken stays too.  as for ryan, he had jet blood running through his veins but just influenced the draft picks too much.  funny how he couldn't get along with idzik who also had some jet blood.  his father was oc under michaels in the 70's.  maybe rex tormented idzik as a child.

the rest of the guys i chose indifferent.  herm had a bad gm in bradway but did make the playoffs.  bowles had a bad gm in mac.  nothing more to say.  and hess was a hands off owner.  he stepped in to hire kotite but then he also stepped in to get parcells.

You have to wonder how much of both BP and BB leaving was Woody.  BP probably felt obligated to the franchise to stabilize things before he left.  BB was still considered a question mark at HC at that point and he already had a not great run with the Browns.  He knew it might have been his last chance to get a HC job and he didn't want to mess around with that opportunity by wasting it with the idiot Johnson Brothers.

3. Bill Parcells - It's complicated.

4. Todd Bowles - It wasn't his fault. Sorry Todd.

6. Joe Douglas - I'm pessimistic. Record: 4-22 and  MOV -13.7

Hess I put indifferent on. He was considered to be a good owner by many NFL coaches but when he did interfere and fired Pete Carroll he hired Kotite and that was a disaster. I liked Herm personally thought he did an OK job as Jets HC didn't like his exit when he went to KC. I voted indifferent on him. Parcells got my only positive I thought he positively turned around this franchise. Rex got my only negative I know he got us to the AFC championship two times but his personality and baggage isn't worth it. Bowles I personally liked as a leader but I put wasn't a good HC because he wasn't. Our defense was terrible under Todd and like Saleh he is a D specialist. He's doing well with TB and will get another HC job soon and probably there will be improvement. Douglas undecided but his two years as GM have been among the worst in Jets history you can't blame that all on his predecessors like Macc he's had time to change the roster and he inherited some good players. He also hired Saleh and that isn't looking so good so far. And it was really Gase who brought him on board.  The smartest thing he did was sign a multi year deal he will get paid (like the others and there are many) after he gets fired.

Hess.  Negative - move to jersey, unilaterally firing Carroll and hiring Kotite while GM Dick Steinberg was recovering from cancer..

Herm.  Lovable. Loved his passion and what I would happily settle for 3 playoff appearrances in the next 5 years.

Parcells.  Positive.  Took a 1-15 disaster and brought the franchise credibility.  Fell short of ultimate goal, but more good than bad with Parcells.

Bowles.  Not a good HC.  Great DC and seems like a genuine good guy -- just not a good head coach.

Ryan.  Its complicated.  OK, maybe its not so complicated.  Fat Rex - good.  Thin Rex bad.

Douglas.  Undecided.  I was firmly in his corner at start of season, but now, I am not so sure.  I need to see more from his team over the remainder of this year and next.

OK.  But 4 years of bad (plus an additional 2 years of bad in Buffalo) outweighs 2 years of good.  Anyone who still has positive views of Rex Ryan in 2021 is also a loser.

In his defense he did mention "Fat Rex".  :)

It's akin to "in the booth" LaFleur.

as i recall, woody cozied up to krafty to learn how to run the team.  i don't know if he did before he purchased the team but if he did there were certainly grounds for krafty sowing some bad seeds about parcells to woody.  same thing with the bellichicken.

Rex Ryan was a ******* terrorist inside the walls of Florham Park and his reign of idiocy and bushwacking is a big reason the Jets still suck to this very day.

Before there can be a rebuild, there must be a demolition. Maybe Rex is the right man for the job.

It’s all relative until someone better comes along, I like Rex.

Got three GMs fired in a five year span. Amazing speed.

Plus he fired Greg Roman following Week 2 of the 2016 season.  Roman had engineered a top 10 offense with Tyrod Taylor at QB the season prior.  And that week they'd put up 31 points of offense.  Rex's defense allowed 37.

That was arguably peak Rex right there, and no one ever talks about it.

But Rex Ryan wasn't actually all that much better than the coaches that came after him.  Yeah, his defensive schemes with a loaded roster were nice for a bit.  Then the league figured him out.  And he took that loaded roster and tore it apart.  Then, in Buffalo, he took a defensive unit that was top-5 under Jim Schwartz and produced results outside of the top 20.  In the end he was a sub-.500 coach (46-50 in NY, 61-66 overall) just like all our other HC's.

The idea isn't to look back at Rex Ryan with longing, yearning, or positive feelings.  The idea is to be pissed that the best we can do at HC over a 2 decade period was Rex f**king Ryan.
