Lith
What a great afternoon / evening of baseball yesterday. Taking two from one of the best teams in the league. Coming back from 3 down in game 1, the great stretch by Alonso to keep the game tied in the 10th. Clutch walk-off hit by Lindor. Bullpen getting big outs in both games. Great start by Scherzer om the nightcap. And an actual doubleheader with 9 inning games. Its early, but this team is fun to watch.
Scott Dierking
It is rare when a starting pitcher seems to have an effect on an entire ball club. Scherzer knew he needed to go at least 7 innings yesterday. With the double header, and injured starters, he knew that the team needed in innings not only to win yesterday, but allow them to have bullets to win in the next days, rather than a totally depleted staff. Megill fought yesterday also not only to keep them close, but to give them innings. Scherzer and Buck together have added true credibility to professionalism in this dugout. The zoo appears to be done. They seemingly have changed the culture. Let’s see if they can hold it together. BTW, the Bassitt signing seems to have given the staff the same kind of look that Bob Ojeda did with the ‘86 Mets. Bassitt is the right handed version of Ojeda. Someone that can throw all kinds of pitches, spot them, and still not afraid to spot the fastball. It is a great, different look from some of the other Met hard throwers. faba
Scherzer is the stabilizer and rock of this rotation can not say enough of Cohen going out and get him
32EBoozer
Team was a little bit lifeless yesterday.... maybe due to no Buck (kind of when you had a substitute teacher in school). Marte needs to better understand situational base running.
Rangers9
It looks like Eduardo Escobar is a productive professional hitter. I haven’t really followed his career but if he can avoid long slumps (not sure of his background on this) and is consistent offensively the Mets made a good signing just what they needed.

32EBoozer
No way I was staying up to 1:00 am but an ugly win is what good teams do. Peterson with another quality start. Matte staying aggressive and giving us the rbi late. McCann finally contributing and Nimmo continues to get on base and taking the extra base. Need to extend him this season on a fair deal. Committee pitching effort today. Trevor Williams starts and Mets hope he can eat up some innings.

Throw away game last night. Needed to keep starters on 5 days rest. Now we have Sherzer, Brandon and Corrasco lined up with Walker coming back this week and deGrom getting ready to start throwing again from a mid-late May return.

Sean Reid-Foley pitched well in long relief and the bullpen collectively held the fort after that for the most part, but the Mets were never able to overcome the initial deficit. The Mets plated two runs in the fifth to get within two runs, but Adam Ottavino gave up an insurance run to widen the gap and despite threatening in the later innings on multiple occasions, the Mets failed to come back. Ahead of yesterday’s game, the Mets recalledRHP Adonis Medina from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned David Peterson. However, Peterson will be back with the Mets sooner rather than later with a doubleheader against the Braves at Citi Field scheduled for May 3. “He’s earned the right to be back and I think he understands why we had to do [the roster move],” Buck Showalter said. “It’s never fun, especially when a guy is pitching as well as Pete is and the way things line up and the potential of Taijuan rejoining us, it helps our ball club.” Jacob deGrom underwent testing on Friday on his injured shoulder and doctors are still “evaluating the results.” The expectation is that the Mets will not know anything until tomorrow. If things look good, deGrom will be cleared to begin throwing.

Really, you have to give a bullpen 4o games to figure out what you truly have. Already, just in the Mets pen, we have seen wild fluctuations of performances in individual relievers. This was an off spring, with less ramp up time than normal. That affects relievers the most. Right now the Mets are smack dab in the middle (15th) in mlb bullpen ERA (6th in the NL), and 15th in MLB bullpen WHIP. Let it play out, and then see which teams may be sellers around deadline time. Although there may be fewer sellers because of more playoff eligible teams. Real interesting decision coming up this week as rosters get reduced by 2 players. Mets NEED to cut Cano. Will be eating a lot of money there. Jankowski is needed in the outfield and played well.

Scott Dierking
Just now, section314 said: Agreed, I'm shocked they didn't just eat the salary and send him packinga long time ago. Well, if he could have shown some continued baseball skill, they could have eaten 95% of the salary and trade him for a usable part. He actually has looked like a good clubhouse presence. Maybe some young team would take a flyer on him and use him as a platform for their younger players to emulate. I doubt that happens.

JagsFanJif
That was ******* epic. Typically I turn it off once the blown save happens but for some reason, I kept watching. 2 out rallying, 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th?
