Very interesting coaching carousel with Notre Dame and OU open.

If Notre Dame is smart they go to Cincinnati, hand Luke Fickell a signed blank check and tell him, "fill it in."  Fickell would take ND to heights Kelly had no chance of ever taking them.

Kelly has the most wins in ND history, and yet never sniffed a title. ANy ND coach has an in recruiting across the country. Kelly added nothing to that. How does LSU sell this? Good luck with that.

Kelly could never develop a QB- it was always his downfall.

Come to think of it, he'd be perfect for the Jets.

Kelly got the Irish to the national championship and CFB playoff multiple times. He did a great job at ND. Keep in mind what he inherited as ND was a disaster between Holtz and Kelly.

Also Ian Book was a great college QB.

Anyone else been to ND? South Bend?

Probably 100 prettier campuses in the country and South Bend is a sh*t hole.

Stayed in Chicago every time.

Doesn't everybody stay in Chicago then drive to South Bend?

There are a lot of sh*thole campuses with big football programs: Miami & USC come to mind immediately.

Yes- got them into the CFP a few times where they got the sh!t kicked out of them.  They never had to deal with the rigors of conference play like all the other teams.

Ian Book a "great" college QB??  Where?  division IAA?

Well next year was going to be his most talented team. Surprised he’s leaving, but ND needs to hire someone quickly before guys transfer.

F*cking bizarre in so many ways.

1- Why in God's name would LSU want Kelly, a mediocre coach?

2- Why does Kelly leave now with Notre Dame on he edge of making the CFP?

I’m not an ND fan but Kelly took a dead ND program and brought them back into relevance. You know who is an actual mediocre coach though? Coach O, and even he won a title at LSU because they can recruit so much talent.  Great hire for LSU

Why is that?  LSU just won a Natty and with playoff expansion coming the SEC could get 3-4 teams in the playoffs.

Orgeron won a natty and two years later is shown the door. That’s why it’s an impossible job.

Malzahn had a great run on the plains, but was nearly fired half a dozen times.

Those two schools (along with UF) want to compete for the playoff every year. It’s tough to do when Bama and now UGA are in your conference.

Orgeron was always known as a great recruiter.  That's why in large part you'd have a mass exodus of underclassmen leave LSU every year for the draft- i'm talking 9-10-11-12 underclassmen, and most got selected.  Notre Dame had what?  Three underclassmen leave on average?

Remind me again- how many titles has Kelly won at Notre Dame?  Oh, that's right

The last 3 coaches at LSU have won Natty’s.   Even in down years they still had some of the best recruiting classes.   Again, with the playoffs expanding, it’s hardly an impossible job.

Ridiculous statement- Les Miles won a title and was shown the door.  Chizik won a title and was shown the door.  Has little to do with Alabama or UGA- who were a mediocre program siz years ago.

It’s not impossible to win, but keeping that job for ten years will require a Saban, Smart, Urban, Carroll level consistency.

Riley seems to be a bit of a chicken to me.  Oh no! Oklahoma is going to a conference that actually plays defense!

Head for the hills!

I really wanted to see if he was going to have the same success with QB's in the SEC he had in the Big 12.  I tended to doubt it and now we'll never find out

Wasn’t Orgeron banging coeds? Or waitresses?

That’s why he was fired/separated, right?

For the same reason Kelly left LSU, Riley left OU.  Riley’s deal is 10 years around $11.5M per year with escalators for each season.  They bought him a house that’s about $6M and bought his house in OU for a half million over market value.

Carroll??  He committed all kinds of violations and BS or not, they had to vacate the national title they won and give back the Heisman Trophy awarded while he was HC.
