..4 pending NY Jets free agents that won't be back in 2022

The NY Jets have seen plenty of roster turnover since general manager Joe Douglas first joined the team prior to the start of the 2019 season.

The roster the team is left with now looks almost entirely different from the one that Douglas inherited with very few holdovers still contributing. This was always going to be the case given the state of the organization when Douglas assumed control. But just because plenty of roster upheaval has already taken place doesn't mean the team's work is over. Far from it, in fact.

The Jets have a number of soon-to-expire contracts on their books and it's unlikely they look to re-sign most of these players. Now, players like Folorunso Fatukasi, Mike White, and even Braxton Berrios could possibly return. The Jets might look to re-sign a handful of their pending free agents. But of the 23 players with expiring contracts, it's highly likely that the vast majority are looking for a new team next season. That makes putting together a list like this rather easy — there are plenty of obvious candidates to pick from.

With that being said, let's take a look at four pending free agents who are almost guaranteed not to return in 2022...

The most aggravating thing to happen to "news reports" is the advent of these lists that you have to keep clicking on to get an answer that is usually not even there nor is it news.

So if someone has more patience than I, print the names of the 4 guys please

I wouldn't be surprised or shocked if Crowder and Maye are back for at least one more year. I would equally not surprised or shocked if Crowder and Maye are both gone at the end of the year. However, I would be shocked if Nate Sheppard is still on the team in 2022.

I’d resign Berrios before Crowder. Brings similar production from the slot plus decent return ability. He and Moore would have the slot well covered. Shame about Maye’s injury, otherwise he may’ve landed the team a 2023 comp pick. But he was never coming back.

Main reason he’s not on the list is that no one else will be going after him unless @T0mShane or @Smashmouth gets a GM job this January.

A @T0mShane/ @Smashmouth football program would be a merit-based, politics-free environment where the best players play no matter where they were drafted. A Mike White 2021 Jets campaign would have been an inspirational joy to watch.

Yes, you could hire Eric Mangini and draft a RB in the top ten. The sweet smell of success.

don't want or need crowder back.  how many small, slot type receivers are needed?  between crowder, moore, berrios the jets must rank top 5 in smallest receiver rooms.

There's a stat for that!

Based on the information above, the following is a list of the total height accumulated across each team’s receiving group, and their average height (in inches):

  1. Green Bay Packers: 447.875 (74.65)
  2. Cincinnati Bengals: 444 (74)
  3. Denver Broncos: 443.375 (73.90)
  4. Dallas Cowboys: 441 (73.50)
  5. Los Angeles Chargers: 440.875 (73.48)
  6. Tennessee Titans: 438.5 (73.08)
  7. Minnesota Vikings: 438.25 (73.04)
  8. Carolina Panthers: 437.75 (72.96)
  9. Detroit Lions: 437.375 (72.90)
  10. Indianapolis Colts: 436.875 (72.81)
  11. New England Patriots: 436.125 (72.69)
  12. New Orleans Saints: 436 (72.67)
  13. Cleveland Browns: 435.75 (72.63)
  14. New York Jets: 435.625 (72.60)
  15. Pittsburgh Steelers: 435.625 (72.60)
  16. San Francisco 49ers: 435.25 (72.54)
  17. Jacksonville Jaguars: 434.875 (72.48)
  18. New York Giants: 434.625 (72.44)
  19. Atlanta Falcons: 433.375 (72.23)
  20. Philadelphia Eagles: 433.375 (72.23)
  21. Los Angeles Rams: 433.125 (72.19)
  22. Miami Dolphins: 432.75 (72.16)
  23. Washington Football Team: 432.625 (72.10)
  24. Baltimore Ravens: 432.375 (72.06)
  25. Kansas City Chiefs: 431.5 (71.92)
  26. Chicago Bears: 431.25 (71.88)
  27. Las Vegas Raiders: 430.875 (71.81)
  28. Arizona Cardinals: 429.875 (71.65)
  29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 429.875 (71.65)
  30. Seattle Seahawks: 425 (70.83)
  31. Houston Texans: 423.875 (70.65)
  32. Buffalo Bills: 422.25 (70.38)

Granted, this data was accumulated pre-season and only considered the anticipated top-6 pass catchers for each team. While Jets may be #14 in average WR height, they are one of only 6 teams with three dudes under 5'10.

If Crowder isn't re-signed, I'll have another circle for my in-progress Excuse Twister: Zach Wilson Edition.

You should find a different board game for Zach, like Monopoly or something. That would be interesting

Mac Jones is NOT Immobile where the hell are you people getting this ? Because he chooses to pass and not run does not make him Immobile. He moves very well in the Pocket and has a very good feel for the rush.

Lamar Jackson sure can run and is very Mobile only problem is he throws for 90 yards in games that count.

And FWIW the most Immobile QB in the NFL the past 20 years is now going to his 10th SB. Because he has a feel for the pocket and gets the ball out quick those are the traits that make him the best QB ever not his running ability

Just a glimpse of what might have been .  . . . . Sigh :(

All retaining Crowder does is stunt Moore's growth. Moore is a slot receiver with enormous potential. Crowder is a mediocre slot receiver.  Moving Moore outside to accommodate Crowder makes no sense. Playing Crowder outside the slot is not possible - he has never played anywhere else.  Crowder is not a luxury, he is just in the way.  Bye bye.

Interesting suggestion.... maybe The Hating Game demonstrating all of the parts of the Jets you are required to hate on to continue to push the narrative that Zach is a secret-franchise-QB-in-hiding.

I'd be surprised only because he may still be understandably pissed that JD put the squeeze on him well after FA and the draft were over, and teams weren't in the market for him at >$5MM at that time. Not saying Douglas was necessarily wrong to do it either, so I can sympathize with both sides.

Ditto Maye, who couldn't shop himself around because he got tagged, and then in that year misses most of the season to injury. He's surely harboring some resentment for Douglas, and is supposedly still friends with Adams who did get paid elsewhere.

I'd say Crowder is maybe 50-50, depending on the Jets' offer, but have to think Maye is a real long shot (unless he gets tagged again).

(Now watch Maye re-sign a multi-year extension, and Crowder tell the Jets to piss off, just so I can be wrong, lol)

with these guys it's all going to come down to money.  except for davis who has been absolutely bad.  he was a reach and just hasn't performed.  maye will be coming off a pretty serious injury and even if he wants to come back it'll take a good portion of next season before he's back all the way.  shepard?  he's pretty much a jag.  crowder?  good player, reliable pass catcher but as others have said they have two guys that can play the slot in moore and berrios.  i can't say berrios is better than crowder but he does do the punt returns so he might be more valuable.  what the jets need is for one of the tall wr's to come around or else they'll be looking to get one in the draft.

Players with expiring contracts generally have a choice of where to sign, unless they get tagged or tendered.

Crowder is not getting tagged, and I don’t see him voluntarily signing here.

Shepherd should have been traded, he is too old and is not getting signed.

Jarrad was a waste of money and is not back, unless really cheap.

JD should offer Maye a nice prove it deal to compensate screwing him.  Maye should take it.

Why am I just finding out about this wonderful thread ?

Jets fans want a winner ?

The @T0mShane/ @Smashmouth Ticket would get you that winner in 1-2 years and that's got to be an improvement on the usual ten year plans you're all used too.

Send your letters to Woody now

We need a homer ticket to run against you. The people deserve choice, dammit!

The only issue is the data doesn't seem to say anything about the team, given that the top 4 shortest teams are the Bills, Texans, Seahawks, and Bucs, half of the teams are good and the other half suck
