..why has the national media turned its back on NY Jets QB Zach Wilson ?

Now to answer the all important question: why has Zach Wilson received the ire of, not only Jets fans, but seemingly the rest of the league?

Could it be he's not a leader? That can't be the case. His teammates elected him captain prior to the season, which was the first time a rookie quarterback had ever been selected for the franchise. There was also the notion that, after his injury and during that magical Mike White game, Wilson was upset to see the offense ran so smoothly by White and Josh Johnson. That wasn't the case either, as Wilson explained that he wanted White to perform well and was excited when he did.Wilson has been nothing but positive and mature about his situation since coming to the team in April. He's been happy about wins, praised his teammates, and has accepted his mistakes when he makes them. Wilson has also shown flashes of what he can be in the games against the Eagles and the Titans.Showing promise and progress is what the expectations should be for a rookie quarterback. Players like Justin Herbert and Baker Mayfield should be seen as the exception to these, not the standard. Wilson is growing at his own pace, and took a massive step forward against Philly despite what you might read from tweets and reports.

So, the ultimate answer to the question of why Zach Wilson has been lampooned by just about everybody and their mother?

The Jets don't have an identity right now. They have had some of the worst football teams over the last few years. They hired a laughing stock in Adam Gase as their head coach, keeping him for two years, and allowed Mike Maccagnan to throw money at players that wouldn't play out their contracts like Trumaine Johnson and Le'Veon Bell.

Their last winning season was in 2015, and even then they missed the playoffs in embarrassing fashion. Similar to how the Browns were the butt of jokes for most of the 2000s and 2010s, the Jets have become the next in line since the Browns can actually compete. And in the biggest market, with the most eyes watching, of course the player in the most important position that was drafted second overall is going to have the finger pointed at him. In the NFL, whether we agree with it or not, winning and losing will always fall on the quarterback.

Not to mention that the NY Jets don't have a face of the franchise. Kansas City has Patrick Mahomes. Indianapolis has Jonathan Taylor. Tennessee has Derrick Henry. Who sticks out on the Jets? Michael Carter and Elijah Moore have been good, but not enough to garner widespread attention.Wilson is the player everybody knows, and therefore is going to unfairly catch most of the negativity. The Jets have been losers for the last decade, and the toxicity is only just now being cleaned out.All that the fans can do is buckle down and hope that Robert Saleh, Zach Wilson, and Joe Douglas can lift this team from the gutter.

That all starts with improvement. The Jets need to be taken seriously again. How does that start? It's exactly what Zach Wilson always says :...

It's mostly because he had a stretch of very bad football and writing negative articles get clicks.  If he has a single great game, the media will start to overflow with overreactions in the other direction to get clicks that way.  Paying attention to beat writers will give you whiplash, it's probably best just to stay away.

Q: Why haven’t the fans and media embraced the current worst player in football that also happens to be the second overall pick?

Jets Press: Trumaine Johnson, obviously.

I'm starting to realize that your posts are designed to instigate reactions, but I'll bite anyways.

Yes, Zach's season stats are dead last for starting QB's in this league.  However, I picked out 3 players that have a relation to Zach in some capacity and looked at recent statistics.

In the last 5 games played by each of these guys, RTG stat on ESPN.com puts these 4 players here.

75.3 Zach Wilson
71.28 Justin Fields
70.02 Trevor Lawrence
50.68 Sam Darnold

So while he's had the worst overall stats which were extremely weighed down by 2 games in particular, recent performance doesn't say he's the "current worst player in football".

What will be interesting is how these numbers may change next week for the last 5 games because Zach's best statistical game against the Titans will be knocked off the list, and he's going up against a pretty good defense in the Saints.

Where is all of this lampooning?  Have any links, other than the Jet press?

Do you write or work for them?  Thats two threads of what they've published.

I dont know about the National media but Internationally?  Zach is loved!  Especially in Australia where they find his play to be OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!

That's 'cause much like their toilets flush in the opposite direction, they view talent from a negative perspective.  Down under, Zack is tantamount to Mahomes.

I genuinely appreciate the fact that he's garnered as little attention as possible. If you'd told me the Jets 2nd overall pick would have these horrific stats I'd assume we'd be roasted constantly, instead people don't really care and just take it as "of course the Jets top draft pick QB sucks."

Far more curious is that there's zero attention on the fact that Trevor Lawrence sucks, even though he was compared to Elway, Manning and Luck as a prospect. I know Urban's complete incomptence has been kind of a lightning rod there, but Jacksonville must really be the Bermuda triangle because you hear zero talk about how poorly he's played.

National media looks for punch lines more than anything and 100% change their minds on things on a week to week basis.

As for this topic?

The Jets are always easy punching bags for media types fr their hit takes.

The Jets just went through a failed new QB in Darnold.

One of the major reasons though is that media darling QBs in Lawrence and Fields who are just as sucky and it deflects examination of these guys if you can dump all over the Jets QB.

He went to the Jets...end of story.

The franchise is a laughing stock, and rightfully so.

There has been zero culture change this year, just more undisciplined losing by blowouts

When the Jets start winning football games and not the salary cap war people will respect them again

We are 3-9.  Coming off a 2-14 season.  And we have the longest current playoff drought in the NFL.  And number 2 is not even close.  Our rookie QB is the 32nd ranked QB in the league by QB Rating.  Wilson has not performed well.  Team has not performed well.  We are an easy target.

Win some games and the narrative will change.

Short answer: the entire football world was watching Fields and Lawrence battle for National Championships over multiple seasons while Wilson was playing against Montana State at 1am EST on the Joel Osteen Network. If it feels like Fields and Lawrence are being given a pass, it’s because they’ve generated some good will with the football viewing audience, while Zach was some Sidd Finch niche figment of Dan Orlovsky’s imagination and this is the first time anyone who isn’t a ranch hand is seeing him play football.

Everyone just got done watching the Jets fail miserably with Darnold.

Every time the Jets play on national TV, they are blown out and embarrassed.

The Jets haven't made the playoffs since the first Obama administration.

etc.

Basically, everyone assumes that the Jets will fail and have no shot at developing a franchise QB because that's what history tells them.

Negativity sells and causes jets fans heads to explode resulting in views/clicks. Until the team is playoff bound it will continue happening it’s all about $$$. I haven’t watched espn/nfl network etc in years besides when certain games are on there. They are just trying to cause controversy and get attention
