all things come to an end,,

mets ruled NY for much of 70s 80s and will do so again,,

everything is cyclicalm, yanks had a good run but omar will put the mets back on top ,,and in a national league city that is huge,,

NY fans , which are historically NL fans are salivating for the mets to outwin the yanks,,

its gonna happen if u seriously look at the teams,,

Okay, sure I'll give you that...point taken...nobody in New York like the American League....now that we've finished that part of the discussion, care to address the "horrendous, bandwagon Yankee fans that don't come out when they're not winning"?

They don't? Care to present any facts to back that up or are you just going to go the route of a certain Sox fan from these parts that presents opinions as facts with nothing to back it up?

Just because bandwagon Mets fans are going to start coming out to Shea because of the money being spent, doesnt mean Yankee fans don't come out when times are tough. Check the numbers I posted in this thread and you'll get an idea as to what I'm talking about.

New York has not been a National League town since Ruth and Gehrig made everybody forget about those teams that eventually had to move to California because they couldn't compete.

That sorry replacement team will always be the Yanks' bitch, even if they somehow post a better record.

That's not happening anytime soon, btw.

Nah Bob....We had the town wrapped up pretty good in the mid 80's.

Which old days? You mean one moment in time? Mets fan, know your place. The Yankees have a billion world titles (I'm sure some Yankme fan will come in and state how many they have) and have a world's more history than the Mess. You Mess fans are freakin delusional and ignorant. Bloody hell...

Since the Mets inception(1962) the Yanks have 6 WS to our 2.

Until the 96-2000 run the score was 2-2.

It's not the landslide it's made out to be.

SJ is absolutely correct in that when the METS are winning they take over the city for the simple reason that winning when you are expected to(Yanks-payroll) is never as sweet as the 69 Mets, 86 Mets, 2002 Angels etc.

Correct, when you post the numbers and leave out the league average they say what you want them to. If you do a little homework you see the FACT that Yankee fans come out even when the Yanks are down. What you're saying, and very correctly I might add..is that the Mets attendance will go up this year because they are bandwagon fans. Not baseball fans mind you, just regular people who don't care much for sports but if there's something trendy to do with the family then sure, why not...lets pack a picnic basket and go to shea kiddies.

seriously dude, I've presented cold hard facts to prove what I'm saying while you're just saying "it is this way because I said so" No matter how badly you want something or how much you think someting is true doesn't make it so. Yankee fans come out and watch their team...bandwagon spur of the moment/non sports fans go to shea. So yes, this year the Mets should see a sharp increase in attendance but don't expect any of the people in the stands to be able to carry a sports realted conversation.

whens the last time the Mets won 112 games in a season? or had a batting champion? or a home run champion? or an MVP? or 7 straight division titles?

As a franchise, collectively the Mets are an absolute friggin joke, I don't think anybody is disputing that.

As I look back a little at this thread it's actually kind of funny because while on one hand you're saying "Now that the Mets are good, Met fans will come out and watch this year" and then saying "Yankee fans are bandwagon fans, they only come out when the Yankees are good"

we seem to agree,, yanks are bandwagon fans for most part and thier dominance is dwindling,,

its ok, u had a nice little run, but its back to the 80s dominance at the win column and the gate,,

oh ya, one more promo for Yanks,,

This conversation is too funny.

For the money that the Mets have spent the last couple of years and the teams (i.e The Marlins) that they have raped for players they should be better than they have been in the past.

Problem is they haven't.

Pedro, Beltran, Glavine, now Wagner, Delgado, Loduca etc, etc, etc. and yet they still cannot find a way to get into the post season.

This isn't a bunch of kids like the 84 and 85 Mets that caught the fancy of a city. These are the same guys as the team you despise.

A bunch of hired guns.

Here is what you can say about New York Baseball. You have 25% that are die-hard Yankees fans. 25% are hard core Mets fans. The other 50% are what the two teams are going to be fighting for. The Bandwagon fan. The Yankees have held them for the past 10 years. Those same 50% were at Shea from 85-88. That was this is about.

The Mets NEED to be in the post season THIS YEAR. With all the money they have spent not making the playoffs would be HUGE failure.

We will soon find out.

Did the Mets payroll go up much this year? Maybe MBN007 can post numbers.

You had to go there....calling the Mets a bitch. Bob you pornstache guy....True the mets have not had the attendance of the Yanks but The mets now have the network just like the Yanks, they are building a new stadium that will reflect a likeness to ebbets field....AND the stadium will be in a borough where the pastime is not theft and graffitti.

Say all you want about the mets but you know that Queens is an infinitely better location than the Thug life Bronx...just ask the Latin kings, bloods, crips, graffitti artists and the wretch that surround yank stadium.

The Mets will win this year and the they are on the right track.

I am not going to say they will win more than the Yankees but i will say we (the mets) are playoff bound.

Actually we don't agree at all. Personally, I'll onlly take part in a discussion with somebody until it gets to the point where facts have proven them wrong, but yet they use opinions to continue on the same innaccurate, incorrect track. Just be man enough to say you were wrong when you said Yankee fans don't come out when the Yankees are losing. It really takes away from the discussion/debate when you refuse to acknowledge the facts. Thats the kind of stuff I did in fifth grade until I realized how silly it looks to sit there and say the Yankees were better than the Mets in the late 80's because they had Don Mattingly on their roster. Granted he was the best all-around player in New York for about six seasons, but that didn't make the Yankees better. At least I can say I was 12 when I wouldn't give in to the facts.

Sorry. I have not visited the cap issues for a while, and I am not up-to-date on them. My last figures have the Yankees at around 185 million, down from last year. The Mets are around 115 million, IMO, which is less than I thought it would be.

I need to verify and update this stuff though.

whew,,

finally we agree,,

it will be close but the mets will squeal out a few more wins this year,,

see ya monday

So you agree that you lost the argument but not man enough to admit it at first. See, you got beat by somebody willing to do their homework so really its not that bad. Hopefully I've taught you a lesson here today. Don't present opinions as facts or somebody who cares enough will have a fairly easy time proving you wrong. lets go Yankees.

lol u must have no brain, dude. there's no way the mets will pass the yanks this year k thnx.

nice evidence for believing that you stupid piece of trash...

How about this:

The mets have been playing 200% to the level of the yankees this pre-season, if that's any indicator? Randy Johnson has looked like trash, Gaymon got injured, Cano is like 50 pounds overweight, the only good thing going for you is chacon, who will melt down halfway through the year.

Now lets look at the Mets:

Lastings Milledge looking "As Advertised" in the outfield making plays with his glove and slugging home runs... Xavier Nady proving to be a HUGE pickup up in right... Reyes getting on base and having his stolen base total MORE than the entire stolen base total of all teams combined in the WBC. Duaner Sanchez, who everyone talked trash about now is shutting down hitters in the WBC...

maybe you should do your homework

and a hush comes over the peanut gallery

Well y'know... I get sick of Mets fans, Yankee fans, and Red Sox fans, bickering. Right now, the other two really can't speak to the Yanks, in terms of who's better. Over the past decade, it's the Yankees, then Red Sox, then, in a distant third, the Mets. The Mets fans have an inferiority complex.

Oh, and before the Mets fans get in a tizzy, it was the Tigers who put the Yankees in their 80's slump. Thank ya.
