Our last few flop QBs never got over that bad turnover buggaboo. It's all about confidence with Zach. So I can see what our coaching staff is doing with him. Tear him down to basics and build his confidence and then open him up. Not sure I agree with it but I would hope that even the Zach haters would realize we are seeing weekly improvement from him.

Popular Post HawkeyeJet
This is the progress I see. Progression occurs in blocks in my opinion. As much as I would love to see 1 game where he just makes jaws drop all game as the “light comes on”, I just don’t think it happens like that. You build on certain things until they are just 2nd nature. Hopefully this is building block 1. Next step is being a bit more aggressive while keeping the turnovers in check.

That’s why I want to see him continue to use his legs. I don’t want him to turn into a running QB, but if the defense has to account for it, he will have a few more easier throws. And can take a few more shots

In the last game most of those were on tipped balls. He has to clean that up. But a tipped ball is different than throwing into coverage.

Darnold's Forehead
Good. However, he has played much more reserved football since coming back from his injury (which was needed.) Now he needs to bring back his downfield throws. Still has only 7 passing tds in 10 games.

Two were off of the hands of his receivers and one a fluke ball off of a guys helmet - geesh. There was no throw last week that was a bad throw aside from the short one in the ground. Add to that the fact his top 3 wideouts and 3 lineman were out that makes it all the more impressive.

Just speaking of the Jax game, I didn’t really see any schemed routes downfield nor’ did we have any WR’s who could successfully gain separation on them for that matter.

Patriot Killa
There is actually one play where the check is to the deep route for Keelan Cole and it isn’t there, so he moves on to Jeff smith on the slant. Jags covered deep often last Sunday. Jets countered with short passes and runs. there was really no need to go deep - especially if the play wasn’t there.

BurntDice
This is very important in Zach’s development. Getting used to the speed of the game and helping him chill out. Teams can no longer only cover deep because they are doubting his accuracy in the medium/short field. He’s also proven that he can scramble if needed so they have to be more honest. Once he gets his wrs back who can actually get open the field will open up a lot for him. The bucs are down a lot of key players tomorrow so here’s hoping it’s a game similar to Darnolds packer game. edit just looked at the injury report. Still no Moore, crowder, or Davis. Back to dj montomery, mims, barrios and cole I guess sigh 1
Popular Post Green Ghost
People are going to see what they want to see, and interpret different things from the same sets of numbers. I’m firmly on the fence with Wilson right now. If you told me he would have these numbers after 11 games, I’d say he was a complete bust. If I had to decide right now I’d say yeah, he stinks, but… There’s something about him. I can’t put my finger on it, but I see a kid who can still go either way. I think there might be a really good QB inside him, I’m hoping that one will show up. I knew immediately what Darnold was. This kid, as bad as he’s been, (and he’s been terrible) intrigues me.

Our last few flop QBs never got over that bad turnover buggaboo. Bingo, that’s a great summary point. It’s funny that Zach has some solid to elite traits in the more difficult parts of the position like throwing deep, escaping the pocket and throwing off platform. But doesn’t yet have some of the more basic foundational elements down such as foot mechanics and stepping up into the pocket. Once the coaches build this better foundation, then that should allow him to take his game to a much higher level. In pocket, out of pocket, short, medium, intermediate throws. He’ll be adept at all and that’s why his upside is tantalizing. Others don’t have the skills that he shows in the more complicated parts of the game. Teams would need to plan for and defend him on so many different levels. The big concern for many of us are the accuracy issues that he didn’t show in college. Is the root cause mechanics, nerves, processing speed or being too much in his own head (aka the yips)? Could be a combination. In my opinion, the only thing that will prevent him from becoming our franchise QB is the yips.
