Dalton Schultz

Jets should honesty go hard after this guy in free agency. This system relies on a good end and would fit perfect only 25 years old. Might have to over pay a bit? We will def have the cap space, but would JD open the wallet for a tight end

12.6 m per for a TE not named Pitts or Gronk ... i know we need a good TE

I haven’t watched a lot of him, but his measurables aren’t very good. He’s basically a clone of Tyler Kroft height/weight/speed wise.   He has a ton of targets this year at 101 and is only at 787 yards. Compare that to Njoku who had drastically less targets at 51 with 464 yards. He also only has 2 more tds than njoku with twice as many targets. If he was force fed the ball like how shultz is then he would be right on the brink of 1k. Njoku will also be about half the price of shultz.

That only a little more than one yard per target?

This offensive style is best with a good blocker a TE who can also contribute in the pass game.  Kittle is the unicorn because he’s an absolute mauler in the run game and a huge threat receiving.

I personally would not spend that kind of cash on Schultz.  Not even close.  Feels like an Austin Hooper situation.

I’d rather spend a 3rd rounder on a guy like Jake Ferguson from Wisconsin personally.

He wont make it to fa, just the type of guy a team funds a way to resign., they will dump someone else.

Idk the cowboys are flat broke. I think they are either over the cap or right on the line. They have a few young free agents this year too that they might want to retain in Connor Williams, Malik Hooker, and Gallup too.

Off topic, but has anyone watched hooker? Coming out he looked like an amazing single high safety. I know he’s had some injury issues, but was fairly healthy this season.  Might be worth a look if he hits fa for another prove it deal

Maybe but I hear this every single year and if a team wants the guy enough they find a way.  He is a key player for them.  They are more likely to let go all of the guys you listed than schultz if you ask me.

That’s definitely true. The saints were a complete mess last year cap wise. I think they were like 60 mil over and still managed to figure it out

The Saints are projected to be $60M+ over next year too, lol.  I think they just keep pushing it back a year…

I just looked at their cap for 2022 and holy sh*t. They have some absolutely terrible contracts that they can’t get out of. Looks like more kicking the can down the road for them lol

No.

The TE position has become easier to address than our FA makes it look. With defenses spending much more time in nickel-type personnel groups, it doesn’t take much to find an good athlete at TE who can be used to exploit coverage mismatches.

Our issue is our TE group is p-squad or worse. No way should we spend big on a guy that’s middle of the pack talent.

Last season Blake Jarwin won their TE job, btw. Got hurt immediately snd it defaulted to Schultz.

Schultz is the very last guy on that offense that defenses worry about. I’d wager some of the TE production is influenced by that.
