Agree with this - Burrow is the first QB in history to be picked #1 and make the Superbowl within 2 years. If you treat that as a comparative, where do you stop? The only QB to win 7 Superbowls was a 6th round pick, so let's just pick 6th round QBs till the same happens for us?

As fans we seem to want to find the elusive "blueprint to success" so we can insist our team should copy it. But the "blueprint" is different every year. Moreover, winning teams don't copy the blueprint - they write their own.

And yet Wilson can't (and most likely never will) approach Burrow's play as a QB. Maybe you overrate the ability to make "off platform" throws and how much that actually influences winning games.

So the GM has been there for 31 years. The HC has been there for 3 years.  In fact, there is nothing similar between the Jets rebuild and the Bengals rebuild at all.  Not. One Thing.   Except the Bengals were smart enough to actually get the first pick when they stunk in 2019 and the Jets won two - count em- meaningless late season games in 2020 and lost out on that #1 pick.  This isn't year 2 of anything for the Bengals except the QB, for whatever that means.  

It's not the same because the Bengals picked well, and the Jets don't. 

And because Joe Burrow is 1000 times better than Zach Wilson, Sam Darnold or Geno Smith.

The rest is irrelevancy and excuse making.

This is like when you said Stafford is so bad the Rams wouldn’t even make the playoffs.

What fall from grace? I’m sure 90% of teams in the league would love to have Rodgers as their QB next year despite his age. He’s tracking for a second consecutive MVP this year.

Joe B has proven me completely wrong. Hated him during predraft. Now I wish he were our QB.

This idea that the NFL draft is some great mystery where only scouts who are willing to go to the swamps of Louisiana or the Mountains of Alaska to discover some talent that nobody else knows about are long gone.    

NFL draft boards are almost identical with a few tweeks for need and value based on position.  The draft is no different than the stock market.  The teams that win aren't buying individual picks.  They are buying a market of picks based on where they are slotted and how they value the positions against assetts they already own. 

The plan of ever GM in the NFL is virtually identical and only varies based on their roster needs and when they actually pick.  

Cincinati took the consensus No. 1 pick in Joe Burrow because they needed a QB and in the year that they had that pick a very good one was available.  Had they had an elite NFL QB they would have traded out.  A brilliant GM or a dopey owner make the same pick.  

The likelyhood that Joe Douglas is a better drafter than the mean average of NFL GM's is insanely optimistic.  He's just as likely to be below the mean for the next 5 years as above the mean.  NFL GM's are no longer priveledged with information that's not available to everyone.  

We have a horrible roster.  When you have below average NFL players and stink you either have a low salary cap or will have a low salary cap.  When you stink you get to draft closer to the top of each round.   That's not a plan by any GM.  That's the way a league of owners who are business partners set up competitive balance to maximize their profits. 

The NFL has a plan.  Teams that stink and have a lot of draft capital and cap space will balance there lack of interest in a crappy team during the season with more interest in the off season.

not to rain on the bungles too much, it should be pointed out that they had a 4-11-1 record in 2020 and 2-14 in 2019.  even this past season they achieved a 10-7 record.  we're not really taking a dynastic juggernaut here.  oh they should be pleased at reaching the superbowl but it's more like a wild card team that gets hots at the right time.

thr Jets bizarre plan of starting off with a bunch of Salehs friends with no coordinator experience with a rookie QB with a jag backup QB and playing rookies for the sake of it rather than on merit was never going to work. 
 

the bengals had top picks the good years. The jets typically did not. 
 

so far JD has picked 11, 2 and 14 and has a good LG to show for it. 
 

the jets missed the window passing on Watson and Mahomes for Darnold (don’t make me bump the breer article thread again) and then trading 3 2s to get him.  
 

the AFC is loaded with young QBs. We’re fighting for a wild card road game after winning a tie breaker for the next 10 years. 

The jets should be where the Bills are   The bengals are not the correct comparison, they caught lightning in a bottle

I think it's time to stop with the "missing on Watson" talk.  Watson is now a nightmare.  It has the Texans in limbo and that appears likely to continue into next season as well.  He can't take the field and he is not tradeable.  How screwed would the Jets be now with him at QB?
