Said Loomis (Saints GM) likes to use that move to kick the can down the road.

Interesting right now. Fun!!! agree. I was hoping JD would set himself up for a lot of flexibility in the draft and he's done that so far. I wouldn't hate him taking a chance on Hunter. He would have to sign a guy at WR like Juju, Demarcus Robinson, that could play right away that shouldn't break the bank

Signing someone to a big contract is different than trading top picks for one. By the time the Jets could be contenders Hunter might be 30 and falling off a cliff production wise. I doubt they're giving up what would be needed for that. Adams I can certainly see them going for. I also can't see them going after Metcalf as route running is so heavily stressed in this offense. Metcalf's routes are run deep and run fast. Who I can see them trade for is Lockett who is a much better route runner than Metcalf, albeit it not as much of a "dangerous weapon." Yep To me the trade has to be for a wideout. The Jets are in great position to land a high upside edgerusher in the draft. Meanwhile Garrett Wilson is the only receiver even remotely worth drafting in the Top 10. There’s also no guarantee that he makes it past a team like Atlanta and even if he does, Douglas may not be in love with him as a prospect. You team up a dude like Adams or Metcalf with Moore, Davis and Berrios along with our new TE room and what should at the very least be an above average OL…and you’re putting your prized young QB in an EXCELLENT spot to succeed.

There's a lot of games you can play with salaries and signing bonuses. GMs keep pushing money down the road (later years) as they assume the cap will keep going up and the hits won't hurt as bad.

Robinson gives us the flexibility and time to wait on the guy who's supposed to be the top WR in the class. 100% this doesn't happen, but I'd take it. Actually, I don't think it is crazy at all. I had the same thought around a possible Amari Cooper acquisition. It could have freed us up to acquire Williams as it would have lessened the need for a rookie to contribute immediately. That said, I am not a big Robinson fan. By most accounts here in Chicago, he was dogging it this year, not happy to be playing on the tag. I guess that either means he comes back motivated and ready to prove doubters wrong, or he is a dog whose best years are behind him -- and effort could be an issue if we struggle at the start of the season. Depending on the contract, it may be worth a roll of the dice. I would be cautiously optimistic if we signed him.

GreenFish
Connor Hughes been spot on all offseason, but I’m not seeing it. Spotrac and OTC both have us at $32M left. Like Connor said, the contracts added have a big spike in year 2. So far, the year 1 impacts have been 20% of the total contract for the 3 year deals and 30% for the 2 year deals. Still missing in that $32M is the net impact of the draft picks ($14M) and the signings of Tomlinson, Reed Jr., and Concklin. Plus some other minor re-signings like Flacco. Even If those 3 remaining signings have a similar structure to the ones already made public, it’s starting to get tight. If a trade happens, I’m expecting it to be for a player still on their rookie deal. Claypool for example.

If you sign hunter and were not contending in 3 years we probably have a new GM and Coach the way Woody works. I am of the belief that each receiver you have doesn't have to play the position the same way. Booth LaFleur really showed a lot of variety in play calling and I think he could easily work Metcalfs stronger routes into the playbook while using Moore and even Davis to a lesser degree as the more technical receivers. Lockett to me is just a Moore type receiver in size and I think we need to give Zach a WR that is open even when he's covered. Lockett seems like he disappears for stretches and is close to the "30" you're worried about for Hunter.
