I think for most people podcasts (and now youtube) killed the industry. I listened to WFAN every time I was in my car but now? If I want to hear Jets talk I can literally sift through 3-4 podcasts on any given day. Maybe a little less so in May - but whatever - there are daily podcasts like Play Like a Jet.

Honestly its too hard for hosts to be experts on every team/subject. I listened to DiPietro and Rothernberg the other day doing draft talk. They knew Hutchinson, Thibs, and Evan Neal. After that it was a lot of - Jets could draft that LSU corner, or "the other big tackle"

Thats not doing it for sports fans these days. But at the same time those guys have to talk about Knicks/Nets/Rangers/Islanders games ongoing. The NBA in general. MLB sh*t. Its just not possible to maintain an expert level of knowledge in each sport.

Hell Bart Scott does like 3 shows and one or two of them are Jets related and 90% of the people on this board could name more Jets than he could.

I just ran out for a short errand. I turned on WFAN and heard Evan Roberts talking about how he tried Lemon Ices again yesterday because the other guys on the show say they like it.  However, he doesn't like it.  Carton's response was to replay what Evan said because it sounded like he said "Isis".

I then switched over to ESPN and heard Rosenberg say something about someone being "lambasted" but pronounced it as "lam-BASTed" (the bold part rhyming with "vast").  The other 2 idiots (Kay and LaGreca) then started discussing about how they pronounce that word.

Then I turned the radio off.  I mean, there's nothing happening in the world of sports right now, right?

I have given up after many years of religiously listening. Too many choices on YouTube and Podcasts for whatever you want when you wants. I will listen to Jake Asman, Ryan @bla bla bla , @Green Bean, Matt O'Leary, Boy Green, Frankie From Flatbush, Jets Media, and so many others before ever going back. Sports Radio is absolutely awful

With the exception of breaking news like an immediate free-agent signing, etc. sports talk radio stations have really lost their value. Except for those who keep it on in the background most of the day or while doing delivery jobs, etc. I think most of us would prefer to wait a a few hours or even a day and then listen to a more informative, thorough podcast. It’s simply better analysis and more thoughtful….rather than the immediate knee-jerk reaction from some of these knuckleheads on the radio after one of these signings comes through and they say, “What are they doing signing dat guy? It sounds like a bad contract. What a mess this team is!“

I’d much rather podcasts or videos from guys like @bla bla bla and @GREENBEAN as Copernicus mentioned.

There's no good sports talk radio anymore in this area. Joe and Evan were pretty good. The one thing I miss about Francesa, is that when I turned his show on, I knew I was going to get sports talk. It might just be him pontificating and arguing with callers the whole show, but at least it was about sports, and what was going on in the sports world.

Appreciate the plugs @Copernicus and @jetstream23!

Yea i got sick of talk radio and ESPN, thats what triggered the YouTube Channel. @GREENBEAN has some great long form content in the vein of a traditional podcast, Matt O'Leary's Just Jets is really good too. Depends how you want to consume! I do a stream every Tuesday at 8pm with Bean and O'Leary and we'll get a ton of people in the chat.

Worse, those guys are the supposed "A" teams.

Couldn’t agree more.  NY sports radio is an abyss right now that Francesa and Beningo are gone

This is why I subscribe to SiriusXM.

SiriusXM NFL channel is pretty good, otherwise it’s Beatle’s Channel, Tom Petty, or Little Steven’s Underground Garage. NY sports radio is a cesspool!

Way too many commercials. Drives me nuts...

I think it's safe to say that like Pro Wrestling, sports talk radio has become Sports Talk Entertainment!?

I don't really have any qualms. It's the producers trying to get ratings that way they get the Big money commercials. Shows like GMFB, the Michael Kay show, Speak for Yourself, etc. They're all good shows and they're all entertaining-

Dependent upon your age obviously.

I used to have crackly AM radio on all day on the work truck. Most of the time it's just white noise for me. I'm really only into Football and Boxing so when they go into tennis, baseball, or basketball I could give a crap.

In my opinion with all the technology at our fingertips and social media, there are just way too many options out there. There's no chance for the cream to rise to the top.

How many podcasts are there? How about streaming channels? Music? Fan made movie trailers? Music mashups!? Anybody with a cell phone can download an app and now they're a Music producer? Fantasy football, betting, and gambling shows. Reality shows and spin-offs. My head is spinning. The Book of Boba Fett was The Mandalorian 2.5! ? Okay so 7 half hour episodes consists of a season?

My son Shane is 12 years old and has his own video game podcast lol!

Guess 'cause I'm old a sh*t.   But I don't get the podcast concept at all.  I've tried a bunch but lose interest relatively quickly.  Nothing like the vibe of live radio.

I wasn't crapping on anybody's podcast, I'm just saying we're oversaturated with stimulation in general. Like how can you tell the difference between what's good or bad?

Where are the Stevie wonders, the Howard Cosells, the Elton Johns, Terry Bradshaws etc.

Old is a state of mind but I get what you're saying it's like guys that count on getting their buttered roll, their newspaper, and coffee in the morning.

Netflix is great, technology at our fingertips, but it shouldn't kill the thrill of going to the movie theater and smelling the popcorn the night the movie premieres.

Virtual simulation is not the same as being on a roller coaster.

Packing a cooler and setting up the gear to go fishing at 4:30 a.m. can never be replaced by a video game.

Every young man and woman should feel the experience of walking through a carnival and smelling the popcorn and cotton candy while holding hands for the first time.

Oh yeah, how are we going to supe up electric cars!? Lol..

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's more about mood, and feeling, and experience. Watching fireworks on TV is not the same as your Dad lighting fireworks on the 4th of July. Ordering from GrubHub is not the same as putting on some tunes, cracking open a Corona, and throwing  some marinated chicken on the grill.

Just like Stern went down the tubes, sports talk in NYC is over too.  Replacing awful Imus with Normie and Chime Time showed that the people running WFAN were clueless and the staffing choices since have not gotten any better.

I do not like either Tiki or Tierney individually, but their show is the only one on WFAN i enjoy.

This ain’t mid nineties NY sports talk.   That will never be back

Howard Stern all morning, WFAN all day was how i spent every summer working with my pop when i was a kid.  Could keep up with the shows while walking down the streets in Brooklyn, cause every delivery driver had the same things on.

I listen to wrestling shoot interviews and podcasts while working, instead of sports talk now.  Old stuff, nothing about the male gymnasts they pass off as pro wrestlers today.
