Tyreek Hill on the Block-Jets Involved. This is not a drill

I am.

You are aware that he is a free agent at the end of the year so even if we offered him info on who really killed Kennedy, where Jimmy Hoffa is buried and dating Raquel Welch for a year in her prime - he was going to leave at the end of the 2022 season because he simply did not want to come here.

I don’t think we’re arguing anything then. The Jets were never in the mix because he didn’t want to sign a deal. They weren’t giving up assets for a one year rental or a AB/Oakland situation.

People are not allowing that this could be a really bad trade for Miami. He's 28 with a lot of mileage. WRs do tend to drop off a cliff when they get older. it's quite possible even without injury Miami only gets one good year from him and then they face a $30M a year boat anchor on the team. People don't seem to get that just because a name player was good does not mean that will continue. Brandon Marshall had an all pro year at 31 and then completely disappeared. Marshall was a big receiver that did not rely as much on speed. Hill is a little guy that is probably in NFL terms from wear and tear as old as Marshall at 31. Him being a slam duck difference maker is far from a certainty. I am not upset I didnt want the scumbag anyway

Miami still has 2 1st rd picks next year too. They’re setup pretty nice right now

Some of you guys are missing the point: Hill wanted to go to Miami and held all of the leverage (signing a long term deal).

The Jets weren't giving up a first round pick if Hill was never going to sign an extension with us. In a way, KCs hands were tied because he wanted to go to Miami and would only sign an extension with them. How they were able to wrangle that much from Miami when it sounds like all parties knew this is beyond me.

In the end, he was either going to Miami or staying with KC.

Really tough to miss out on Hill, especially since KC accepted a deal that didn't involve #4 or #10, but this is the price you pay when you've been a joke of a franchise for a decade: stars do not want to come here. This isn't on JD, he made a hell of an offer that the other team accepted, it was simply Hill's decision in the end.

Not sure how much "joke of a franchise" played into it. Maybe a bit, but he lives in FL and will pay no state income tax on his contract. This was the best deal for Hill financially.

There could have been 6 teams involved and he probably still would have picked miami. He’s won a super bowl and is a super star and just wants to cash in and enjoy the scenery.

Seriously

You want to give your prized young QB the most explosive offensive weapon in the game today…or do you want the 4th ranked edgerusher in this draft class and Drake London?

At what price?

The picks, the salary dont factor in?

And youre seeing EDGE going 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th?  lol

You're full of it. There're artist who's music you listen to who are assholes. There're actors'/actresses' movies/tv shows that you watch who are assholes...and other athletes whom you root for who are also assholes. So why go there with Vick? What he did was dumb but it doesn't make him a bad person. Hell, Kevin Spacey raped some boys but that doesn't make a classic movie like Se7en unwatchable to me...and if you say it does to you then you're definatly full of it.

You can disagree with my stance all you want.  But I'm not "full of it" when I say I indeed did not watch the Jets the year they signed Vick.  You can look up my post history if you want.

You don't f**k with dogs man.  Some people deserve to get hurt.  Dogs never do.  If you can harm an innocent creature, then I do believe it indeed makes you a "bad person".  No doubt, Kevin Spacey is a bad person.  As is Michael Vick.

My views on this subject can be summed up in a speech by this man:

https://www.historyplace.com/speeches/vest.htm

George Graham Vest (1830-1904) served as U.S. Senator from Missouri from 1879 to 1903 and became one of the leading orators and debaters of his time. This delightful speech is from an earlier period in his life when he practiced law in a small Missouri town. It was given in court while representing a man who sued another for the killing of his dog. During the trial, Vest ignored the testimony, and when his turn came to present a summation to the jury, he made the following speech and won the case.

thin-blue-365.jpg

Gentlemen of the Jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.

George Graham Vest - c. 1855

So Adam Schefter is wrong that the Chiefs accepted the Jets offer?

So you do draw a line somewhere.

Even after you made posts about how most players are assholes anyway and how you're sick of watching other teams win with sociopaths when the Jets should be too.

After all, you need to cut a few corners with player character when you want to win, right?

And I stand by that.  It's all a matter of where you cut those corners.  There is a line.  I'm merely suggesting that if you draw a hardline stance on ALL character issues, then you won't win titles.  Period.

I wasn't suggesting no line should be drawn (just look at the Marvin Lewis Bengals for evidence that there indeed NEEDS to be a line), nor was I really advocating acquiring Tyreek Hill.  But somewhere along the line, a few of your players need to be "problems" if you want to win a lot of games.

My question is what did JD offer Hill in terms of extension?

We'll never know but it's possible Miami outspent NYJ in that department

Just now seeing Hill was available, the Jets were in it, and Hill got traded to Miami. So, taking it all in at once. Lol.

I’ve been wanting the Jets to make a trade for an established number 1. So, I’m pretty bummed. Hill is not just a #1 guy, but he’s one of the handful of elite WRs. Sucks he chose Miami.

This is now the second veteran WR we’ve been tied to. Ridley being the first.

Who cares at this point? It’s not happening.

And we pick 4th. Yes, I could absolutely see edgerushers going 1, 2 and 3.

Sure they will go 1, 2 and 3.

In which case we draft the best CB, WR, OL etc.

Pretty sure it worked like this...

  1. Chiefs worked out trade comp with two teams - that they were comfortable with either deal
  2. Hill, then negotiated with both teams to get the best deal.
  3. When both team's offers were at the same level
  4. Hill had a choice and picked the Fish.

Douglas has to have something else up his sleeve.

Otherwise pushing all of the big cap hits to next year makes no sense.

Well, it was a roll of the dice - hoping to get this deal done.

It didn't work.  Now, maybe there is someone else out there - but they were prepared to pay a WR $30mm a year - so who knows.

Could be there are other big names that could be moved before the draft not yet public. JD does not structure these contracts without a reason. He might ultimately miss and eventually restructure some, but I believe you are right on the intent.

That's my understanding of the situation. I don't understand why people are suggesting alternate realities here.

Not as long as Tua is QB.

You know thats what I tend to think but they won 7 in a row after losing 7 in a row.   A lot of these losses were without Tua and I believe all the wins were with Tua

Wound up 9-8.

If the Pats take a step back, which I expect,  I think could contend.

Sorry, can't relate. I'm a cat person. I deliver for FedEx so I've came across plenty of dogs that were evil. Dogs that maul children definitely deserve whatever comes to them.
