jetspenguin
I respect the argument. But what might happen in practice is that the Jets have a very similar grade on a lot of the WRs in this draft. Hence, the Jets might be nearly as excited to get a guy like Pickens in round 2 (just an example, insert someone you like here) as they would Williams/London/Wilson in round 1. I think there was a very telling moment at the press conference last week - Rex Hogan spoke of there being "parity" at the WR position in this draft - I think that might have tipped their hand a bit, but we'll see. You make a good point but it sounded to me like the parity he referenced was related to the top names being floated around. Likely no more than 3 or 4 players tops. Different skill sets but graded similarly.Sent from the NY Jets /Zack Wilson Suicide Watch desk.

That comment struck me along with the comment about there being a lot of "parity" at the WR position in this draft.

If you told me I had a legit LT for a decade but he typically missed 2 games a season, sign me the F up. NFL players get hurt A LOT. No, but adding it with Becton's history means that the Jets will likely need a 3rd starter for several games. That was my point, not that Fant is injury prone. I think the word “might“ fits in the idea that the tackle position “might” be figured out for this season, but there are question marks all over the place for such an important position. This is a player we absolutely need. Becton is an unknown and Fant doesn’t have the years or upside of these two young studs in the draft. We have a chance to get a lockdown tackle. It’s not a hard decision from the perspective of the biggest need of this team is to shore up all the help you can possibly get for this young quarterback. But it is a hard and frustrating decision when you think of all the capital we’ve thrown into the tackle position in the past, and when you see that there are other players who can help us greatly.

If he’s hurt again this year you’re getting nothing. Now you may. And you could trade him after missing a year at a reduced price and he goes 4 years without an injury and watch his replacement get injured. TheClashFan
Why not Evan Neal or Charles Cross? I'm curious why Ekwonu would be the guy at #4, assuming that JD decides to take an OT there? FWIW, Pro Football Focus has Cross as the #1 OT prospect. Is it just the "nastiness" factor that JD thinks the OL lacks?

I would imagine that the path to Thibodeaux in the Top Three went like this: 1. He came into the process the #1 guy. 2. Area scouts (who are neck-bearded chubby guys in refractory-lens sunglasses who make $30k, live in their cars, and still wax poetic about Tony Mandarich and Steve Emtman) see Thibodeaux’s Lambo in the Oregon player lot, decide he’s a douche, then tell Daniel Jeremiah, Todd McShay and Matt Miller that Thibodeaux is a douche, which then becomes a thing. 3. Coaches parachute into the process in April, watch thirty seconds of film, then say, “This guy? I like him. Draft this guy.” 4. Penniless area scouts then say, “but he is a douche!” 5. Coaches reply, “I once coached Keyshawn Johnson/Jamal Adams/Any Bosa/Any player from the University of Florida. Every player currently on my team is a millionaire douche.” 6. A flummoxed Matt Miller then tweets out that “Thibodeaux is rising, as I knew all along. Look at this bend that I previously tweeted didn’t exist, but have subsequently deleted.” 7. Thibodeaux gets drafted at #2. 8. Matt Miller gets 8-year, $210 million dollar deal to create “content” for ESPN. 2
Popular Post football guy
Here’s what one inside the Jets organization expects to see occur next Thursday: 1(4) OL Ickey Ekwonu 1(10) DE Kayvon Thibodeaux/Jermaine Johnson WR would be addressed via trade (whether it be Deebo Samuel or trade up into top 25) 10 1

Karlaftis or would they then consider WR at 10 (assuming no Deebo trade)?

There’s split opinions whether OL or DL should be addressed at 4 but sounds like Ickey is top 3 players on the board, and seems confident one or both DEs will be available at 10 given how deep this class is with DEs. If they weren’t there, WR or trade down could be the strategy. If Ickey and Walker went top 3 that’s a scenario where they Jets could find themselves taking one of the DEs a little earlier, or Cross. Certainoy expecting some sort of trade
