Final Mock: My Picks/Jets Picks

Final Mock. No trades, although I believe JD WILL make a couple of trades in this draft. I'm not going to go into much detail or explanation but going to list my picks as well as what I predict the Jets will do.  I'm going to preface this by saying that I still believe Neal, Hutch and Thib are going top 3

Rd. 1a: My pick- Ekwonu. This is a BAP selection with the top 2 pass rushers off the board and CB not being a need.

Jets pick: Ekwonu. I think the Jets feel the same way. If Hutch and Thib are off the board and its between Ekwonu, Sauce and the other pass rushers, they are taking Ekwonu.

Rd. 1b: My pick- D.Lloyd. Thats right. I'm obsessed with this player. Instant game changer on the defense. Can play all 3 downs. Future Mike. He is Saleh's Fred Warner but reminds me more of Darius Leonard from the Colts. Smart, has the measurables, great instincts, can do everything.

Jets pick: Wilson. I think they really like Wilson and JD clearly wants a premier WR talent. This makes a ton of sense to me. Yes, they pass on JJ, Penning, potentially Hamilton and Lloyd. But this draft has a lot of good edge prospects and Saleh clearly said there are lots of solid edge prospects and nobody who really stands out. So this pick would make sense.

Rd. 2a: My pick- George Pickens: To me, this guy has #1 WR potential. Only reason he slides to Rd. 2 is that he is coming off injury. Solid route runner, solid blocker, love his game.

Jets pick: Lewis Cine-S: Jets seem to love this guy. He played all over the place but had a ton of snaps on the back end of the secondary. He has very few holes in his game. Seems like a stellar fit and can be plugged right in as a starting FS. He will really shore up that secondary.

Rd. 2b: Kenneth Walker III: Again, this is MY pick and this is one of my favorite prospects. I think he is a stud and will be an explosive weapon as an early down RB to pair with Carter. What he lacks in pass blocking and receiving skills he can learn while the Jets use him in a platoon system his first year. But he is a big play waiting to happen. Easily one of the best RBs in the draft.

Jets pick: Arnold Ebiketie-Edge: The Jets take their edge in Rd. 2. Ebiketie is a great fit as a wide nine pass rush specialist because of his great combination of strength and speed. A bit of a developmental prospect, the Jets get good value here in Rd. 2 with a player who could really blossom under Saleh.

Rd. 3: My pick: Jeremy Ruckert: Big, athletic, great hands, and probably the best blocker in the class. Is this too early for him? Doubt it. He will be gone by round 4. Would I rather have Jelani Woods who is super raw. Probably not, even if he has more upside.

Jets pick: Jeremy Ruckert: see above. I think the Jets really like him and think they can utilize him right away in certain situations because of his blocking prowess, even though they just signed Conklin and CJ.

Rd. 4a: My pick: Here's my sneaky edge pick. Alex Wright-UAB: Raw prospect who I absolutely love. Big dude who would fit the scheme as a 4-3 strong side DE. Watch some tape on him. Lots to like about this prospect.  He's really flying under the radar.

Jets pick: Troy Andersen- OLB: He may go in Rd. .3 but he is pretty raw and there's A LOT of great LBs in this draft so I think he will slide. Andersen crushed the senior bowl, he crushed the combine, he fits the Saleh S/OLB athletic profile. I think he is a great fit. The Jets seem really high on Quincy as the strong side LB but really have no idea about Sherwood and Nas as the weakside LB starters- how could they, the guys barely played. Anderson should compete for that spot right away. If he ends up being a depth piece, being a former running QB, he can do a lot of different things for the team.

Rd. 4b: My pick: Tyreke Smith: I am doubling up on edge. In part because I did not take one early. But I think there is going to be great value a bit later in the draft for edge rushers. Smith fits this scheme very well as a true versatile 4-3 edge. He needs to work on his craft but again, as a rotational/developmental edge is a great pickup.

Jets pick: Cole Strange-G/C: He may be gone by now. I think the Jets love him as a versatile backup. He had some snaps at C. They may acually try to transition him to C in the NFL. A bit of a project but a guy who can contribute as a depth piece.

Rd. 5a: My pick: Haskell Garrett-DT: Attacking 4-3 DT. nice fit for the Jets.

Jets pick: Jesse Luketa-OLB/Edge. Luketa has been linked to the Jets. They seem to really like him as a strong side developmental LB.

Rd. 5b: My pick: Verone McKinley III: one of my favorites in this draft. A true ballhawks FS. He absolutely broke out last year for Oregon with 77 tackles, 6INTs and 6 PDs. Undersized and not a true speedster. But McKinley has a good nose for the ball and can play the position.

Jets pick: Tyler Allgeier-RB: Tough to predict where the Jets go this late. But Allgeire is a good fit IF the Jets feel like they are ready to move on from Ty Johnson or have little commitment to Coleman.

MY DRAFT:

Ekwonu-OT

Lloyd-LB

Pickens-WR

Walker III-RB

Ruckert-TE

A.Wright-Edge

T.Smith-Edge

H.Garrett-DT

V.McKinley III-FS

JETS DRAFT:

Ekwonu-OT

Wilson-WR

Cine-S

Ebiketie-Edge

Ruckert-TE

T.Andersen-OLB

C.Strange-G/C

J.Luketa-OLB/Edge

Tyler Allgeier-RB

With a draft like yours, who is going to score points?

It will be another year of not beating anyone in the division and JD given his exit visa.

Jets needs scorers. Lots of them.  Now.

then you're in for a disappointment... outside of maybe a WR late 1, or early 2 and late TE, it's going to Oline and Defensively heavy draft I think,

Well, I know a lot of people will be irked that I took Lloyd instead of a WR at 10. But I took Pickens, Walker III and Ruckert with 3 consecutive draft picks starting in Rd. 2. All of these guys will be expected to contribute on the offense in a major way.

I think a fairer criticism would be why I took two developmental Edge rushers late rather than at least one sure fire one early. Thats just how it came out. I picked the players I liked. I really like Alex Wright and I think Tyreke Smith will be a great fit. I could have taken an edge at 10 but, to me, Lloyd is a game changer and one of my favorite players. A sure thing.

just about everyone here mocks all the time . theres even a thread for posting mocks in the draft forum but every so often some narccissitic friends feel the need to show theirs in their own thread in the main forum.

Should I post a new thread too? I have lots and lots of screenshots

Good all around coverage, but Jets cannot go through this whole draft picking no CBs when they signed one top FA and even though Hall is good as well as Echols and MCII, with all the QB and WR upgrades in the AFC East and AFC overall our secondary will need more than what we have at the CB position and we cannot expect the pass rush to become dominant overnight and provide the secondary the luxury of only covering receivers for a few seconds.

Fair enough. However, I completely disagree. I don't think you draft based on what your division opponent is doing.

And I think if you look at the Jets needs, CB is one of the lowest on the totem pole. DJ Reed and Hall are very, very solid 1 and 2. Echols is a very solid backup or dime at #3. Carter II is only scratching the surface of his potential as a Nickel or slot CB. So is Guidry. These are all young CBs who are only going to get better if they stay healthy and continue getting playing time. Who could I possibly draft, what rookie, who will suddenly come in and make an impact that surpasses what this group is expected to bring next year? I would have to take someone in the first or second round. I'm not doing that with all the needs the Jets have. And I bet the Jets won't either...unless its Gardner, who would be much more of a BAP pick than a need pick.

Edge rusher. Sure, I accept the criticism for passing on Edge early. We need an impact edge pretty bad with how futile our pass rush was last season and Lawson being a major question mark. But CB? Nope. No need for a CB. I'd be totally fine if JD passed on the position completely in this draft.
