This is the dream team for Ruckert and his family.  Him playing for the team they grew up rooting for.

And this draft...has been a dream for me.  And Jets still have picks on Day 3.

Guys Ruckert is one of us, he's suffered like us.  Kid bleeds gang green and I can't think of a cooler thing than a talented player with roots in a team he's playing for.  Will be rooting for the kid for sure!

He’s something the Jets were missing though - a good blocker.   That’s a great start.   They also picked up 2 pass catchers.   I believe in him to grow and develop too.  
 

The Jets are building a running team with a capital R.

I think it’s how he was used not that he had only 21 catches. We have a quality Tight End room now, from having practically nothing forever.

He wasn't used as a receiver, more for his blocking but when called upon to make a reception he did so Flawlessly... He is a True Double threat... Catch & Block with the Best of them... You'll see... LeFleur will use him properly.

I posted this in another thread but what the hell …

I watched him as a freshman play with my little brother who a senior at Lindenhurst and as a 13 year old kid he dominated 17-18 year olds . Don’t let the recieving totals fool you , I don’t understand why he went to Ohio state but if he had gone to a more tight end friendly school he goes over McBride , great hands , will be a hard worker and good teammate , always will be where he’s supposed to , athletic even if he’s not super fast , willing blocker who will work on that and improve . I honestly see him as a slightly more athletic Dalton Schultz with better “big catch” ability . Let him work as the 3 TE until Conklin and uzomah are gone and/or injured and by year two or 3 he’ll be ready to be our go to tight end and be an above average top 10 tight end for this team for the next decade + … I couldn’t have dreamed a better draft than this the fact joe d got ruckert to cap off day 2 is surreal . These last two drafts are going to be the reason this team turns the corner and is in position to be very good for a long time . Get on board with the ruckert pick now (not saying you are not just saying in general) because you will definitely be apologizing in a year or two when he becomes our guy !

Don’t listen to the fools on ESPN , he’s solid all around but if anything his strength is as a reciever with great hands and in madden terms great “spectacular catch” ability … the idea that he’s some one dimensional run blocker is asinine , Ohio state just doesn’t do a whole lot with their tight ends . Kid was making one handed sideline grabs as a 13 year old in Suffolk county championship games and continued to prove he can do that in college when given the shot , he’s going to post up much better pro numbers … anyone worried about this pick , stop now , kids at minimum going to be solid tight end recieving and blocking with the upside of being a recieving weapon who is also a willing blocker

You know what tight end had 22 catches for 314 yards and four TDs as a senior in college? Huh? Huh? George Kittle. GEORGE KITTLE. Ruckert isn’t the athlete that Kittle is, but I think he can put up numbers for the Jets, especially if they use him the way I imagine LaFleur will—in the role formerly occupied Braxton Berrios.

Anyway, it looks like they’re trying to build a heavy run - dump off style offense with an occasional deep throw so Ruck will be a great fit. That should also help Wilson improve by taking the pressure off him.

With all the wideout talent at Ohio State he's not going to have great numbers .  Take a look at the playoff game against Alabama a year ago.  This kid is the real deal and will be part of the Jets future success.

They might run the ball a record number of times this year.  It's going to make ground and pound look like an airshow.  Ruckert has functional service in that capacity immediately.
