I'd similarly say the Giants took the right guys at the right spots and had some high picks.  Baltimore also got some great risk/reward and value picks.  I mean... Hamilton at 14, Linderbaum at 25, Ojabo at 45 (injury issue), Travis Jones at 76, Faalele at 110?  Those are all really, really good picks getting some players a little bit later than they should have gone.

Huge credit to JD and the Jets for a few things:  Accumulating these picks in the first place (Jamal and Darnold trades), and then using them to maximum value in this Draft during a year in which they really needed to nail this.

 

When JD literally positioned them, like you mentioned, there's no cold water to throw. They made it happen. They get the credit. Period. Now they have to develop these dudes.

Draft grades are so dumb but still nice to see high grades. Though with 4 picks in Top 36 if you don't get an A something is seriously wrong. PFF's way of looking at things is just bizarre and even they begrudgingly gave us an A.

Some thoughts though:

1. I am not sure any team has ever drafted the consensus top prospect at 3 positions before. Definitely some have gotten two but the Jets drafted the #1 WR, #1CB and #1 RB and according to Shrader Ruckert was #1 TE on many boards.

2. Think about this: In an average draft not considering trades only 4 teams have 2 picks in the Top 36 and 28 teams only have 1. So we got 2-4 entire drafts worth of elite prospects in a single draft. It's pretty crazy.

I wonder what the correlation between those scores and the ten year evals are?  I remember thinking that the Browns crushed all of their drafts in the mid 2010s (along with all the pundits), but instead they produced some of the worst results ever assembled in the modern era.

there's everything good about this draft.  the jets got some pretty good players who fill immediate positions of need.  i can see all 4 of the top picks staring or playing significant minutes from game one.  maybe wilson will push mims so he becomes a better players.  same thing with williams and zuniga.  we need to see these guys on the field.

Switching out Braylon and Cotchery for Plaxico and Mason was very symbolic of what went wrong with the team in that time period.

Hall is a great receiver out of the backfield, so Wilson will love having him at his disposal.

The best pick Douglas made was at No. 26 when he traded up for Jermaine Johnson. The Florida State star inexplicably fell after being projected in the top 10. Johnson dropped because of character concerns, but nothing could've been bad enough to have him plummet from the 8-12 range to No. 26. The Jets' edge rush has struggled for quite some time, and Johnson's presence will go a long way in bolstering it.

The Jets' 2022 season will depend on Wilson's progression, but Douglas' great drafting means that the young quarterback won't have any excuses. Douglas has put Wilson in the best possible position to succeed in his second year.

The window just closed.  Alot of our key players (Scott,  LT, Santonio) were done.  Others like Revis, Brick and Mangold had peaked and were on the downslope.  Sanchez had flaws in his game that we could no longer hide.

Well, if you're good at drafting and FA acquisition you can continue to build the team around the good young players and replace the older ones who leave. The window doesn't have to close if you're good at your job.

The "window closed" because we sucked at drafting and made critical mistakes in FA. As far as critical mistakes in FA swapping out Braylon and Cotchery for Plaxico and Mason serves as strong examples of poor talent and culture moves that are symbolic of the general decline. Obviously these moves aren't why we started to suck.

The two biggest mistakes were giving Santonio the extension and the tebow trade which turned the Jets into a 3-ring circus.

 

The tebow trade also meant no Russell Wilson in round 2 who Terry Bradway had been pounding the table for.
