Garrett Wilson Film Breakdown - Why I think he has the potential to be a future Top 5 WR in the NFL

IMO Garrett Wilson is PERFECT for the Mike LaFleur system! He checks off all the boxes to succeed in this offense and to be a future Top 5 receiver in the NFL. 4.37 speed, great route runner, a separation machine at the top of his routes, insane body control (like OBJ had earlier in his career), 40 inch vertical, a threat to score every time he touches the ball. An overall athletic freak with a dawg mentality!

Of course he has to live up to that potential and stay healthy, but if he does he and Elijah Moore with be a nightmare for D's for the next few years at least.

Really soft hands too.

He's going to be fun to watch.

Yes he will be, I loved watching his tape. One thing he needs to do is bulk up a little to beat press coverage, but other than that I can't wait to see him on the field come September.

That's a new one. Do you know who said that?

One of the pundits right after he was drafted. They showed an acrobat Catch, used all 40 inches of his vertical, perfect body control and high pointed the ball. It’s was filthy!!

Moore’s were  just like that in camp last year! I hope these guys can stay healthy, be a silly duo! Im skipping camp and pre season because I can’t, I just can’t.

They really are A LOT a like. They will be interchangeable and will be all over the formation! I hope they stay healthy we could at the very least have a top 5 receiving duo in the NFL in the near future.

I don’t know if it has been mentioned already, but in addition to being the Jets top rated WR (according to Douglas) and the 4th overall player on Daniel Jeremiah’s board, he was also the 4th overall player on Dallas’s board (based on the board Jerry Jones held up)

Maybe the jets got lucky for a change - kinda like when Elijah Moore slipped to them last year . . .

The kid is SICK, he's my personal favorite pick of the draft and maybe my favorite player of the entire draft! There was a reason he was offered a basketball scholarship be he correctly picked football.  This is absurd leaping ability!

They definitely did get lucky that JJ slipped to 26, that was amazing good fortune.

I personally happen to like the Alpha type receivers. Jump ball guys. The issue with those guys is its hard to find big guys that can separate. Cosell mentioned London plays like a TE.

I don't think people understand how rare it is to have a guy that can Separate as well as Wilson does AND do this. What a special draft class this was for the Jets. Atlanta is going to regret picking London for a very long time over Wilson.

I actually breathed a huge sigh of relief when ATL took him at 8. I wanted no part of the Jets going near him. I personally think he's has the biggest bust potential of anyone of the Top 6 receivers who got drafted in top 20. Too slow, can't separate consistently.

I did not know much about Wilson, I was 💯 behind taking Jamo.  I’ve been very pleasantly surprised to see how good this kid could be.

His cuts are a thing of beauty.  Had the DB instantly spun.

On the other hand that’s him one on one with a Freshman Safety he better make that play.

A freshman safety who was probavly a 5 star recruit who was in good position to make a play, but GW made THE play.

Same story right here.  I was obsessed with Jamo and for a while there , before the draft, thought the Jets could/should/would trade down to 20-23 to get him.  Always assumed Wilson would not be the #10. Simply dismissed the thought in the weeks leading up to draft.  No idea why.

From Albert Breer's Mailbag

From Michael Marino (@MichaelMarino37): Saleh mentioned the Jets had Garrett Wilson above Drake London on their board. Is that legit or is he just saying that to excite fans?

I don’t think Robert Saleh is kidding. My understanding is that Wilson was the No. 1 receiver on the Jets’ board, and a big reason why, as I see it, is he has the sort of complete skill set that gives the ceiling to become a true No. 1 receiver. The Jets already have complementary pieces at the position, in Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios, and this year’s 10th pick has a chance to grow into the type of threat that’ll open things up for them.

If you want to get excited, here are three comps for Wilson I’ve heard over the last few years: DeAndre Hopkins, Stefon Diggs, CeeDee Lamb. All of those guys are averaged-sized receivers with go-go gadget arms who play much bigger than they are, and can attack the defense on all three levels. To me, that’s who Wilson is, too.

Douglas also said Wilson was their number 1 WR and Schrager, who is the one national guy who seems to be semi-plugged in to what the Jets are doing, had Wilson to the Jets at 10 for weeks
