AlexVanDyke
Why was he not in camp or the roster to start last season when he probably would have been very useful. Did we ever get an answer to that?
K Clue
He was on the Eagles last off-season and the Jets traded for him in October of last season when Wilson went down with a knee injury.

He was on the Eagles because the jets did not offer him a contract then we had to trade to get him. A big fail by Douglas. I think it went down like this, douglas wanted him back, saleh and his guys said don't need a vet then once we had the injury the jets panicked. Flacco is awful and should not be on this team at all. 7

He’s the 3rd string qb, a veteran willing to teach, a super bowl winner, and dirt cheap… 7

Philly then went and traded for Gardner Minshew, who immediately won the #2 job. Douglas and his old boss Howie Roseman had had conversations about a Flacco trade, and when the Patriots finally put Zach out of his misery for a few weeks, Douglas threw Philly a pick 5

It was absolutely a catastrophic mistake to not have a veteran QB on the roster to mentor Zach Wilson. Say what you want about him, but he was still a 23 year old kid from the suburbs of Utah. Everyone pounded on the Jets for going through the summer without a safety net guy. Hughes reported recently that Douglas tried to get a veteran (Hoyer, iirc) to sign here in that role, but nobody wanted to do it.

Zach called him dad in a tweet when he re-signed, they must have somewhat of a relationship. But sure, I haven’t physically seen him mentor zach…

They had to go out and pay a premium in-season to bring John Beck in to be his binkie.

How much more veteran can you get? 6

Lol I’m well aware of what happened. Just of curiosity who would you have wanted over Flacco? I agree trading for Flacco was silly, they should have just resigned him last offseason. Flacco imo was better than any of the FA’s available and the cost to get him back wasn’t that high. It was only what a 6th round pick, right? He brought the Vet presence JD wanted and also, was a proven super bowl winning QB when he was in his prime. So, for Zach that’s an ideal situation, getting to pick the brain of a former super bowl mvp.
J_Smith
I really do think Knapp was going to have a major role, so they didn’t prioritize veteran qb

Warfish
I just hope we have a better #2 when games start to matter, because Joe "2-11 the last three years" Flacco just isn't a reliable backup QB at the NFL level anymore.
