So can any great players be a Jet if they wanted?  Even if they stole the teams money for two years - or won a Super Bowls with rivals.  Where's the line?

What if he was here for only two years? Great Jet?

What if the last four years he was here he played Ole' rather than trying to tackle - instead of the two years he did it.

The man sh*t on this franchise - and people want to glorify for it.

You choose to want to glorify him - I say good for you.  But please do NOT tell me to grow up because I don't agree with you.

He was a top 5 player in our franchise's history. That's how I judge it. You can scrutinize or obsess over every detail like a scorned girlfriend, but the facts are, he was elite and a great Jet. Everything else is just childish bullsh*t. Grow up.

Yes he was. For the level of talent though I felt he could have been much more. He certainly made enough money where I’m sure that doesn’t matter all that much to him.

Maybe, but that's the story for like half the great players in our franchise's history.

How does his abilities coming to an end make him a bad teammate, a  POS or a mercenary?  Because it doesn’t and even dumber, not deserved of being on the Jets Ring of Honor.
it’s not an issue with me when someone disagrees with me.  It’s your routine when youre proven to be dead wrong leading to endless posts trying to get people to change their minds

I don't  try to change anyone's mind, I just state my position, but that is besides the point.

Revis sucked in his last 2 seasons with the Jets to the point he was a detriment  to the team and then he crowed how the Jets should pay him otherwise they are disloyal. Maybe that isn't  a POS in your book, but it is in mine.

Does he deserve to be in the ring of honor. Personally I don't  think so. I don't  hate the Rangers but I sure as Hell hate the Pats. IMO he won his SB there and was a big part of it. Let him go into the Pats HOF for all I care. We had a good relationship until he went to the evil empire. Screw him. I really don't  care.

Newsflash: All players are mercenaries.

Newsflash.  Some take it to another level.  Mevi$ was the most mercenary player in Jets history. It's not even close.  I have been a fan for almost 60 years and there has never been a player more absorbed with his contract than Mevi$. He either threatened a hold out or held out every single season of his NFL career.  There are many players that have contract disputes in their careers. Players also try to get as much money as possible. The issue with Mevi$ is that he had to be the highest paid CB year after year and if he wasn't because somebody got a bigger contract after he signed his contract, he immediately became unhappy and started his renegotiation campaign.  The analogy would be Mahomes holding out this summer because Watson just became the highest paid QB.  That's not going to happen. But if Mahomes was Revi$, he'd be threatening a hold out as we speak.  It was exhausting and annoying and detrimental to the team.

Revis is the best player to ever put on this uniform.  I just don’t understand how we still have people mad at him because John Idzik decided to trade him so he could spend first rounders on Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson.

John Idzik also decided to ignore him when he was let go by Tampa, said he wanted to come back, but let him walk to NE.

Look, I get it, to a degree.  He was one of the first players in the league to exhibit the modern day thinking of “they aren’t loyal to us, so I’m here to do business” mentality, but every player is like that guys.

Best one that I've seen. Namath was before my time and I only caught the tail end of Klecko. Curtis Martin was great, but never as dominant as Revis at his prime.

I loved klecko but for all the talk that Revis wasn’t dominant enough long enough neither was Klecko.
It’s all out of disliking the player

As fans we want players to commit to the team wholeheartedly and we want the organization to commit to our fan dream that this is some crusading force of righteousness and not an incredibly profitable business. Neither is reality and in the modern cap environment it is rare that teams hold on to players for an entire career aside from maybe a QB. Revis is just a guy with a lot of talent working a job with a statistical probability of a short career. There is a practicality to that work and as much as we may not like it as fans at the end of the day this is a job for the players.

From what I recall, Revis was a FA for all of 5 minutes after KC released him. There was talk of tampering even becaise that deal got done so fast.

Mevis is only interested in getting some of this TV money that he sees a lot of other former Jets players getting. There is cheddar to be made in NY and that's why he is interested. No different than when he played here, he is about his money. He doesn't give a flying fuggg about the NY Jets.

You sign a contract for what purpose????  Fukk him.  When he sucked he didn’t offer to give money back.  He is a mercenary. 1st holdout I can see. Second???  Fukk him.

I mean, he won a SB with the enemy.  That’s gonna leave scars.

If he had been an elite corner or upper tier in his 2nd stint here I think a lot of that contract/NE stuff would have been more easily forgiven.

I mean he was 30 years old in his second stint most nfl careers are over by that point. And the Pats signed him as a free agent, nobody else (including the Jets) offered him a contract. Why be mad at that? Jets fans wanted him to stay unemployed? Lol

Most, yes.  An elite corner who “bets on himself” and supposedly keeps himself in impeccable shape?  Didn’t have to be.  Corners aren’t Running Backs.  There are plenty who have been highly effective in their early 30s.  Darrell Green, Charles Woodson, Mike Haynes, Jonathan Joseph, Brandon Carr, Jason McCourty, Terence Newman, Tramon Williams and Brent Grimes come to mind.

Since Revis never was too dependent on straight line speed, he surely could have remained an upper tier corner for 2-3 more years if he wanted to be.  Instead, teammate Antonio Cromartie was arguably more effective in his age 31 season than Revis was.  Maybe all that child support gave him extra motivation, lol.

You do realize how it works, the Jets put Revis in the ROH, not the other way around?

Any proof Revis want in on a TV career?  Mangold seems to.  Oh yeah, thats different

First let's not pretend that Mangold and Mevis are the same. There is a clear reason(s) between why one is more commonly appreciated and loved and the other has as many loved as hated.

Second, let's not pretend that backdoor channel negotiations don't exist... with both parties blathering on about how this benefits both sides.

I didn't feel the need to elaborate on the Jets motivations for putting Mevis in the ROH but it's PR related of course. I was only referring to Mevis' motivations because this thread is about Mevis.

As far as proof? Just wait, within 2 years he will have a regular spot on a network providing his insights about the Jets.

You know how this works man.

Mangold and Revis are one and the same in the discussion that both are going into the ROH only.  Either being appreciated for their personalities has nothing to do with most of what most of us not having issue with it are arguing.  That they both clearly deserve to be there, earned it with their on field play.  The rest is peoples perception.  Theres been enough nonsense written like Revis was only good a couple of years which says it all.

Putting him in the ROH isnt a PR move, the creation of the ROH was a PR move, a brag list of our best players.  Again its laughable to claim he doest deserve to be there along side of Namath etc.

Once again, Revis had nothing to do with selection this year, the Jets put him there.  So therefore claiming he somehow placed himself there for financial gain makes zero sense, you cant be arguing this.  If he get a network gig, good for him that some network wanted him.  But it will have had nothing to do with going into a stupid ROH in a stadium that 3/4 of the country doesnt know exists.

So what, lol? Teams f*ck players over all the time.  Had he had gotten severely hurt during his prime, he would have been cut, traded, etc. the very second it became financially beneficial for the Jets to do so.  This “BUT HE SIGNED A CONTRAAAAAAACT” complaint is nonsense and always has been nonsense.

Players don’t actually have undying loyalty to their teams. Just like teams don’t have loyalty to their players.

A contract means nothing????   Only a millennials would say that after their polishing 5th place trophies.

Lease a car and try to void the contract.  Yeah, I know that's different.  Lease some office space.

He’s not questioning the validity of contracts as a whole.  He’s suggesting that teams get out from under large chunks of those contracts all the time (due to those contract not being fully guaranteed), while players demand extensions constantly.  Thus making contracts in the NFL somewhat meaningless, especially compared to full guaranteed deals like the MLB.

Very few non-rookie deal contracts make it to the end of the deal these days.

Given the way some NFL teams treat players on contracts, I would say that an NFL contract is meaningless to both parties if it benefits them in anyway to “break” said contract.

No...  NFL contracts are such that IN THE CONTRACT it is written that if the player is cut, his pay is changed or eliminated in accordance with the contract.  That's why they want most upfront.

Find me an instance (cant think of one, sure one exists) where a team "renegged" on a contract?  They pay players all the time when the money is guaranteed and the y get traded and or cut.

I am NO fan of these Bozo owners  and I supported Revis on holdout 1. But twice??? Fukk him.

How is the bold all that much different from what I said?  Players get cut so that large amounts of non-guaranteed money gets voided.  You affirmed my point.

And I never said nor implied that they "renegged" either.

"Meaningless" isn't the right word to describe NFL contracts, but they certainly do provide owners with a lot of flexibility and leaves top tier players with the only recourse of holding out for an extension and raise.

Revis decided not to play into the owners' game, instead betting on himself with short but expensive deals, and you hate him for it.  Yet I'm sure you've praised entrepreneurs you play golf with for "beating the system", no?

And I say all this as someone who, in this very thread and in others, has been critical of Revis for other reasons.
