Browns franchise going forward

Recommended Posts

So this is all based on the theory that the Browns will now void Watson's contract and eat all those draft picks they traded because there are 24 accusers instead of 22? LMAO. #news-in-2022

Given what they gave up for Watson, there is a zero percent chance they let Watson just walk. Florio was just spewing stupid speculation with zero sources to indicate that the Browns are even thinking about doing this.

The reality is that nothing that has come out since the trade/signing is different than what came out before so while there may be a technicality that would allow the Browns to void the contract there is no chance they actually do that and let all those draft picks go to waste because there are now 24 accusers instead of 22.

There’s rumors he could be suspended for 2 years!

I think you are on the wrong trail here.

The issue could be that as more issues continue to arise, it will be harder and harder to be swept under the rug the way the Brown hoped when they threw a truckload of money at him after doing essentially zero diligence.  So let's assume the NFL eventually commits to a suspension of anywhere from 6 weeks to one season.  But as more keeps coming out, the Browns are going to face increasing pressure to not put a man on the field as the face of the organization that carries the perception of being, shall we say, hostile to women.

It doesn't really matter what the reality is, or if there are criminal charges.  Watson *might* become so toxic that the Browns have to pursue the same path that the Texans did last season.  The worst part for them is that if they are compelled to not play him, without the benefit of a league suspension, they are going to eat every dollar of that guaranteed money.

Now Haslem and the Browns seem pretty set on playing Watson based on their actions so far.  But who knows where this thing ends up.  I'd say it's unlikely, but possible, that they can't play him in 2023 no matter what happens with the league.  In that case, this will go down as the most screwed up signing in sports history and will effectively kill at team that was pretty loaded to compete otherwise.

Certainly makes for some good drama as long as it's in another city.

They should consider bringing in Kaepernick. That way they’ll have experience dealing with QBs who’ve been away from the game for a number of years when Watson gets back.

I'd say odds are still low on that, but just for fun, this is what the contract would look like.

Browns guaranteed him $230M for 5 years.

If he is suspended for '22 and '23, they will save $47M in combined salary.  So they will then, effectively be paying Watson $183M for 3 years.

In other words, $61M/season for a QB who will have not thrown a competitive pass in 3 seasons.

I predict the Cleveland owner will be forced to sell the team before this is all over.  He can't skate from the contract.  If Watson goes down the Browns owner is going down with him.

Imagine giving up 3 1st rd picks and $260m in guaranteed money for this guy who might not ever even play for them? I almost feel bad for Browns fans right now. The Texans front office must be doing cartwheels everyday on their way into work

Let me get that week 2 W

I was responding to this sentiment that a CLE team without Watson (and Baker) is some kind of easy out Week 2

Jacoby Brissett is a decent QB and can find Amari Cooper. They have Chubb and Hunt and 2 All Pro Guards against a porous NYJ run defense

I’d have you quote where that came up previously in this thread, but I could only find your post.

Houston also might have the best young QB in the division.   Mills balled at the end of last year.

Watson and the Browns are a disgrace to the NFL and the integrity of the sport.

This stupid commish has the moral obligation to hand down the most swift punishment to this filthy pig. Anything less than a year suspension would be a disgrace.

Objectively speaking, if you have had over 66 different women massaging you in less than 17 months, that is nothing less than a sociopathic behavior.

So we are going to sit here and say that 1/3 plus of the women claiming sexual abuse are lying. You can't make this sh*t up!

Do the right thing commish, and hand down the proper punishment to this sociopath, narcissistic piece of sh*t.

Don't forget Houston.  They provided him NDA's and hotel rooms.  Don't forget the owner of the Browns, he rewarded him.

The Commish has a lot to unpack.

Bruh, you are really behind on this story if that's your hot take. It gets worse with each passing day. Even Watson's lawyers weren't aware of these new accusers/allegations. And now the Texans helped facilitate some of it with hotel rooms and NDAs? Geeeeeezus.

The Browns could give the middle finger to public opinion and just play him. But with each passing day, that is looking like a pipe dream.

You are right, it is normal to have 66 different women massaging you in 17 months. It is absolutely normal especially when 1/3 are accusing you of sexual misconduct.  Nothing but pure coincidence!

So, when threads get locked we can just start them again with different words, cool.

I started this thread talking about the Browns franchise and where they stand going forward. Not trying to get into specifics of whats going on with the DW case. But if you’re so offended by this topic then by all means don’t post or read the thread

The hot take is that the Browns, who just gave up 3 1st round picks for a player with 22 sexual harassments allegations will suddenly move on from that player because there are now 24.

It's rather comical that people actually think this will change the Browns position unless they can somehow get those picks back. Of course the NFL could just ban him from the NFL for life, but the Browns aren't going to screw their own franchise by punishing their best player.  But keep dreaming.

He might be suspended for a year, 2 years? Could be banned from football. Could face jail time. Browns not punish him but he could be facing some external consequences.
