JustEndTheSuffering
Saving up to voluntarily buy yourself or other people something nice is a fine and normal thing to do. Being an NFL vet millionaire and making a rookie pay a ridiculously expensive bill makes you an ass. Like others have said, let these kids learn to be smart with their money and if they have to spend it make it be for a good cause. Dinner for a bunch of guys who have no problem getting good food is a waste.
#27TheDominator
It's hazing. I am an old-timer and fine with some hazing, but it is ridiculous to blow $50k on a wasteful dinner when these guys are all pretending to do charitable work and have foundations. You want to make the kid play bitch? Make him cook for you or work at a soup kitchen. Don't throw money away just to be "ballin'." 3

What happened to the days of rookies carrying pads for vets or duct taping them to the pylons for a spray down? Even frat boys give the pledges the 8 bucks for the 4am cig run.

Buy them dinner and get them hammered. That’s how it should go.
#27TheDominator
The last round I was involved in the "rookies" were dressed like Hooters waitresses and forced to serve everyone on the bus on the first road trip. Complete with announcements with a jock instead of oxygen mask. Then there was some good natured beating and a rousing chorus of "uno di noi" (one of us). Everyone was fine with it until practice on Wednesday when one kid was changing and he had welts all over his back. When asked what happened he explained that it happened on the bus. Apparently when being jokingly whipped with the belt he was getting the buckle and didn't want to complain. Man did everybody feel bad. That kid didn't pay for a drink or coffee the rest of the season.
