Popular Post BCJet
We had a great draft overall and Im thrilled to add Sauce, GW, etc to the team but I am so psyched we drafted Rukert. I get that guys like Kyle Pitts have good numbers but Pitts, to me, is a WR, he isnt a TE. The reason Kittle is so great is that he is a devastating blocker who can also be a receiving threat, and that is who Ruckert is. JD is really aligned with LaFleur and how important TE is to this offense. CJ is more of a receiving threat and just a serviceable blocker but Conklin is an excellent pass blocker who is going to really allow us to run play action and keep Zach clean to hit some plays down the field to GW and Moore. If you want to see how good Ruckert is going to be in this offense, watch the extended clip with LaFleur breaking down his film. These TEs with Breece Hall and a very good OL are going to be one of the best rushing offenses in the league and its really going to allow Zach to develop. 15

Rhg1084
How much playing time is this kid gonna get? I kind of see him buried on the depth chart as the #3 TE. Hopefully he can develop into the #1 eventually

AFJF
Was just saying to somebody that one of the more intriguing things to me this season is where Ruckert finishes the season on the depth chart. Does he leapfrog either of the two guys in front of him? Wouldn't be shocked if he did.

Hopefully he can develop into the #1 eventually Not a ton as a rookie which is fine. Player development is something we havent seen here in 10 years and being around 2 true "Pros" in conklin and CJ is great for him. If he plays 15-20 snaps per game and finishes the year with 25 catches I think that is fine for his development, and in 2023 he will likely work his way into a 33% share with the other 2 guys and with him taking over as a the starter in 2024. JD said it in the Flight 2022 series - "today's luxury pick is tomorrow's necessity" that he learned from Ozzie. If we lose one of CJ or Conklin, we now have someone who can likely be ready for 25+ snaps to keep the remaining "starter" fresh. Great depth in the TE room for the first time ever. 4

NYDreamer
We should also wait and see what happens with Kenny Yebowa and his #88, Ruckart might want that back as far as Jersey number.

I think Yeboah might getting overlooked by some here. He looked real good in limited action toward the end of the season. I can see him being CJs eventual replacement and Ruckert, being more the inline blocker, backing up (and eventually replacing) Conklin. Any way you look at it, our TE room has been improved dramatically. For the record I was in favor of Ruckert over McBride. Many of my mocks had us taking him in the 3 or 4th. Imagine my excitement with JD made it a reality!

The San Francisco 49ers, who the Jets seem to mirror in certain ways, have used the 2 tight end look to dominate their conference in years past. I would say that the 2-tight end set is a 3-4 beater, in that it can be used to neutralize the pass rush. If this is the case with the Jets, then Ruckert should get plenty of playing time. Why would the Jets go out and get 2 tight ends in free agency, then use their 4th round pick to pick up a 3rd tight end, unless they planned to do exactly what I'm talking about? I’ve been saying the same thing for awhile now. Lots of 12/21 personnel, with the second TE lined up on the line or at H-back or FB. They will run rushes and passes from the same formations, with RPOs and/or play action. The obvious goal is to make the offense as friendly for Zach as humanly possible. Extra blockers and big, short to medium range receivers. This is also why I’ve been saying that I’m not sure that they’ll carry more than five WRs this year. They’re very solid 1-4, with either Jeff Smith or Mims at #5. Four TEs and four RBs seems likely. Also interested to see what the playbook looks like this year. Last year, the Jets had (I believe) the fewest TE targets in the league. That’s definitely changing. I know they’re very high on Ruckert, and they won’t be afraid to play him as long as he’s ready. Thing is, TE generally has one of the longest development times in football, often being coached by the receivers and OL coaches as well as a TE coach.

He can actually earn his playing time without being put on the field because all the other choices were worse. There's a lot to be said for earning your playing time. There's a lot to be said for the team (and fans) not being exposed to losses due to any players learning curve. Saleh said Gardner had to earn his playing time. We know that isn't really true. But it is for Ruckert and that just great.

jgb
What a story. Imagine if he becomes what we’ve been looking for in the position even longer than searching for a QB.
