Will it be Elijah or Garrett Wilson who has more success?

Recommended Posts

I think expecting Wilson to do as well as Elijah is unfair. Rookies typically do not fair well the first year. I do not care about Chase. He is most likely an anomaly for his first year.

I believe the real interesting comparison will be between Wilson and Olave. Tough to do with different QBs but I had Olave rated higher after seeing a lot of Ohio State games last year.

Don't care who the "alpha" is.

Wilson+Moore+Ruckert is talented enough to be our Walker-Toon-Shuler.

They can ALL be "alphas" in my book.

The real question is Zach and his wonky accuracy and decision making.  Not the talent around him.

Who will have more success?  I think they're both going to be very good.

I'm not sure either will be a top 10 guy, but they will compliment each other well and have the ability to tear up a defense.

Btw, I think "Which one will go WR diva crazy?" is the more important question.

This year, neither will be an alpha. I actually think Corey Davis will lead the team in receiving yards this year.

Long term, I think Wilson will be a number 1 WR and Moore a top number 2.

If Davis stays healthy he will easily have over 1,000 yards and 8 tds.  He is Zach's favorite receiver to through to.

I’m also bullish on Davis this year. I was bearish last year when fan expectations were entirely overheated. Davis was an upside surprise for me last year, while a disappointment to most others.

But now expectations are far too low. Davis is a player — just not the alpha 1 many hoped this time last year.

Buy low, sell high.

Yup. I think he is the receiver most likely to go over 1,000 yards. Like you said, he is Zach favorite target.

There’s a chance Zach spreads the ball though and we get a few guys between 500-1000. But, even then, I still think Davis leads in receiving yards.

I'm gonna go Moore this year if he stays healthy.

I think the talent / abilities gap is close enough that the year 2 jump and 2nd year of chemistry with Zach favor moore..

Plus after CD went down and before moore went down,  moore was making stuff happen.

Davis was his favorite the first few weeks. I don’t think that’s going to be the same this season. Moore and Berrios created chemistry with Zach while Davis was hurt.

id be happily surprised if Davis can thrive as the 3rd option in the offense. The guy just never had/had the ability to be the “guy”. Always kills you with an untimely drop/tip that kills a drive or causes an INT.

I’m hoping that Zach isn’t locked into anyone in particular and learns/figures Out the system.

if he needs a guy to win 1 on 1 in crunch time I think it’s going to be Moore or Berrios early and Wilson may create that   So that near mid season Zach can go to the “hot hand”

Hopefully Zach throws for over 4,000 yards, so there would be plenty of receiving yards to go around.

With the yardage on the ground already being predicted in these parts, tacking on 4,000+ from Wilson might just put us in the running for one of the greatest offenses in NFL history.

I’ve already put in for a week of vacation after the super bowl to celebrate. Premature?

Out of curiosity, I wasn't sure which the # 1 yardage offense of all-time was.  I figured it would have come from one of the last few seasons, but you actually have to go back to the 2011 Saints:  7,474 yards.  Holy hell.

Check out the stable of backs on that '11 Saints squad:

  • Darren Sproles:  87 attempts, 603 yards (6.9 ypc), 710 receiving yards, 9 total TDs
  • Pierre Thomas:  110 attempts, 562 yards (5.1 ypc), 425 receiving yards, 6 total TDs
  • Mark Ingram:  122 attempts, 474 yards (3.9 ypc), 46 receiving yards, 5 total TDs
  • Chris Ivory:  79 attempts, 374 yards (4.7 ypc), 1 TD

1,313 yards accounted for by Sproles alone.  He averaged 7.5 yards per touch that year.

Meanwhile you had Jimmy Graham (1,310 yards, 11 TDs), Marques Colston (1,143 yards, 8 TDs,), Lance Moore (627 yards, 8 TDs), Robert Meachem (620 yards, 6 TDs) and Devery Henderson (503 yards, 2 TDs) via the air.  Everybody got fed in that offense.

Next offenses on the list:

  • 2) 2013 Broncos:  7,317
  • 3) 2000 Rams:  7.075
  • 4) 2021 Cowboys:  6,919
  • 5) 2019 Cowboys:  6,904
  • 6) 2021 Buccaneers:  6,901
  • 7) 2011 Patriots:  6,848
  • 8 ) 2016 Saints:  6,816
  • 9) 2018 Chiefs:  6,810
  • 10) 1998 Vikings:  6,800
  • 11) 2021 Chiefs:  6,746
  • 12) 2018 Rams:  6,738
  • 13) 2004 Chiefs:  6,695
  • 14) 2001 Rams:  6,690
  • 15) 2013 Eagles:  6,676
  • 16) 2021 Chargers:  6,634
  • 17) 2016 Falcons/2020 Chiefs:  6,653
  • 19) 2018 Buccaneers:  6,648
  • 20) 2014 Saints:  6,582
  • 21) 2007 Patriots:  6,580
  • 22) 2014 Steelers:  6,577

Looks like having a HOF-caliber QB is pretty damn important.

By a very quick look the commonality i see is 100% of these teams was led by a QB that is in the HOF of well on his way with the one exception of 1998 Vikes.

Also the 2018 Rams (Goff), 2013 Eagles (Vick), 2004 Chiefs (Trent Green) and 2000 Broncos (Brian Griese).  Still not great odds.

Yeah I edited after looking closer. Eagles under Vick also. Still like 80% of the best offenses ever HOF QB is the commonality.

Yup.

And Trent Green, though not a HOFer, was still a very good QB.  2x Pro Bowler with three 4,000+ yard seasons.

Oh and don't forget about the 2018 Buccaneers - Jameis Winston.  One of the most generous QB's of all-time, especially in that '18 season.  Whether it was a WR or DB, someone was going to catch his passes that year.

Winston has been a fantasy football cheat code for years. King of garbage time points and INT are only -2 and TDs +6.

You lost me here. “Unfair?” There is no crying in football.

It is unfair to expect a rookie coming n to a new system to have a lot of success.  Even KJ had 63 receptions for 844 yards his first year.  Wilson has yet to prove he is anywhere near as good at this point.  Like I also said, I am not even sure he is as good as his teammate was at Ohio St and I was either at, or saw, six of their games.

If you think this is crying then so be it.

With the Jets perennial problem with injuries (ranked at or near the top ..or at least in the top 10 of teams most impacted by injuries.. “every year”).. the difference will come down to ..who stays on the field.

Impossible to argue against this.

Sorry I was flippantly paraphrasing a movie not insinuating you were crying.
