It seems it’s not only fans who are frustrated with the former first-round pick

More Mekhi Becton news came out yesterday. Once again, it muddies the waters on the behemoth tackle’s status on the New York Jets.

ESPN insider Dan Graziano joined Mike ‘Greeny’ Greenberg yesterday. He reported that there is “frustration” among the Jets coaching staff with Becton and they would “like to see him not be overweight.”

Graziano added that he does not know whether a guy can get himself back in shape between now and training camp to make the coaches happy with him, but he added that Becton “has the support of the front office that drafted him.”

The final point Graziano made is one that many Jets fans have espoused for the last few months: the NFL is a “production business,” and if Becton does not play to the level of one of their starting five, the team “will have a tough decision to make.”

Although head coach Robert Saleh has refrained from making his feelings about Becton known publicly, the suspicion that he was displeased with the offensive tackle came from what he did not say. Graziano’s report confirms those suspicions.

Some of the team’s frustration with Becton stems back to before his injury in Week 1 last season. The team was not happy that Carl Lawson smoked Becton in training camp last season, prompting offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur to comment that Becton was “not playing at his best.”

The Mekhi Becton narrative is getting tiresome for many. Jets fans want to see Becton put in the work to obliterate the ‘Big Bust’ moniker.

So iow's, nobody on the Jets has said anything about Becton, rather it is that they are not talking about him, so I had to file a story and just made this up

The opening of training camp will be interesting. Will Jets even let him on the field if he is still 390 plus?? What if he cannot pass the conditioning test??

Oh man!! The conditioning test is a great question.

Edit, hopefully he has contact language that allows us to recover that cap hit if he does fail.

I doubt they are asking him to lose that much weight.  Maybe 15 or 20 and we don't  even know if they are unhappy. This is just Greenberg taking a guess.

He can’t play if he’s over 360

All we keep hearing from Joe Douglas and Coach Saleh is they want a roster full of players THAT LOVE BALL.  While Becton may have talent, he certainly doesn't come across as someone who eats, drinks, and sleeps football.  All the talent and potential in the world wont matter if he doesnt love football.     I just dont  think the player loves it.......but i am rooting for the kid to prove me and everyone wrong.

A man that heavy can easily lose a half a pound to a full pound a day just by eliminating sugars, carbs, and having some semblance of portion control.

Its pure sloth that put him in this state and can be fixed with a little will power.

get living or keep dying we all have a little Becton in us.

I don't know that he has that kind of will power. Or if he even wants to.

For 10k I’d lose 30 pounds in 2 months - no problem.  At his age it’s not a challenge and he’s got 10s of millions on the line.

His Twitter name and attitude makes me think he’s in denial though.  He thinks the massive 400 pound guy duces he’s dropping don’t stink.

Yep. And it will be nice to have the situation figured out, one way or the other.

I’m,curious, minicamp ended weeks ago and camp doesn’t start for 2.5 weeks.  How does anyone believe that someone got a new scoop?  As opposed to just plagiarizing an article we all saw a month ago

This is such a frustrating story to read as a fan, kid has all the talent in the world, all the help that anyone could ever ask for and yet still cant get it together.

Can anyone on this board imagine being 23 (age being important due to metabolism when you are young), having millions of dollars at your disposal to have the an elite nutritionist and chef at your disposal along with having the best coaches money can buy and lastly HAVE NO OTHER JOB and you cant keep your weight under control.

Becton has the means to live a life where every time he opens his fridge he takes out freshly caught salmon or tuna, have steak salads pre-made, multiple meals of chicken and whole grains all while working out every day with Duke and he cant say under FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS?

Its an embarassment and will set our offense back if he isnt ready to play.  I hope JD raises his offer to Reiff as insurance at RT.
