section314
1) there's intense, and then there's Max Scherzer. 2) Buster Olney needs to get a grip... actually said that whoever trades for Soto is " getting Willie Mays or Hank Aaron." Help.

Help. Sports writers love to call people "the best ever". The only player in MLB who can even touch these numbers was Mike Trout before he started breaking down. Plus Willie is one of the top defensive center fielders of all time.
chirorob
As for Hank, leading the league in hits, batting average, doubles. People forget how complete a ball player he was because he was the HR king, but he did it all from the offensive side.
section314
You are so right. When I hear stuff like that I don’t know whether to get upset or just plain feel sorry for somebody that says something that ridiculous. And shame on Cone and Perez for not calling him out on it.

Yes, the numbers you posted are mind boggling and those greats would be equally great today… maybe even post greater numbers with the dilution of talent. There are some modern-day players who I would love to have seen Mano-a-Mano. Mariano vs. Mays bottom of 9th. Koufax vs. Trout Seaver vs. DiMaggio. Pedro vs. Ruth. Aaron vs. Clemens On 7/28/2022 at 11:01 AM, section314 said: You are so right. The best in their era would be among the best now. To call someone like Soto among the best of all time is just silly talk.
