Didn't see enough of Campbell.  If I did I'm guessing I'd have him in there.

I think Emmitt really benefited from that Dallas line and the offense.  He was excellent.  But we're not just talking about excellent, we're saying Top 5 all time.  I think both Faulk and Peterson were better.  Imagining Peterson in that Dallas offense back then would be insane.

I appreciate Sayers from a historical perspective as well, despite his silly one-bar helmet, but my hands are tied on this one.  lol.

Noble effort.

I think using AV as a base is well intentioned.  However, there are flaws.  Any metric that places players like Tiki Barber in the Top 10 are flawed. Anytime a list uses a metric and the first words for a player are, "WTF is his name even on the list".  It might be time to adjust the criteria.

Not to beat the dead horse again, but I understand delimiting the Top 10 list if it was a list of receivers and you are comparing a fringe Top 10 WR to guy like Edelman.   One has a crap ton of yards and TDs and then there is Edelman.  I do not think separating Jim Brown from the list makes sense.

I was lucky enough to see him when I was very young.  Saw a lot of those great NFL films on him back in the day.  He was brilliant with the ball in his hands.  Maybe the best I've ever seen.   Everyone who saw him play knew he was something very special.

the rankings are a trainwreck

It's an attempt at a football conversation.  It's very flawed but we can still have some great conversation around this thread.

Jim Brown shouldn't be on the greatest running back list.  He was the greatest lacrosse player in NCAA history.

I HAVE NOT SLEPT ONE MOMENT SINCE THIS LIST HAS COME OUT.  I'VE CHOKED MY TODDLER SON TWICE WHILE EXPLAINING TO HIM THAT JIM BROWN IS THE BEST RUNNING BACK OF ALL TIME.  HOW DARE YOU JF80.  HOW DARE YOU.

Its a damn travesty

leave it to 80 to **** up a greatest of all time list

Seriously man....it's time to kill this thread and restart it properly.  You only need about a dozen names on the list.

Brown, Campbell, Simpson, Payton, Sanders, Peterson, Smith, Faulk, Martin, Dickerson, Sayers, and Allen.  Anyone else you add (cough - Barber - cough) is just a waste of digital space.  From that list, we can have a meaningful conversation about who the 5 best were (pro tip, it's the first 5 on that list).

Or we can stubbornly keep on arguing over how flawed the poll is and getting nowhere.

Top 5 from the, I'm not 80 yrs old, POV -  Adrian Peterson, Ladanian Tomlinson, Lesean McCoy, Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles.

Kinda weak...A.P. ALL DAY

Lol, no VERY WEAK.   Regardless of your age, you still have eyes right?  You have never seen film of OJ Simpson, Walter Payton or Jim Brown?    Maybe Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson or Marcus Allen?  WTF Lesean McCoy and Jamaal Charles????  Lol they were nice players but all time greats??  I seriously think not.  I am not 80 years old either btw.

Earl Campbell was Marshawn Lynch before Marshawn Lynch.   OJ was every bit as good if not better than AP and LT.  Marshall Faulk was better than Lesean McCoy.   Sweetness was a class by himself and Jim Brown was better than all of them.

Alright, settle down. I just said my top 5, not all time. I changed the rules. Just from what i've watched. I'm sure they were all very good.

No they were not very good, THEY WERE GREAT.  There is a difference.  With all due respect, do yourself a favor, go to youtube and watch some film of these all time great players.  It might change your perspective on greatness versus merely very good.

I’m with you. I think we’re probably the same age, and I also only go with what I’ve watched on these types of historical polls. Mine is ADP, LDT, Lynch, Charles, Henry. Lesean was probably the most fun to watch though - dude was a real life madden rb.
