What's Next

Over the coming days, GM Joe Douglas and his staff will have the flexibility to continue to shape the roster, moving players to injured reserve, adding players who were let go from around the league and executing trades in addition to filling a 16-person practice squad.

Waiver Claims
The Jets hold the fourth slot in the waiver-wire priority and will hold that spot until after Week 3 of the regular season. At that point, the priority will match the NFL standings instead of the 2022 draft order. The end of the claim period is Wednesday at 12PM EST. After that, teams can sign players to their practice squad.

Cager could ideally develop into former OSU/Raider TE Rickey Dudley with his height, speed/quickness for a TE vs. LBs, and running WR-crisp routes as opposed to the classic lumbering TE

Waived means they want them back to stash on PS, If they clear -no other team wants to add that player to their roster and inherit contract - Jets can reclaim them. 

Release means a vested veteran who is simply cut and can choose to sign with any other team of her choosing. good riddance

Waived players aren’t vested and put through the waiver process of being claimed by other team(s). If unclaimed they are free agents.  At this time of the yr if they are unclaimed they are free to sign with any teams practice squad.

Released are veterans. Immediately free to sign with any team.

Guys who've been in the league a certain time - vested veterans - get released and can sign wherever they want straight away. Guys who are waived can get claimed by another team (with no real say in the matter) and only if they are not claimed can they then sign elsewhere (or sign to a PS) by choice.

Guys who are released occasionally have a handshake agreement that they'll be resigned by their original team at some point so don't sign elsewhere. Waived players have to clear waivers unclaimed to be signed back to your practice squad.
