Right  . . . and?

I just don't think much can be gleamed about a roster from the bottom of the barrel.

The Jets could certainly have no idea what they are doing (this would be consistent with history!), but having 7 players claimed off waivers isn't really evidence of that.

It’s not bottom of the barrel. These guys play on Sunday. The players claimed go on the 53, not the PS

are the jets better talent evaluators than the entire NFL ?

Bottom of the barrel as in the bottom of their roster. We'll see how many of these guys actually turn into anything worthwhile.

And, to be honest, the question "are the jets better talent evaluators than the entire NFL" is a bit absurd in this context. For one thing, it's not "the entire NFL" - it was 7 players, not 32. Secondly, these players are claimed by specific teams for specific reasons, including positional need.

Never forget that the reason all these ex-Jets got claimed is because they have ACTUAL LIVE NFL REGULAR SEASON GAME TAPE.  Not practice or scouting or college or whatever.  Most of the people that got waived are out there with nothing, all the guys the Jets dumped played roles here because we didn't have anything better, so, it's really easy for other teams to just grab one of these guys with pretty extensive NFL Game tape to work with instead of just grabbing a total unknown off the scrap heap and trying again.  That's why the Jet's lost all those guys.  They were guys we had been playing because we had to and now we don't need to, hopefully.  Potentially.  Maybe?

Not to get into a whole thing here, but Im not sure I agree with you here.

Last year the Jets drafted Echols, Pinnock and Carter II as far as secondary players (Sherwood and Nas were LBs). None were elite talents. Echols and Carter II showed promise and are still very much part of the plan. Pinnock was cut as he did not work out at CB or S. That just happens. The Jets needed better talent at CB and they got it by signing Reed and drafting Sauce. By doing that you can argue they are on track to go from one of the youngest and worst secondaries to one of the youngest and best secondaries in the NFL. Who exactly (other than Pinnock) got cut that you are so worried about? Who exactly would we have drafted instead at OL in the bottom of Rd. 5 (in hindsight) that would have been so critical to our depth?

Seems like an odd argument.

It's not an argument, just an observation.  I'm happy how JD has handled the offseason.  But whether Saleh genuinely thought he'd be okay with a young, inexperienced secondary last year or not, it would have been nice to not have to witness the worst defense in Jets' history last season.  So it either falls on JD who didn't address it or Saleh who told JD it didn't need addressing.

All of last year we heard that the secondary was "secondary" according to Saleh.  It didn't matter that much, as long as CBs could win on 3rd down, according to Saleh.  Well obviously the secondary does matter a lot and JD invested heavily in it this offseason.  Either Saleh was bluffing or he learned from last year.
